So, I quit last Friday evening right before my girl came into town. I lasted till 20 minutes ago, about 6 days. It's not the nicotine, it's the habit of having my Grizzly Wintergreen Pouches in. I was eating candy, chewing gum, anxious, on edge, etc. I've been dipping for 20 years and know I need to quit.
I gave into the temptation tonight, but have ordered some Smokey Mountain Wintergreen Pouches and will begin using them as soon as they get in. I realize that I can't do it on my own. I'm extremely grateful that there's a forum for people like me that need help quitting.
Looking forward to connecting with you guys and joining a quit group soon. Thanks.

Hi Rez,
Welcome to kTC. Great support, education and knowledge on quitting this crap.
One question, why do you want to quit? It's not a trick question, just wondering what is motivating you to quit.
-
It's not the nicotine, it's the habit of having my Grizzly Wintergreen Pouches in.
Welcome Rez.
The statement above...well that is 100% straight-up no doubt about it absolute complete horseshit.
You are addicted to nicotine. I am addicted to nicotine. Every other person here is addicted to nicotine.
It is like scrambling and egg. Once you break it and mix it up....well there is no going back to the egg being in the original state in the shell.
You sir are an addict. Not someone that has a habbit of having to have a pouch in their mouth.
Realize that. Accept that. Discover how to move fwd and break the chains of addiction.
Head on over to September 2012. Post your word. Keep you word. Holler if you need help.
This can be done. We are all proof.

You are wrong. It is the nicotine. You are a drug addict. You are as addicted to nicotine as a herion addict is addicted to herion.
I am glad you have come here and admited that you need help quitting. You are not alone. 1000's of us could not quit on our own. But the brotherhood and accountability offered at KTC is a proven method to quit and stay quit. It may be hard to imagine how a bunch of strangers on the internet can be the key to so many successful quits, but I promise you that this place works. We are addicts, just like you.
Check out the welcome center link up top. Learn what roll call is and why we post it everyday. Then head to the Sept. 12 group and post day one.
Never again.

@Mthomas3824: It's a combination of things. First and foremost, I know I'm slowly killing myself. Second, the motivation to finally quit besides the health aspects for me are that my girl hates the fact the I dip. I don't resent her or blame her for making me quit, but I'm not going to lie and say that I would've quit on my own if she hadn't come into my life a short time ago. Tonight, I realized that similar to quitting alcohol, I can't do this on my own. So, I Googled Quitting dipping and low and behold, there is help for an addict like me. Thanks for making me think this through even more than I already had.
@bigbamadan: Can't argue with your comment. The only reason I said it wasn't the nicotine was that I lasted past the 3 days it takes to get the nicotine out of my system. I was under the impression that at this point it was more of the habit, the fact that I used the dipping as a crutch to relax. Of course, since I'm new to quitting, I will defer to the wisdom of the group, which is why I'm here. It's in those times of insomnia or anxiety that I most want a dip, since I used it to relax. Thanks for keeping me honest and calling me out on my BS.
-
@Steve1357: Yep. I'm beginning to see that now. I definitely am an addict and need help quitting. Thanks for being here.
-
Good call on quitting Rez, your in the right spot, but your headed for failure already. I get the impression your quitting for your girl , not for yourself. This wont work. You gotta do it for yourself, anything else will result in failure.
2nd you don't use dip to relax, that's a fallacy. That feeling of relaxation is actually just relief from nicotine withdrawal.
3rd , what makes you think 6 days of quit is going to Undo 7 years of dipping. ? Bad news sunshine, you got some learning to do before things get easy. Read up , Tom and Jenny Kern story is a good place to start. Then go to additional resources and read up.
Nicotine addiction is no joke, it's messing you up in ways you can't see yet. Trust the voices of experience here, they've stood in your shoes . They know the path. This is the place.

Rez I really only have one comment, beware! 33 yrs ago I found my special girl, I stopped dipping for her. About 3 yrs later I was dipping again and have been a ninja dipper ever since. Can't tell you how much pain I have caused her. 61 days ago I quit for me and no one else!
-
Yep, not too much to add to what everyone else has said.
There are a few truths any quitter must accept to be successful.
1. I am an addict. I can't have just one. That's one dip, cigarette, pouch, whatever.
2. I have to quit for myself, no one else. Whatever that means to you. For me, I didn't want to be a slave anymore. Dip ran the clock of my life. Everything I did was timed around my next dip.
3. It's a never ending battle. Always be aware, every minute of every day, there could be a major crave. So how do you keep that crave from being a cave? Accountability is a good first step.
Take what you need from this site and leave the rest. Everyone who is here has been through what you're going through and then some. If we can do it so can you.

Rez,
I am just finishing day 3, still a "newbie" but what I have learned from this site has helped enormously. I am now free of the nicotine in my body but I just had the biggest crave I have had in the first 72 hours. I came straight to this site, read your story, read everyones comments, and selfishly it helped me!
If you aren't doing this for you, good luck I have tried the quit for everyone else, doesn't work. It HAS to be for you. This site will keep you accountable and it will help you more than you think. I haven't posted a lot because I like to read more, but I felt compelled to write to you because you are so close, ready to give it all for yourself and I hope you take this journey with me!

hi Rez,
Welcome aboard for the ride of your llife. You've heard the truth about quitting for yourself. It is what works. quitting for mommy or your kids doesn't cut it for a real quit. It is a very selfish, powerful thing to commit to your quit and let nothing or anyone dictate a damn thing about YOUR quit. It is your quit, your nic bitch to battle daily by the minute at times. It is very fucking hard to do. But doable.
1. look in the mirror at the addict.
2. flush all dip in sight and hidden dip too.
3. burn your bridges, destroy the cans, bottles or cups you used.
4. join KTC and post roll call promising that you are quit for today. Brother we all do it 1 day at a time. don't even think about tomorrow or next fucking week and don't let anyone around you steer a conversation about the future....for now you quit today. Stick to your word of your promise. Read, post, read, chat, help others, drink lots of water, use toothpicks, candy, whatever you gotta use to keep your quit strong.
It's a hard train ride. I am day 8. Yesterday I had a crave hit me right out of left field. Fuckin' scared the shit out of me. I thought, "where in the hell did that come from?" Lesson for me: don't get over confident. It happened right after I ate lunch. So, I went and brushed my teeth, drink water, popped a toothpick in and got busy at work.
If I CAN, YOU CAN! I promise.

Thanks Rez,
I asked that question because I dipped for many years. I quit once because I loved my wife, I quit when my kids found my can and it broke their hearts, I quit because my religion frowns upon the use of addictive substances. All those times, I failed in my attempt.
My final quit was because I wanted to. I looked down at a can I just bought and realized it had a power over me. I realized that I chose to be late for work so that I could dip. I realized that dip was most important to me that I put everything second to it.
As I looked at that can and realized that I was an addict and I couldn't quit, I then realized how much I hated it! Yet I was in its power. I wanted to be free. I wanted to be done.
Rez it is an awesome decision but you have to want to quit because you want to quit. An addicted mind is in bondage and only you can will yourself to freedom. You won't work for you freedom unless it is you that wants to.
So once you quit, you can remain quit and your reasons for remaining quit are good supporters but you will need to know that it is YOU that want this.
I had a moment of weakness. An addict quitting will have them. I had been quit for a while and I tried to understand why it was a difficult day. I asked, "does God hate me? or is God trying my faith, is satan tempting me? I was so done with nicotine that the answer I got....Doesn't matter because I am quit. Who cares, I never want to go back to that garbage again.
The money, the lifestyle etc, I said no more. I am so glad I did. It is better being of a sound and sober mind. I never would have made it this far without knowing that I wanted it and KTC gave me the knowledge and accountability to be successful.
Since joining KTC I am undefeated. Never caved! It works.
Summary
1. This quit has to be because you are sick of it and you want to quit
2. Post roll and be a man of your word
3. Have a support system and read, read, read
4 Only quit for the day, addicted minds can not succeed thinking about quitting past a day.
5. If tomorrow comes, simply repeat.
I loved nicotine, today I despise it. It sickens me. That whole industry is a dirty, evil and sick bunch. Welcome to KTC. You quit and there is no going back this time. You better hope you are doing this because you want to be free. If your girl leaves you, it shouldn't impact your quit. Make sure its for you.
There is my thoughts. It is AWESOME to break the shackles of addiction! Hard but victory is a better thrill.

I quit! Just flushed my last can. I will no longer be a slave to nicotine or dip. I will not make excuses that I need a dip to relax or that 1 won't hurt. I will stay strong and check in. I'm not doing this for anyone else but me. When I wake up tomorrow, I will be dip free for the rest of my life! Thanks for the help and support guys! Time to go post in roll call!

@Skoal Monster: Thanks for the slap in the face, I needed it. Your comment about the fallacy really nailed me. Did some more reading as you suggested, yep, I'm an addict.
@Wt57: Just like others, you pointed out that I wasn't doing it for me, I was quitting for her. I just flushed what was left in my can. Today, I quit for me.
@jjprice: Thanks for the wisdom. Even just dipping for 1 day, I found myself thinking about it constantly. No more!
@army22: Thanks for your post. I'm glad that I was able to help, even though I was on the fence. But, now, I'm solidly on the quit side!
@30isEnuff: Flushed it all! And as it went down, I didn't regret it 1 bit. I looked in the mirror and saw the addict and said enough is enough!
@Mthomas3824: Thanks for making me call myself out... and then for everyone else calling myself out. You guys were all correct. Last week, I wasn't doing it for me. Tonight, that changed.

Welcome Rez! I'm also new to the site and we are in the same quit group. Let's make it to the end together bro! I dipped for a little over ten years and I'm sick of it. I was a ninja dipper and tried to hide the fact that I dipped from everyone. I tried stopping for my wife and my kids and that just doesn't work. I am now quitting for myself. This site is awesome and the guys here are great. Just post roll everyday and keep your word one day at a time. You can do it bro. Just take it one day at a time and realize it's going to suck for a little bit but it's going to be worth it.

@Mthomas3824: thanks man. will hit you up.
@DeatonBM1: i'm in! i'm committed! i am quit!

Day 4: Cravings hit me bad today. Chewed a lot of gum and popped a lot of peanut MMs. No nic for me today! Thanks for all of your stories. Definitely needed the boost to get through the day!
-
day 5. halfway through the day. tossed and turned last night. maybe getting punched and tapped out at mma practice later tonight will help ease some of the cravings. i have found that randomly walking around during the day with my mouthpiece in works too. stay strong folks, i know i'm not giving in today!

Three weeks? That went fast for me. Great post, glad your feeling good about your quit. Rez, make the promise now that you text or call me when you feel that the fight is kicking your ass. If you're like me, dark clouds are going to start to gather.
When they do, it is a sham and a crossroad. Call me and I will come to your match and cheer you on! Chapter 2 is about to begin but what a great first chapter! Great and inspiring to quit with you!
You can never cave until you call a brother and ask for permission. Right?

Nice work Rez. One day at a time indeed.

Day 27. Just wanted to stop by and read some of the BS I started with when I first came here a few weeks ago. It's good to remind myself of the BS just in case a little voice (my addiction) wants to start talking to me again! This way I know what to listen for and when to scream for it to STFU STFD! Of course all of your experiences also help with that!
I'm quit like a mofo with all of you bad ass quitters today!

I am a huge advocate of either keeping track of your quit here or in a log somewhere. I strongly suggest to everyone to keep something daily. Every miserable detail.
There will be a day when you think you have this thing whipped. When you do get your quit log out and read over it. Who better to tell you the shit you went through than you.
Nicley done!!
STAY QUIT
