Hey. Found and joined the site in March 2013 thinking that I wanted to quit. Lurked for a while but then went on with my life and with my habit. Well a year and a half later, I sure made a mess of almost everything in my life and sure wished I quit this nasty crap back in March 2013. Been dancing with this stupid shit since college. Got married thought I'd quit. Didn't. Had my first child. Thought I'd quit. Didn't. Had my second child. Thought I'd quit. Didn't. And on and on and on and on it goes. Tired of being a slave to this stuff in a million ways. I just posted my first roll call in November 2014 quit group. Day 1 and scared as hell. But know that my new quit group will get me through it.

Congrats GabbyG. We all regret not quitting sooner, but now that you have committed to quit, all you need to do is make sure you never go back. It wasn't a "habit". Although we all know what you meant, that word doesn't work here.
Meet the fellas, post roll, honor your word, and you're good to go. The next couple days will suck, but we all made it through. Nice work posting roll correctly, by the way. You must not be very foggy yet.

Dont be scared of quitting Gabby, be scared not to.

Any fool can quit for a single day. and thats all you have to do today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Watch your caffeine intake, sip sweet juice to keep your blood sugar STEADY, and exercise, these things will reduce the frequency and intensity of craves.

Welcome, Gabby. Be scared of what you may have done, be excited about your quit. Read all you can here, get in Chat. Exercise and lots of water. Read and heed, don't repeat the mistakes of others. You're in the right place to quit today.

Welcome! As I said in roll, you made an outstanding choice to quit and stay quit today. I know you've been lurking for a while and are probably already familiar with the general philosophy of KTC, but it bears repeating: Come here every day and post roll first thing. That is your promise to yourself and everyone else that you are going to quit for today. We take things one day at a time and renew that promise each and every day. Giving your word is a MASSIVE deal, and you will be held to it. That concept tends to escape some folks, but it's all part of the accountability that becomes so central to our individual and collective quits.

Beyond that, you need to buckle your chin strap and hold on tight for the next several days. If you try and ride things out on your own, you'll be missing the entire point of being a part of this site and will very likely not succeed in your quit. Use the boards, chat, texts, kakao app, etc early and often. Vent until your fingertips bleed. Just don't cave. It does get better. Albeit slowly, but it does get better. Your new quit brothers can be the best thing going to help you get past the roughest patches.

Listen to these ^^^ guys! The KTC way works. Learn the plan. Live the plan. Read everything on KTC and get involved. You can do this, and you will be so glad you did.

I'm glad you posted this. I had these same thought processes before I decided to quit. Good for you that you are taking the initiative now instead of waiting for an act of God to make you quit.

I did the same thing. Joined. Lurked some. Took two years to finally make the dicision to quit. It was a two day trip of driving my mother in law home to South Dakota to change my mind. Listening to her complain for two days about her health problems that she denied was smoking related convinced me to return to KTC and post day one. This is prolly the best dicision of your life. Welcome, Gabby. I've seen that you have gotten some good advice from Lipi and have been posting in Nov. That is great. You need to slow down time, breath deep and focus on beating your craves just for the immediate moment that you are in. They won't last long. You can stand anything for a few minutes, right. The craving will pass with or without nicotine. But if you use nic, they will never get better.
I got a rush out of beating craves. I didn't always realize they were going on but when I did, I would stop whatever I was doing, take a few deep breaths and focus. In a matter of seconds I would feel in control again. Then pop some seeds or fake in and continue my day. If I can do this, you can.
I hate to belabor the point, but don't feel like it was really clearly addressed and it is important.
This is not a habit. Smelling your finger after you scratch your belly button is a habit. This is an addiction. You are an addict. How do I know? Because I'm an addict.
That little fact, although mainly semantics, puts this battle into the proper perspective. We can never again for any reason (NAFAR) use nicotine. When you think about it, many people go through life without ever using nicotine. I want to be like them.

Awesome choice gabbyg! Proud to quit with you. We are all a little different, but I'm betting you made it through the worst of the first week or so. That fog should be lifting for you anytime, and it feels so good to think nicotine free. Hang in there, we got it this time!
