Title: I quit
Post by: kayakdude on February 12, 2014, 01:52:00 PM
I just joined this site today but I actually quit chewing on 2/9/14. This is day 4 and it is actually a very hard day. I am snowed in and I feel like I am coming out of my skin.

I am 46 years old and have dipped and chewed for years. Most people that know me don't even know that I do it. I don't need to spit so that makes it easier to hide.

I have been a horrible example to my 2 teenage boys so I decided to just grow a pair and stop.

I did have to buy Nicorette gum and that helps. I am drinking water like a man in the desert. I ran 3 miles yesterday and I do pushups when the urge is too great and I cant focus.

Tell me what day can I hope to feel normal.

Well, your intentions are correct. But if you're using nic gum, you aren't quit yet. This is a zero nicotine site. If you throw away all dip, nic gum, lozenges, patches, etc...then you will be on Day 1.

never...you will never feel normal until you stop putting nicotine in your system. When you stop the gum the nicotine will be out of you in 72 hours. They you will begin the healing process. Until then you are still a slave.

Well...I guess I am glad I found this site...just wish I would have found it on Sunday...so I will reset and today will be day One.

No more nic gum.

Thanks for the support.

What they said below....that said, check out the welcome center (top left on your screen) and read up on KTC and how it all works. Also, get on Live Chat (top right) and chat live with some folks on how and why we do what we do. After 34 years of nicotine, Cigs and then the last 12 years Copenhagen, I am 38 days clean. It is getting better everyday. Replacing the delivery system is not quitting. Hope you take the leap of faith. This site and the folks here will definitely help. I am an avid whitewater guy, guided for years and still get out and play in my kayak or Shredder whenever I can. Your user name intrigues me. Come on over to the nic free dark side!!!

Kayak,
Also, you need to go up the "Welcome Center" tab on upper left of your screen and read everything there. Learn how to Post Roll. It is a sacred requirement and is the price of admission to this club. You must post roll EVERY DAY without fail. You will be in the May '14 quit group and your brothers and sisters will hold you accountable. Make friends and contacts, exchange phone numbers. You will need them as lifelines. Now go throw your stash and that nic gum away NOW, and get your quit on.
If you have questions, PM me.

We must have been typing at the same time. Throw whatever you have left, gum, patches cans of dog shit into the toilet and flush it....no late night dumpster diving. Post roll with May 2014 quit group. I am sending you a PM with a link on how to do it all.

See you got roll posted....awesome decision.

One thing to note, make sure you Control A, Control X (cut)....do not just copy and then Control V to paste to top box. Otherwise, it doubles up. Fixed it for you today.

Welcome aboard, fellow May traveller!
First few days are the worst, but it gets better, a lot better. You're going to have to re-wire your brain to get healthy and purge the nicotine. If you're bored, even if you're not, read all you can in these pages, a lot of gold is thrown around in here. As you already said, drink all the water you can, exercise. Stock up on chewing gum, mints, fake dip...whatever floats your boat. Keep stuff in your vehicle, golf bag, gym bag...never be away from your 'replacements'.
You can do this!

I posted roll call...it felt really good. Today is that day when I am having trouble with the simplest of task and everything seems to be difficult. My mind is racing and just need to stay busy. I gave my wife the nic gum and told her to make it disappear.

I got several PM's which really helped...

For whomever asked...kayakdude is a nickname I have for a while...I belong to a group called Hardcore Kayak Fishing Team...we are basically a band of brothers that fish from kayaks all year long.

Thanks for the support.

Welcome to the fog kayak. It gets better. 72 hours to clear the nicotine out of your system and then the head games begin.

You have the right idea. Stay busy as possible. When you really start to feel it crank up, bang out as many push ups, sit ups, and wall squats that you can. The physical exhaustion will help with the craves.

Drink as much water as possible. I can't claim this, but if you walk by a bathroom and don't have to pee, you aren't drinking enough water.

Stick by the website and use the tools afforded to you and you can/will do this.

What he said ^^^^^....love to fish too; especially from my raft. Get's you into spots others don't get to fish. Hold on, you will get through this....it gets better and you only have to quit and make it through one day at a time (ODAAT).

It s not so bad! Once you get past the physical trauma of quitting you get to the good stuff. After the first few days, the nicotine is out of your system. Now you get to learn how to live without the poison lying to you. This is tough for some people. Some of us think we are cured and leave KTC to learn life the hard way. But if you are smart, you will recognize you are an addict and you will surround yourself with strong quitters who will show you what freedom is all about. You are here to quit! Read everything and learn, then you have all the tools to STAY quit! Its easy to decide to quit! It takes balls and courage to stay quit! Be a man and regain your freedom!

I am surprised at how helpful this site has been today.

I have done a lot of reading and it really helps.

I now feel like I am not only accountable to myself but also to all the people here.

It is great after you swallow your pride and join.

I ran 3 miles on the treadmill.

I do 10 pushups every time I have a urge...up to 60 for the day.

I am amazed at how clean my teeth feel after no chew for 4 days.

I'll be on roll call tomorrow.

Just the kind of guy Project Mayhem needs! Welcome aboard, Kayak -- great to see a new newbie embrace the site right off the bat. Your first few days sound identical to mine -- feels like you're sprinting balls to the wall on a hamster wheel of progress? That's good. Remember the feeling, embrace the discomfort -- these are the days you want to remember whenever you're tempted to cave, since no one in their right mind wants to endure a second round of the suck. Nothing wrong with some physical activity to serve as your replacement therapy, either -- and if all else fails, you've got some solid quitters already in your corner willing to lend a hand. Stay strong and quit on.

The "high" feeling of the quit will fade a bit. I don't want to rain on your parade but I want you to be prepared. This is why your commitment must not waiver and your new mantras should be ODAAT  NAFAR.

I quit with you today. Congrats on reclaiming your freedom.

Are you doing Chesty Puller type pushups?

Keep in min there is an exercise group place on this forum as well. I too do push-ups or burpees when I get a craving. The funniest is when I get a random craving and stop what I am doing to do the push-ups.

Apparently it is not common for people to do push-ups at the supermarket just FYI.

Every day I am quit I feel better, just be prepared for the moments when being quit seems to suck, the smile during those push-ups.

I only needed to do 30 pushups today...but I swear the pushups work.

I use the perfect pushup things and vary it up.

I think exercise does really help and a big reason that I am quitting is for health reason so I might as well trade a bad habit for a good one.

I had to drive my neighbors kid to the ER today after a sledding accident, broke collarbone and concussion. Driving on icing roads, in the past, would have been a must to have a dip or chew to focus. But today I was good.

Thanks for all the support.

I wish I was in better shape. I bet pushups work better than the somersaults I've been doing down the supermarket isles.

Hi Kayak, if you are able to post a message on your intro thread you should be able to post roll. It is the exact same message board format for the intro pages as the quit group pages. And like Derek says, you can always text someone to post roll for you.

We take roll very seriously here. It is what keeps you accountable and quit. Hopefully as you move forward you will come to understand. In a nutshell, once your name is on that roll you are bound by your word not to use nicotine. So you have taken nicotine out of the day's equation. That's how you need to think about roll. That's how you will quit this shit long term.

Not a sermon, just a thought. Well, maybe a sermon.

Anyway, don't miss roll if you're serious about your quit.

I understand. I posted roll call today. 6 days with no nic.

I will not miss again.

I do feel stronger on the day I post...it seems to give me an edge on making it through the day.

I will tell you that first week is really hard...I have never felt more out of shorts that I have during that week.

I do feel like the urge is less and I can tell a difference in how I feel.
There you go kayakdude! Exactly right... Roll is the cornerstone of the site. it is the key to your quit. Post EDD. I will join you. Quit on!

Hi Kayakdude it looks like you're doing good- keep it up. I like that you listen to the experienced quitters here- the method here has really worked for me, when nothing else ever did. One thing that will help wiht roll-posting difficulties is making sure you exchange some numbers with some fellow quitters- from your class and from other classes as well. That is how you build out your own network of accountability and support. Then, if you can't post, someone else can easily do it for you. I"ve relied on that several times already, as there are times when my internet access is bad.

Keep up the good work! You can do this!

PM me if you want, and I"ll be glad to trade numbers to help build out your network.

Today is day 10 with no chew/dip and day 7 with No Nic.

Each day feels better.

I kinda see this a place to express myself and my thoughts or anything that helps me get through this.

I am truly committed to quitting. I have quit before. I quit for 2 years but did not have the support of this group nor did I really have a long term plan on quitting. I used to dip a can a day and I quit. I made a deal after a period of time that I would allow myself to have a cigar...big mistake....one cigar became two cigars...and then I started chewing them...and then a was buying chew and my two year quit was over....that is why I now fully understand the NO NIC rule..you have to quit everything!!! This has to be absolutely ZERO tolerance.

I share my thoughts so that might be helpful to someone else reading this.

Good words brother. It is something how this poison works. Thanks for the facts ktc. This addiction is more ruthless and manipulative then we could have ever imagined. It used our own mind to convince us we were in control. It allowed us to believe we made the decisions. I hate the poison.

I am on day 9 and I am started to feel better physically and sleep better but still far from normal.

I visit this site when I really feel the urge and it helps knowing I have made a commitment to myself and everyone here.

here are my goals:

Continue my quit for life.

Get rid of anything related to my cigars since I am committed to NO NIC.

Focus on my health (blood pressure is lower since stopping)

Go to the dentist...I was embarrassed to go before.

help others quit too

Yesterday was day 11 and was many first for me.

It was the first time I fished without a dip/chew that I can ever remember.

I put on my life vest and in the pocket was a pack of Redman chew. The only urge I felt was to throw it away.

After fishing I had dinner with friends. This friend always lights up a cigar after dinner and I always joined him but not last night.

I will take these small victories on my way to the next day of my quit.

Day 16...I am feeling good. Physically good but not over confident. I know this is a long journey.

I have now watched 3 of my sons HS baseball games...the first 2 were hard..but the third...I didn't have the urge....NO NIC feeling pretty good.

My sleep pattern is a bit crazy...I sleep soundly for a few hours and then wide awake.

I have monitored my BP for a long time:

Avg while chew/dip: 139/87 pulse 74

Avg for last 16 days NO NIC: 129/79 pulse 65

I just added years to my heart and my life!!!

I don't know about you guys but since stopping..i am producing more gas than Exxon.

ODAAT.

Thanks for the support!

Today is day 28....

I am feeling better and stronger each day. There are still times when the urge is so strong but I am now learning how to deal with it. I have many tools and resources to handle it now...including some digits from my May Group.

I have found that if I read introductions of new quitters and add advice it makes my quit stronger.

Staying involved in KTC is the key.

Never missing roll call is key...I will be at 97 % when I reach my HOF date because I failed to post early in my quit.

Thanks to all the continued support.

Today is Day 50...I am proud of that fact but in no way have I arrived yet.

But I have learned a few things in the last 50 days that I will share in the hopes that someone might benefit.

When you make that decision to quit and join KTC do the following:

1. Buy in 100 % because it is a system that if followed will be successful.

2. Don't think you are special..everyone here understands what you are going through.

3. Never miss roll call and start your day with it.

4. Read Read and Read.

5. The first week is bad. Man up and fight for your life and your freedom.

6. Build some relationships in your group.

7. Build some relationships with some badass quitters way ahead of you.

8. Don't be a spectator...get involved in the site...encourage...help..

I could keep listed things but you get the idea.

I am halfway to the HOF which is really just the beginning of my lifelong quit journey.

Thanks to all my brothers who have helped me thus far.
