Title: Day one of the big quit
Post by: cdnbpb on July 22, 2015, 07:11:00 PM
Hey all,

I have finally decided to give up chewing tobacco for good. I started back when I was attending school in ND, USA (I am from Canada) in 2009. The price was cheap in comparison to up here, so I figured why not. Chewed a variety of skoal and copenhagen products. Fast forward, and I went to study in Norway for 6 months, and took up the addiction of using pouches. Did I ever enjoy this, as I could use the product without anyone having any idea that I used it.

Returning from Canada was difficult, as I didn't think pouches existed. It wasn't until my friend introduced me to them, and I was hooked all over again.

Reasons for quitting:
Money: I cannot afford this habit anymore. I am going through a tin a day at 20 dollars a day.

Fear of Cancer: I have this overwhelming fear that I will get cancer as a result of using pouches.

Fiance: She hates it, and how it financially sets our family back. She also has a huge fear that she may lose me.

Day one has been difficult so far. I had to do a lot of driving, which I would normally go through a few pouches. I stopped at a gas station and picked up some sunflower seeds - this helped, although it did not help with the sensation of having something in my upper lip.

I am not going to lie, I am fearful that I will gain as much weight as I did last time I quit (Approximately 40 lbs). Any tips to help with this is greatly appreciated.

First of all congratulations on making the decision to be here and quit. I truly mean that! I want you to keep something in mind though, during your quit. You need to do this for yourself, not for your wife or your family or your wallet. Those are all side benefits but unless you do this because you want it, you will fail. This can sometimes be difficult to grasp but its the truth. Second, the way to quit is already a paved path, you just have to follow it. Post roll each day and make the 24 hours promise to yourself, us and your friends that you will not use nicotine. You do that and you will never use again assuming you are a man of your word. Third, if you are worried about gaining weight you need to do a little exercise which will also help with your quit. I'm not even talking about pumping iron, just take walks, ride a bike, just get up and move. Again welcome to KTC!

Thanks for the words Menace. I have many more reasons that I perhaps should have put in my intro. I wrote a letter to myself that I carry in my wallet that has all of these. As I have quit for 7 months and went back to using nicotine, I realized that I need to be posting roll everyday, and have the support of this community. Thanks for the tips about exercise, wasn't sure how strenuous it had to be.

Welcome man. I just joined as well, and am day 4 of my lifelong quit.

I already feel better.

Show your fiancee this website if you think it will help her understand what you're going through, and that it's not about her but about you.

We all quit with you.

Good decision man. At 20 bucks a day, do the math.

But don't do it for the money. Do it for yourself. Do it for the freedom. Do it because it could save your life.

Day 1 sucks. But not as bad as cancer. And everyone here has gone through it. I went through it 199 days ago and I have no regrets.

Go post roll in October and promise you won't use today. Do the same thing tomorrow. Before you know it you'll have a few days behind you and it'll get a little easier each day.

You can do this.

No problem - but remember you never really quit before today. That was a stoppage not a quit. Once you quit here at KTC that is the start of your quit. Hell I stopped several times before finding KTC. I used to call that quitting as well but you can only quit once. I also used to think this was a bad habit. Its once I realized that it was an addiction that I quit! Again welcome aboard and I will quit with you today. Remember just one day, one hour or even one minute at a time. Whatever it takes to keep the weed out of your mouth.

Congratulations on finally quitting. Don't worry about gaining some weight, I've probably gained about 3 or 4 pounds already from overeating and when my mom quit smoking she ate a lot of chocolate and gained a lot of pounds. You can always lose the weight, but the side effects of dip if you don't quit may be with you forever. Sunflower seeds are perfect because they taste great and its the best you're going to get to help with the "putting something in my lip" because it sits in your cheek. I'm waiting sunflower seeds right now as a matter of fact. Just watch out though, when my brother's friend quit a few months back, he had sunflower seeds in his mouth like 24/7 and all the salt in the seeds made his cheek all sore and it was hell for him. Just don't over do it.

Well ill stop rambling and good luck to you brother I'm quitting with ya

Welcome brother. We've all been here before where we thought we could go it alone and make it stick. Well there are 24,000 examples on this site of people that couldn't do so until they had the support of a bunch of strangers.

It sounds bizarre, right? Well don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Just accept the support and give it back. The accountability you will build will be a cornerstone in your quit, and prevent it from being another stoppage.

You got this CD, I quit with you today.

Post roll first thing if at all possible. That way you promise to completely take nic off the table for the day. Nicotine is looking for the tiniest of cracks in your quit armor. If you leave the door open, nicotine will try to get in there. You can do this, post roll every day as early as possible and you're setup for success.

Roll is the strength of your quit. If you're like most of us were as soon as your feet hot the floor you were craving nic. Now you should be craving roll it's your promise to yourself and all of us! Remember someone's always watching you,we're a family here and we watch after each other. Post as soon as you wake, piss, post it's that simple. Quit on!
