Title: Hello..
Post by: Wiiman81 on December 30, 2013, 10:34:00 AM
Hello fellow x dippers, I am on day two of a new me and no more Skoal running my life. I've chewed for a long time (10+ years). A colleague of mine joined kill the can and has been dip free for 93 days now, thanks Jake for the inspiration. I loved chewing, but deep down it bugged the shit out of me to know the possibility of having no tongue or giving myself cancer was a reality at some point. I quit for me, my wife and my kid(s). I did some math last night and figured the cost per day of chewing (including a can of chew, my increased life insurance and overall extra trips to a gas station). I figured I was spending $6.39 a day for the past ten years, do the math, I was the loser in this deal.

Welcome to KTC, welcome to taking your life back one day at a time. It is very important to note that you have to do it daily, hell some days hourly.

You seem to have your mind and heart set on quitting, so let's do this.

Learn how to post roll: How to Post Roll (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=50)

Post Roll here: Pre HOF April 2014 (http://forum.killthecan.org/index.php?showtopic=9259)

Read everything that yo0u can on here. Take it in as your time allows. The minimum price of admission on here is to post roll daily, that is your pledge or promise to be quit for that day. Take that seriously as this is a promise.

Quit like a beast every day and own this; it is not easy but if your life is worth having then you will learn to fight through it.

Exchange phone numbers with other quitters, use your buddy Jake to help; if I can do this you can do this too!

P.S. The underlined words above are links to locations on this forum.

Welcome, Wii!!! Glad you are here and really glad to hear you decided to quit.

We quit one day at a time here, so don't think about "forever" or even tomorrow - those are mind tricks that the addiction will play on you, to get you to give up - DONT LISTEN! Just quit for today, and tackle tomorrow when it comes.

Some tools that helped me in the early days was 1) using substitutes like sunflower seeds, jolly ranchers, atomic fireballs, gum, and fake chew, and
2) exercise! Lifting weights really helped me get rid of that "rage" feeling and lessen my anxiety. but any exercise will help you with all that extra energy and anxiety. Whatever type of exercise/activity you're into, do it everyday!

Rick

First, Congrats on a great choice, Wiiman!!! 2 days is a GREAT start. It gets better. Pinched and Rickdd gave you all you need to know. But I want to talk about one comment you made...you "loved chewing"????

I've heard that a million times. People say it was "the flavor," it was just "the routine," it was "a habit," they liked to "pack the tin," etc. ALL BULLSHIT!!!

I know...because I used to think exactly the same way. The truth is, you are Pavlov's dog...nicotine was your reward. Nicotine trained you to not only tolerate a disgusting, stinky and dangerous addiction, but you have confused it with "love!!!" Tell me nicotine is not one powerful drug, right?

The trutch is you are an ADDICT. You'll ALWAYS be an ADDICT. There is NO CURE.

But, here's the good news...you can CONTROL your addiction. Look at the Quit Groups. Everyone here is controlling there addiction one day at a time. YOU CAN TOO!!! It is really hard to do at first, but gets easier...I promise.

I'm not picking on you...like I say, I thought the exact same way. My guess is that we all did. But give yourself time away from Nicotine and you will puke at the thought of proclaiming your love for something so nasty and deadly.

Welcome to KTC, brother!!!
