Title: intro day 1
Post by: giantsfanva on July 03, 2014, 08:35:00 AM
new member here. 3 liters of water since 6am, Smokey Mountain Wintergreen in place of the dip, also hit a 3 mile run. Feeling great

Been dipping on and off since 87/88. Had several multi year breaks but somehow always wound up back, typically triggered by round of golf where I had "just one dip"

Mom died last year of lung cancer, 30 year smoker, I was pissed at the dumb choices she made, and here I was making the same dumb choices. I lost a ton of weight this past year, got in the best shape of my life, however I was still doing something daily that could kill me. Turning point for me was when my 7 year old asked me 2 weeks ago "is that stuff bad for you??" Decided that day I was quitting, ordered my smokey mountain and just posted roll this AM.

Great job brother. The next couple days will most likely be very hard. Hunker down and get through it. We all did it. Post roll every morning, make some friends, work the quit system, and you will succeed.

I quit with you today. Holler if you need anything.

Read everything on KTC. Welcome center, intros, HOF, cancer stories, wow, everything... Post roll every day, and get involved. The more accountability you build the better off you will be. The KTC plan works! Learn the plan, live the plan.
PM me if you need a # or have questions.

Already love the attitude. Get some digits from your October brothers, lots of Day 2's and 3's right now, and stay close to KTC. I quit with you today.

Welcome to KTC, you appear to have your mind made up to quit for you, keep that goal let the 7yo or anyone else just enjoy the time but keep quitting for you. If I may add a couple of things that in my opinion can make or break your quit (all items below with underlined words are links to different areas on KTC or referenced, all safe)

1. Your spouse/girlfriend, her support is critical and she deserves to understand more what you are going through, so see the following link and hell print it or e-mail it to her to read Spousal Support (http://www.killthecan.org/community/spousal-support/)

2. Read this for yourself to make sure you fully know what to expect What to expect when you quit (http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/what-to-expect-when-you-quit-dipping/); some days are better then others, then eventually all days are better

3. Read the stories on here at KTC, the Kern story is a tear jerker and though you want to be around for your kids this will reinforce it dramatically, Kern's Story (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1008859/1/); then there are these words spoken by a man who lost his brother to this stupid shit Sean Marsee (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1009362/1/#new), damn I wish he would have talked at my middle school.

4. Find an alternative and keep it on you at all times. There will be times when going to the Convenience Store and getting a soda or anything else can cause one lapse in judgement and lead to a huge mistake. Don't be that guy, be the guy with Testicular Fortitude.

5. Find a couple of other quitters and exchange numbers with them, if you need another please PM me and let's do this.

6. Remember that you are an addict, 100 days is a milestone not a goal; the goal is a lifetime being free from the nic bitch. Get pissed off at big tobacco and the dangers they put you in.

7. Remember that you are the one who caused you to be an addict, so don't let anger get outside of your control. It is no one else's fault that you got here. Your family will only support you if you are not an asshole.

That is one great fucking choice!!! Congrats!

Post roll, keep your word, read and repeat. Quitting is a privilege reserved to those who are bad-ass enough to do it. YOU ARE. Congrats!!!

Day 1 almost in the books, did almost 3/4 can of smokey mountain wintergreen which is surprisingly good!!!!

My kids and wife are out of town, thank the lord, I am one irritable mother f er right now!

Probably going to try and get to sleep early so I am not awake during my old normal "last dip" time.

giantsfan....

Welcome to KTC...this is one serious quitting community if you haven't already figured it out. You need to stick close to this site, especially for the first couple of weeks, because if you're human and have dipped for any length of time, your life is about to SUCK in ways you never before imagined....learn from the info on these pages how to deal with the SUCK, why it SUCKS, and what your body and your mind is going through as you physically, then (much later) mentally, withdraw.

Post roll (October group) EVERY DAMN DAY...EARLY in the day...that takes the option to use nicotine off the table (assuming you have integrity and honor)....next, build a community of quit brothers...get their numbers (I'd start with Jeeptruck...that man has this whole quit thing figured out, especially since it damn near KILLED him)...bind your quit to theirs.

It is NOT easy...but then again, those things that are worth having (I'd count a CLEAN life in that number), very seldom come easy.

Quit on brother....quit on. PM me if you need help doing the whole roll posting thing, which can seem a little assed up at first.

Nice work. Read the hell out of the Ktc forums. You need to earn you first degree quit belt while the wife and kids are gone. Quiz on Monday. Quit on quitter.

I am on day 3, overall my urges etc are all manageable. Eating more than I would like, need to get that shit under control. Past 2 nights my sleep has been totally messed up. Is this normal? Fell asleep fine, wake up almost every 2 hours and was sweating pretty heavily both nights. Uh, how long does this sleep bullshit last???

All part of the plan. It will pass. Try some Melatonin. It's an all natural sleep medicine. For me all of those issues passed by day 4. Keep quitting. I know you can do it.

Its going to suck until it doesn't. Everyones' quit is a little different, but all the b.s. is worth it. Don't worry about the eating right now; it is way easier to lose weight than a tumor... Trust me though it will get so much better, and sooner than you would think. Just get through today.
Melatonin is worth a try; also try tiring yourself out with more exercise or a physical project around the house...

Yep. Normal. So, something that rebels so terribly when you refrain from using it can't be all that good for you can it? Stay the course. Your body will rewire and resume normal operations. Keep posting and keep writing. We got your back.

Day 4 made it through golf without the temptation. 2 guys in our 4 some were smoking, I told them to go smoke far away from me, didn't want to smell the shit. Went though a bunch of fake dip while playing, seemed to do the trick for me. Up and down round, no doubt old me would have dipped 1/2 a can during that kind of round. Hoping day 4 bring me some better sleep!!!

So day 9 here. played 3 rounds of golf in my first 9 days, wasn't really tempted at all on the course, some smokey mountain fake stuff got me through that

Biggest issue to date is for the first 9 days I am not sleeping well at all.

I fall asleep fine. Problem is I wake up at 200AM, then wake up at 500AM for good. Crazy shit. Not a fan of sleep meds so I guess I will just deal with it and start my day earlier.
