Hello,
My name is Joe and i have been using shit in the can for the last 35 years. Attempts have been made to quit in the past, but one excuse or another i was back to the habit.
This time started on the morning of August 19th with a tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy. Yes it hurts. I have held strong over the past 4 days, but it is screaming my name.
I could use any help you can give.

Joe,
Good Choice on Quitting!
Here is my help--I hope you take it.
You are an addict--Only an addict would conteplate putting a cancerous substance in their mouth (especially after painful surgery). Of course you know you are an addict or else you would not be here. The good news is that we all are addicts here and we are here to help---we are addicted to nicotine (the most addictive substance in the world).
Don't worry about how many times you have failed in the past and don't worry about quitting forever. Only worry about quitting TODAY!
The way it works here is that you post roll with your quit group every morning. This is your promise to quit just for that DAY. You are with the November group.
Go to the welcome center and learn how to post roll. Great to have your here. I quit 118 days ago--this place works.

Welcome in Joe, glad to be quitting with you. Nic is always gonna call your name... That is the decision we made a long time ago, and thats why we are all here now. But that doesn't mean we have to give in anymore. Post roll, make a promise for one day only and tell that bitch were to stick it everytime she shows up!! Everytime you do you gain a little ground. She's always gonna be there but we don't have to listen. Welcome to the grind! We got your back.

Joe,
Welcome to KTC, bro. This is the place that will help save your life. Read the HOF speeches and Words of Wisdom. Explore. Send PMs to the Vets and Newbs alike. The most important thing, I believe you can do is to post Roll Call. Everyday!! That way you're promising your fellow addicts that you quit just for that day.
I'm glad to quit with you today.

Joe, welcome. Ditto what these other dudes have said. I came here looking for answers 41 days ago and found them. This works. Follow the rules and it will work for you too. The rules are simple: post roll every day, use no nic, repeat the next day.
Glad you're here. I quit with you.

Joe this is the only site I have been on that actually worked for me! I was on my 5th quit when I first posted roll and gave my word not to use nicotine that day , and I repeated that process the next day and so on for the past 112 days! Its had its rocky roads and treacherous turns but Ive conquered so far! Stay strong, take your quit one day at a time! Proud to be quit with you today. Nico

Jembejoe, LUCK isn't going to keep you quit!!!! YOU ARE going to keep YOURSELF Quit!!! Quitting that crap is the BEST decision you will ever make!!! I banged the nic bitch as long as you did, DIP, smokes etc. I will be 3 years quit next week and I can still remember Day 1 like it was yesterday!!! You can DO this one day at a time!!!! Keep up your end of the bargain, post roll daily, and we have you back! If you need anything feel free to PM me and I will give you my number.
Kdip - Day 1089

No luck, Joe. The only thing that will keep you quit is sheer goddamm determination that you will not put that cancer shit in your mouth today. Don't worry about next week, or tomorrow. Deal with tomorrow when it gets here, and just focus on getting through today, or even hour by hour if you have to. You signed roll call as your promise not to use nic today, so keep your word. Then repeat tomorrow.

Never say never. Listen to these fine quitters.
Miles - 172 days quit - I couldn't have done it without these other quitters on this website
I am amazed every day. My life is so much better than what it was before. I can't even put that shit into words.
Come on in..the quit is good!

Lesson for Joe (and for scowick):
The reason why the urges keep screaming is because: I AM A DRUG ADDICT. I AM ADDICTED TO NICOTINE. I WILL BE A DRUG ADDICT FOR THE REST OF MY LIVE. say that again. ADDICTED FOR LIFE.
read this. It is called the Law of Addiction: http://www.killthecan.org/robs/law.asp (http://www.killthecan.org/robs/law.asp)
You feel like shit because you are depriving your cranium of a drug it has become addicted to. You can feel it can't you? Feels like shit does it not? Grab those nuts Souli is talking about and "the feeling bad because I am addicted stuff" will subside over time.
Here is some science to explain why you feel like shit: http://www.killthecan.org/robs/effects2.asp (http://www.killthecan.org/robs/effects2.asp)
We all got through this. You can too. NO EXCUSES. Quit 1 day at a time.
Whether nicotine dependency was established and/or maintained by being chewed, smoked, drank, snuffed, sprayed, swallowed, sucked, licked or patched, in the end there is only one way out - no nicotine today. ---------- So true. So true.

I have been a loner all of my life and have not relied on anyone for support. Your words of encouragement and support is appreciated. The reading was helpful as well.
I will keep my dignity and promise to all of you. I will not dip again....
Thanks, Joe E.
