Hi all, my name is Josh and I just joined KTC. I am 23 and have been chewing 4 tins per week of griz straight since I was 16. I quit once before for a few months, but stress drove me right back to the can... I am determined to do it again and stay away from this stuff for good!! I've read some of the stories on here and am really inspired to make it happen and stay on track for good. My plan is to taper off for a week and then start cold turkey with maybe smokey mountain and cinnamon candy (seems to kill my cravings a bit.) Any advice to ease the path of destruction I am probably going to make would be greatly appreciated!! Just tapering back a bit the last few days my girlfriend has almost had enough of it already haha. Thanks for any help, and I look forward to kicking the can!!

Hey josh, why don't you just dump whatever you have left down the toilet and start the fight today? Its gonna suck just as bad today than if you "tapered" off. Today is as good as any day to quit.
-
That's a very good point. I think I will and just get started right now. Really not looking forward to the anxiety and headaches again... But hey, I did it to myself.
-
Not to mention the insomnia! Which is why I'm awake at 3:30 am :l

I had the idea of doing the same thing josh, but tooany times our "I'll quit tomorrow" doesn't happen as planned. My plan of tapering off was halted when a veteran in this site told me if I wanted to quit I had to own it and flush it all. I took my can a day for almost 17 year habit and flushed it. It is your quit and your call, but we are a nicotine free site here. It is the best decision you will ever make, but you have to jump in.
-
Just flushed my last 2 cans... I would say it was bitter sweet. Just gotta keep thinking of the good things to come from it. It's crazy how we can get so addicted, mentally and physically and we don't even notice until we gotta quit!
-
What was the hardest time for you? Was it the first day? The first week or 2? Was there a certain time frame that it sucked the most?

Personally, day 2 and 3, because those were physical, and I prefer physical difficulty over psychological. I am over 20 days, and still reach for my can several times a day. I still dream about the shit.

Josh, go here forum/55560/ (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55560/)
And read up on how to post roll and see what we are about. We quit one day at a time here, and if you are nic free and tossed anything you have stashed, today is day one. I gotta get to work, but anybody on this site will help you.

Day 3 was my worst, it's when your body goes "OH SHIT", this guy is now a bad ass quitter. Your body goes nuts for the poison, but if you posted roll that day, you made a promise that you were quit 24 hours. Easy program here, sucks until it doesn't, and then it rocks. Join us if you please.

Sounds like day 3 is gonna be a blast... My next question is, I have an IPhone and can't figure out for the life of me how the roll call thing works, or the quit group I'm supposed to be in. I read about how to do it on a computer, but didn't see anything about how to do it with a phone. I'm kinda tech stupid... So that doesn't help.

Glad to read that you manned up and flushed the 2 tins...just know this, it's anything but bittersweet. It's pure sweetness that we're concerned about making sure you achieve. My advice about roll posting from the phone, do it first with your computer a few times; make sure you can do that correctly. Then on your iPhone, it's the same thing. Open up KTC on Safari and do the same thing. you need to double tap the text so you can "select all" then tap "cut" and go up to the blank section, tap in that area and then the "paste" prompt will come up.

Josh, awesome decision to quit! Read everything on KTC, and I mean everything! Start with the welcome center and then read some cancer stories. Read a few intro threads from beginning to end. Pick a couple intros from the first page, a couple from a few pages in, and find some from the long time quitters. Read HOF speeches, HOL speeches, and words of wisdom. Jump into live chat.
There is so much knowledge about quitting on KTC that is there for the learning, but it is up to you to own your quit and work it.
Drink lots of water, exercise, and get some sunflower seeds or fake dip or whatever to help fight the craves.
Also learn to focus your inevitable anger at the poison that would make you a slave, rob you of your money and health, and eventually kill you...
Yes quitting is a hellish experience at first, and it is a roller-coaster ride of better and worse for the first few months, but it gets so much better. The important thing is to quit one day at a time; minute by minute if need be. The craves will pass, and eventually disappear.
You can do this! PM me if you need a # or have any questions.

Hey josh! Glad to meet you my friend! Now that you've decided to do quit, jump in with both feet don't look back, except to look at what you've accomplished! We're all here for same reason. ..we're addicts hard words but true. Been an addict for 38 years on day 23 quit! I couldn't do this without all my brothers on this site! Post roll, listen and read all you can you can do this!

Thanks guys for all the support! It's only day 1, but I feel more confident than usual just knowing I'm not alone and knowing everyone on this site has been here and gotten through it!

Get balls deep into your quit. Read the site head to toe, make some friends in your group, exchange numbers, and be accounyatble.

Welcome aboard! There are instructions on how to post roll using a phone. Also a tutorial video. It will probably be difficult for you at first, but you'll get the hang of it. I know I had to watch it several times because my brain was foggy and even kind of got upset with myself, but I figured it out finally and now it's a piece of cake. You'll learn how to do it if you are that devoted to quitting... Good luck!

Just got done watching it and posting roll for today haha. Thanks again!

Anyone here have gum damage? Looks like my middle front tooth has some gum recession (which is another reason I'm quitting) going to the dentist in the 5th... Just curious what to expect.
