Title: Hello everyone
Post by: eyehatecope on August 05, 2015, 04:16:00 PM
I woke up roughly around 6:00AM Saturday, August 1st, 2015. Brushed my teeth, moutwash etc. Had a bit of a scare after that. As usual, I opened my mouth to check in the mirror for anything out of the ordinary. I noticed in the back of my mouth (along my jaw) a spot, which was black. I figured I had bitten my jaw during sleep. Thank God it turns out I did just that. Something that morning as I was looking in the mirror with my flashlight told me, this is enough. Aren't you tired of worrying? I have hated dipping for as long as I can remember. And I have Always said, I hate this, I absolutely hate this with a passion, yet I can't quit. 8-2-2015 my mouth, gums, teeth freaking hurt like they were being pulled out of my mouth. Add in here that I have attempted this cold turkey. Maybe someone on here can explain that. My opinion is withdrawals. Hurt all day long. The past few days though, they haven't done that. I'm ready to keep pushing and beat this. I must defeat copenhagen longcut. I can't simply sit back and let it defeat me, my wife, and daughter. Thanks

Most of us have had that moment of standing in front of the mirror looking for cancer. I know that I did. Make an appointment with you dentist and get it checked out. In the meantime get over to the Welcome Center (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55560/) and learn about the site. Then go to November 2015 (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55560/) quit group. Introduce yourself and post roll. You are in the right place if you want to quit for good.

My guess is bruxism, grinding of the teeth while you are asleep, maybe a withdrawal symptom. Sounds like it has gotten better. Don't live your life doing what you hate, what kind of insanity is that. Stay quit.

Get posted up EHC. That is the most important task you have from now until bedtime tonight. Post your promise and be a man of your word. The reward? A bounty of information and support that you cannot yet comprehend. It's practically free. You just have to let yourself get swept up in it.

Now that you got that password reset, you ready to put some big boy pants on and quit? This dipping your toe in the water to see if it's cold stuff is a waste of your time. Jump in with both feet and start treading water. You don't need to be swimming yet, just keep your head above water. Soon enough you'll be dog paddling, etc. You can't learn to swim without getting in the water. DO IT!

I'm not having trouble swallowing this is hard to explain. I go through the day fine. Towards the end underneath my tongue and feels like through my throat it burns. Anyone else with this????

Odd feelings happen. I don't know which to get worried about. You may want to float this in your quit group ... more traffic so more potential help.

Ironically enough I have had no issues with my mouth that others have reported. On another note, my throat does hurt a little bit. Not even enough worth mentioning really. Iv'e read that it is all par for the course though and will go away in time.

Dealing with a nagging throat issue on day 57. Kind of hurts to swallow on the right side. Nothing major at the moment will continue to monitor this. Possibly pulled something. ANy way other than that quit is going great. Just jinxed myself but bring on the challenge. I'm not going back. I hate you nic weed. with a passion.

Also noted kind of feels as if it's underneath my tongue and goes down.

Hope everyone is having a good day/night.

Experienced some swallowing issues today, right now they seem to be a little better. Weird, if I pushed on the side of my neck it didn't hurt to swallow. If I didn't put some sort of pressure on it, it did hurt. Done rambling.

I have found that I myself have done a lot of soul searching per say during this quit. It isn't a bad thing I promise you. The nic kept me from that for so long.

Hey eye ,take a deep breath, look in the mirror, you're not the same man you were 2 months ago! Sore throats are extremely common on here my brother, I had one just last week. I personally think it's our body healing, the best it can. Quit worrying and enjoy your quit my brother! You're doing great and I'm damn proud of you!

Thank you Pab! I have read on here that we can't expect ourselves to heal over night. I need to figure out how to understand that. I will enjoy my quit. I appreciate the words of wisdom/ pick me up brother. Quit on brothers and sisters.

Hey Eye!

I'm glad to hear things are going well. I saw what you said about doing soul searching, and that really resonated with me. Nicotine has the unfortunate effect of encouraging its users to put their minds on autopilot and just sit there spitting their lives away. I'm glad for you that you're able to now focus on yourself and becoming the best version of you that you can be.

Keep us updated, and quit on!

I'm dealing with same type of sore throat issues. It seems to be getting better but very slowly. I quit Aug 13th so I'm nearing the 60 day mark. I've also done a whole lot of soul searching. This has been one heck of a wake up call. It's amazing how ignorant and arrogant we are when were dipping! I'm just looking forward to healing and moving forward.

I quit with you today!

quit
kwit/Submit
verb
1.
leave (a place), usually permanently.
"he was ordered to quit the cabin immediately"
synonyms:   leave, vacate, exit, depart from, withdraw from;

2.
pause
a temporary stop or rest, especially in speech or action:
a short pause after each stroke of the oar

In my 25ish years of dipping, I don't think I really ever tried to quit or stop. The only times I didn't use was if I was sick and even then I tried. I'm unsure why I thought of this at this moment. One, I'm thankful I have quit. Not realizing what freedom is until I have looked back at the past 2 months. Everyone lets stay strong and quit on..................................

Just read this intro for the first time and really liked what I saw - that being a potential badass in the making. But, before posting a response I went over to your quit group's spreadsheet to check your posting rate. 100%. Suspicion confirmed and we have a bonafide badass quitter. Good stuff Eye. Keep posting roll and start thinking about how you can take your quit to the next level...how can you strengthen your foundation of quit?

Today I will go play golf with my gum and David Sunflower seeds. This will be the first time without the evilness on a golf course and I look forward to it. I won't have to worry about spitting the nasty when I'm on the green.................... Freedom is nice.

Used to play every weekend and a couple times during the week.

Today started out good. As the day went on the cravings started creeping up. Grabbed my 52 degree wedge started hitting the little white ball up and down the hill. Hitting the seeds real hard. After several trips up and down the hill I was able to get past it.

After supper. This hasn't happened in a while but when I got done eating I thought dang. What is up it's back! Started chewing the ice breaker gum like it was going out of style. I made it through again. Weird how these things work.

The intense cravings sucks! I still get them occasionally after 288 days but they last only minutes now compared to hours before. One thing I will say is we all realize it's mainly mental and the farther along you get the easier to ignore the craves become. You done great try cinnamon hard candy, works well for me also fruit candy hard. Quit on! Damn proud to be quit with you today my friend!

Try toothpicks. There are flavored ones out there somewhere, but I prefer the plain ol wood ones. I barely touch seeds or gum anymore and I never did the fake stuff. Toothpicks are pretty much it. Nice job EHC, you're killing it every damn day. Keep it up.

Why is it going through the break up with the nic/dip that some of us automatically think we are dying? When I had my major bout with anxiety I had written myself off numerous times. waking up all hours of the night wishing my daughter a fare the well. It's kind of funny in a sense that some of us think that way. I'm not worrying right now just thinking back on the past couple months. I've read and can relate to Chewie I belive that called himself a hypochondriac I am as well. I'm trying my best not to be.

Human nature my friend. This quitting is awesome, but at the same time it does some strange shit to us both physically and mentally. Hell nic is so powerful it will have you ready to take another dip because you're gonna die without it! The mental battles can be a huge challenge. 290 day's later the bitch still trys to sneak up on me daily but I will admit, most of the time I can laugh it off but when I can't I text a brother just to feel I'm not alone. My advice go get a complete physical, most insurance companies pay for one a year, no charge, piece of mind, goes a long ways. But I would bet the farm it's all in your mind. Quit on my brother, you're doing great!

I think we're all caught off guard about how profound the withdrawal can be. I know we all realize that the initial quit will be tough but I don't think we realize how bad it is until we're in it.
I had been quit about a week before I discovered this site. Thank god I did. I really just didn't know what the heck was going on and this site (thankfully) answered questions and put me more at ease.

Ha.

This addiction is such an easy one to hide. It is much more prevalent amongst suit and tie banker types than you'd ever imagine....

A banker that swims in the ocean every day from Lis Angeles
Pharmacist from CT
Musician from the Pacific NW
Lawyers from all over the place
Supply chain manager from Canada (22$ a can!)
Financial planner in Kc

These are some of my text friends on here. It is such a relief to know that we aren't alone. You are doing great dude.

Cravings
Irritability,
Insomnia
Fatigue
Inability to Concentrate
Headache
Sore throat
Constipation, gas, stomach pain
Dry mouth
Sore tongue and/or gums

How many of you are willing to go through this again?

I'm not. I thought the dry mouth/throat would never end.

Thankful to be quit.

You have hit 300. Congrats on a successful 1st 300.

What are you going to do from here Eyehatecope?
First and foremost I'm going to continue to post roll and hold myself accountable. I'm not going to slack and say, oh piss on it I don't have time to post today. I will pick it up tomorrow or the next. Nope. Not I. I'm going to continue to enjoy my freedom one day at a time.

Day 428. I thank this site and it's members.

I have been posting some updates in my november 15 quit group and I thought why not just bring it here.

I have a Brother, not a blood brother but, a Masonic Brother. Without giving anything away for those that aren't Masons, there is a difference between a brother and a "other." This is something that we all experience when one decides to join the Blue Lodge and you actually show up to lodge and aren't a card totter. This man has been there for me from day 1. When my grandmother passed away and 5 months later when my mom passed away as well.

My Buddy as I call him has cancer on the back of his tongue. He is also an older man. Smoked for X amount of years, and has dipped since he traded in smoking. He first had a knot/swelling on his neck, right behind his right ear. This was a year ago. I had mentioned to him then that he needed to seek other medical assistance and not to trust these home town doctors. They would give him antibiotics and the swelling would go down but, not away.

Fast forward to this year as he finally went to see an ENT. They ran the light down him and unfortunately cancer is what they found. As of right now he has done the following to prepare for his radiation and chemo treatments.

1. Has had 2 CAT scans.
2. Has had a PET scan.
3. Had all teeth removed top and bottom (yes, he wasn't missing many)
4. Had his port put in Friday so he can begin chemo treatments.
5. Begins radiation this coming week.

With all of that said he has not one time complained or placed blame anywhere. He has the best/positive outlook that one can have. The doctor has told him twice that he believes 110% that this can and will be gone once the treatments are finished.

I just ask that you all send a prayer his way and I will continue to post updates as he progresses. Thanks, Eyehatecope.

Have you hit the BIG 100? Wonder what happens next? Here is what I remember.

100. So excited. Posted how I was going to keep one foot in front of the other and do things as I had day to day. Although that holds true, I wasn't aware of what was coming my way. Boredom. Boredom with quitting. Counting the days now sucked. Complacency. Guess what? Again it's been said again and again but, with the same message in the end. It's the nic trying to sweet talk you into coming back. My suggestion is to further your own quit by reaching out to one of the new quitters, for example, Feb or Jan 17 quit groups. Talk to them if you are one of those that haven't made that leap yet to reach out to someone other than in your quit group. Exchange information. This I really think will allow your quit to go better than it is now. Give you that pep in your step.

Been sitting back, hoping and praying and will continue to do so for my buddy/brother George. He had a setback from a reaction to the chemo treatments the week before Thanksgiving. He has been in the hospital since then.

So far he has had 3 surgeries on his hand due to complications/staff infection.

His heart, kidneys and other organs weren't doing so good at first. Now those are under control.

The update I got last night was pneumonia was possibly setting in and they were going to test today to confirm.

Please continue to pray for him and his family.

Do you know why this site works? People actually care. They care as much about things that happen in your personal life as they do about you quitting tobacco.

Don't believe me? The only way you can't believe me is if you haven't already made a connection with someone on here. Sharing digits, being there for them, them being there for you. It's real people. Step up and use it as it should be used. You will be forever grateful.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out to me, said a prayer for my brother/buddy George. Today will be tough.

This man was always there checking on us, giving us a hug, telling us he loved us. Was just a ball of Joy. We as earthly humans hopefully run across someone like this in our life time. When we do I hope we cherish every moment as I know I have. It will help with the easement as we all move forward.

Rest in Peace Brother. SMIB. Eyehatecope/Rob
