Title: day 2 is not going well...
Post by: wintergreenpouches on January 02, 2014, 12:54:00 PM
Hi, my name is Keith. I'm 36 and promised my wife and kids that I would quit nicotine on New years. So I threw my chew out yesterday and got through day 1 with gum and dum dum suckers. But now back at work today ( I build high end custom homes in south coast Oregon)and I'm fuking worthless. Can't concentrate on shit, and nicotine is all around me. My brain wants it so bad. Just a quick one....my battle is second by second by second right now. I fear I'm going to cave. Then the shame and starting day 1 all over again. Fuk this shit....I must hold. I'm here fighting....its a mental game....good luck brothers in quit....we shall overcome.
I smoked for ten years then chewed for 8....can't wait to be free. 'bang head'

Keith you're already free as long as you commit to never ever putting that nasty dirt back in your mouth. The first few days are the worst as your body works tirelessly to get the poison out of your system.

Keep ripping the seconds off one at a time and eventually you'll move into minutes, hours, and days. You can't get to 100 without hitting 1, 2, 3, etc. Do whatever it takes to keep the nic out - gum, candy, seeds, etc. Nothing with nic (no patches, nic gum), but everything else is on the table.

The battle is tireless, but eventually you'll be confident enough to tell the nic 'Finger'

Do it for your family, but do it for YOU most importantly. You're the one that will be losing your jaw, tongue, or worse, if you can't kick this thing. Quit with you today brother, PM if you need anything. ODAAT

Welcome, and good job quitting, and reaching out for help!
You can do this, and you have the right approach- get through instant by instant if need be. It is a tough battle, and it it worth it to get through. It does get better, sometimes a little every day, sometimes more.

One thing you will need to consider- are you quitting for you, or for your wife? Sorry to say it, but quitting for someone else won't carry you through it. When things are bad, you will resent them instead of dig in. Sure, your family will benefit, but it has to be for you to work. I know because I tried to quit for others countless times before, as have others here, and it doesn't ever work that way. This is your addiction, and your battle.

You will need to start posting roll with your April class. To start out, go the the WELCOME CENTER- a salmon colored link above and learn the basics. Other than that, keep slugging it out. Read all you can here on the site- the better you know your enemy the less scary the quit is. And make friends- the quitters here are amazing, and bad-ass. They will carry you if you need it - you just have to hold up your end of the deal.

Keith,
Welcome from one newbie to another. My Day 2 was the same as yours. It was the big suck. In fact, everyone's Day 2 was probably exactly the same as yours. I'm only on Day 6 but the fog is lifting. The grind gets a little easier believe it or not. I never thought I'd even make it past Day 3. It does work. Post your roll every day, and read the heck out of this site. Read every post. Read every comment. Start tracking how other guys are doing. Be proud of every day that rolls by for you dip-free. There are a ton of guys (and a few gals) here who know your pain and will help you. Get your Quit on!
ZC.

WGP,
Your first few days and hell maybe even a week or two are going to completely suck, hence why all of us refer to it as the Suck. Embrace that feeling, make note of every miserable day/hour. It will help fuel your quit later on.

Just remember that you are an addict to nicotine, I can't quit for you and neither can anyone else, but we can sure as hell show you the ways that worked for all of us.

Find a good alternative and drink lots and lots of water. I too work in construction and I am surrounded by triggers that would enable me to fall right back into the coddling arms of the nic bitch, but I choose not to daily.

Fuck her and her jaw decay, tooth decay, bad breath and cancer causing ass!

You are in "the suck" my friend. And you are almost free of nicotine in your body. That's a huge step! Get through it, keep your momemtum. It's instant by instant if need be. Keep busy. A lot of guys, including myself, have found it helpful to read intros and other materials on the site a lot the first few days.
Here's a link to some info on the addiciton and how deep the nic bitch had her claws in you- and why the suck is so tough: Why Quit (http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&drKey=1081&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.killthecan.org%2Findex.php%3Fshowtopic%3D9192&v=1&libId=a88623d6-84af-4d23-95db-f569a853856a&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwhyquit.com%2Fwhyquit%2Flinksaaddiction.html&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.killthecan.org%2Findex.php%3Fshowforum%3D25&title=KillTheCan.org%20Online%20Community%20-%3E%20Almost%20there...%20Quit%20Date%20Dec%2031st%202013&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwhyquit.com%2Fwhyquit%2Flinksaaddiction.html&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13887769499006)
Keep going, step by step. You have some good support forming around you, and you can build more by just reaching out. Keep it going, if I can do this you can too. Glad to quit with you today!

Day 3 is huge, brother!!! Like Bret said, the nic is almost out of your body. The craves will still be there, but it is a milestone nonetheless. These are moments to celebrate, not spend pining for poison, right?!!!

Look, I know. I hear you...Day 3 is hard. But not quite as hard as jaw-removal, feeding tubes, and chemotherapy. And that stuff is baby shit next to telling your loved ones and kids goodbye. Read the Tom  Jenny Kern Story. Tom passed away with his daughter at his feet pleading, "Daddy, don't go." That makes me choke up everytime I think about it. What do you think Jenny thought while she watched that? Better question...what would you tell your wife and kids with your last breaths?

So yes, dealing with anxiety, sleeplessness, headache and confusion...those are hard. But NOTHING compared to what the Kerns went through. Embrace this shit!!!

Hell yes Bean!
That is some sobering perspective. Something to always try to remember when we think we are having it so tough.

chew that kudzu garbage (smokey Mtn.) and while you do it, think about how pitiful we are that we PURCHASE kudzu to put in our faces FOR FUN.

Trust me, it gets better real fast, just do it today and worry about tomorrow when/if it comes.

Day 919 and day 3 was my worst. I was loopy day 1, and punch drunk day 2. By day 3,....ugh.

Here's the great part: You never have to relive this again. You've chewed for how many days? You think your body will just changes over night? You didn't become addicted over night, and you won't be free over night.

Drink tons of water.
Exercise.
Ask for help if you need it.

Wintergreen pouches were my dip of choice as well. I feel you pain and day 3 is a tough one, maybe the toughest. Day 1 is kind of exciting, day 2 still feeling strong and confident, Day 3 - body and brain is begging for the damn Nic. Stay strong. Connect with your fellow quitters here. you'll find a lot of support both from your quit group and others who have successfully quit using KTC. We are all here to help, boost you up when feeling the pain of the quit, but also give you a kick in the ass if you need that special feeling. We all support the quit and want to help you succeed. I am only Day 60, but have failed so many other attempts that I believe this KTC community is the best quit. Keep with it, stay strong, and we'll help you get through this!
