I never got around to introducing myself when I first quit, so I thought IÂ’d throw a little information out there. I had used tobacco, Dip only from the age of 16 until my quit date 11 days prior to my 43rd birthday, about 27 years. IÂ’m married to a retired Dental Hygenist, Imagine the shit she gave me. I have 3 great kids. The oldest my only girl has continued to ask me when I was going to quit putting that stuff in my mouth. I never would commit to quit to her or the rest of my family because I knew that when I quit it had to be for me and the decision had to be mine. While I was looking for info on Smokey Mtn Snuff I stumbled into this site and the rest is history. Dumped my can that same night. Below is some journal entryÂ’s IÂ’ve made since my quit started. -Pat
Quit Log
1. Day one , post roll for the first time. Dumped a whole can, Pista and noonelikesaquitter support.
2. Day two, not bad. Would really like to sleep
3. Day three more of the same. Played some golf beat the crave.
4. Day four. The suck is here, Mouth numb, no taste. More support from noonelikesaquitter, Sap.
5. Day 5. Work is hard. Light headed and dry mouth. Hard to talk to clients for a long time. Still not sleeping well.
6. Day 6. More cravings today. Did some fake stuff, it helped
7. Day 7. Played golf cravings still coming. More fake stuff. Woke up at 3 and posted. Fog seems to be lifting.
8. Day 8. Christmas Eve, played golf, went to in-laws – nice to hang out with the family without a spitter.
9. Day 9 Christmas Day, again another day without a spitter, kids opened presents, wanted to put one in when I was putting together kids toys.
10. Day 10. Shopping with wife. Good day without dip.
11. Day 11 Work all day, no dip
12. Day 12 First full night of sleep. Yea!
13. Day 13, Sleep thing lasted one day. Went Fishing and played poker. Both triggers. The urge is gone. IÂ’m dead fucking tired.
14. Day 26..Sleeping much better. Bought some mint snuff the other day, It sucks getting it out of the can. Not a lot of juice either. Going back to the Smokey Mtn Snuff. I really need to get off the fake stuff too. But still have some cravings and its better than the Nic.
Why being quit is good!
DonÂ’t care if the gas station is out of fine cut again
DonÂ’t wonder why there are 30 rolls of Long Cut, zero rolls of Fine Cut, and the Mgr canÂ’t seem to understand how they never have Fine Cut in stock.
No more “Do I have enough to get through the Round? Night? Drive?
DonÂ’t have to explain to customs why I have 10 cans of tobacco for personal use on my 7 day trip out of the country.
My wife will never, ever, take an aspirin, then drink from my spitter to wash it down.
I have saved over $80 in 26 days.
No middle of the night IÂ’m out of dip excuses to run to the store panic attacks.
No more brown specs of crap all over the floor, console, seat of my truck.

Right there with you, golfer. You'll meet your great grandkids some day, give 'em a hug for me!
Every store in town ALWAYS has Cope Long Cut/Medium Cut/Bourbon Flavoured.....what have you.....but I'd always panic when they were out of my regular Cope Snuff.
Why is it that once we have a favorite, NOTHING else will do?

Nice work NC! I'm one day behind you and often look up in roll to see what day you are so that it reminds me what day I am. Things are better 25 days into this, learn from my mistakes I quit for 9 months abandoned the site and didn't post roll. That's why I'm here at Day 25 again. Boys might as well get used to me because I"m not going anywhere this time! I am trainable!
-
Yes, nice work. I am in March as well. Day 32. From GA. Lets do it.! Proud to quit with you.

Day 27 First dip dream...I went to the store and bought three cans in the dream. Felt so guilty I actually dumped the cans before I even put one in...crazy dreams.
Day 35..Cold sore in my lower left cheek..WTF. Popped it..now it just needs to stay away.
Day 39. Dentist today...All is well..It was nice to not have him tell me to move the spot I put my dip around more in my mouth. Can't wait for the six month cleaning next to see how much more my gums can improve.
Day 42. Why so much fake the last few days?

Glad you're still going strong, NCGolfer! Nice to read your intro as well...
-
So glad to be quit with you ncgolfer. 4 weeks is a great feeling is it not?
-
Well done gentlemen, well done! Proud to be quit with you!
-
Thanks for the support guys, it is great to be quit with you. Out of smokey mtn. And I don't care.

How come Tobacco shops are the only places around me that sell the fake stuff? I have to walk into that store, smell the same tobacco smell, look on the same shelf right next to my former favorite brand of shit, and reach up and grab my new can of Smokey Mountain. Makes no sense to me. The good thing is I can walk into that store and complete ignore the old brand. I'm quit 33 days today, and staying that way!!!
-
I had to quit the fake stuff because I had to buy it from the same place as Copenhagen. I was thinking that if I was having a bad day or craving really bad and was low on the fake stuff how easy it would be to cave. So had to eliminate that too. That is just me but that was I felt I had to do.
-
My advice on that is to buy like 10 cans of the fake stuff at a time. My old habbit was to buy 1 can of the Girz whenever I was running out so I therefore had a habit of stopping at the gas station every other day. If I buy 10 cans of the smokey mountain at a time I just destroyed my habit of having to stop to buy chew. One last thing to keep an old habit going.

27 straight years of dipping and not one sore, bump, lesion in my mouth. Quit for one month and I get a big sore in my left lower cheek. WTF...Going to the dentist Monday.
-
Right there with you, golfer.
If a store didn't have Skoal LC straight, I go ahead and get a Grizz Straight or Skoal wintergreen so I could pack one on the way to another store to get the real deal. Then I'd give those cans to the guys in the office that dipped that shit.

Skoal LCS was my favorite too. Couldn't stand any wintergreen shit. Weird thing is with the fake stuff and me, the only thing that seems to help is wintergreen. _ can't stand the other flavors.

Yep, Smky Mtn wintergreen is probably the best. I prefer the flavored Hooch as well. The mint Hooch is pretty strong and holds its flavor the longest. All the fake straight/classic flavors are just awful.

Im thinking half of my own dip problem was just a flat out addictive personality haha Day 5 here and im freaking out just as bad that Im out of gum as i ever did when i ran out of dip

I'm the same way brother. If I like something I do it to death.
I'm 146 days into my Quit and still get edgy when I'm out of seeds or gum. But I just take a step back, laugh, and say to myself "lighten up assmunch!"

I think most of us are that way. Part of the problem in the first place. I know I am carfeful with booze, pills etc. I refuse to control my boobage problem though. I will look at them any chance I get.
Just relax and breathe. It does get better.

Abso-fuckin-lutely addictive personality could play into the mix. Maybe not for everyone, but for me for sure.
For example, if I know my wife bought ice cream and it's in the freezer, I can't stop fuckin thinking about it until its gone. If I wake up at 3am to take a piss I'll end up at the fridge. Changing my eating habits may have been harder than quitting dip, although the dip quit was harder to start.
You should try to see if you have addictive personality or not. Knowing that may help you in many areas of life.

27 straight years of dipping and not one sore, bump, lesion in my mouth. Quit for one month and I get a big sore in my left lower cheek. WTF...Going to the dentist Monday.
Same thing here. Sore on inside of upper and lower lips, left side.
Got a dentist appt for next Friday to get a cleaning :D
Should be the first cleanning I've had in 20 years where I didn't immediately put a dip in after I left the office. Should be fun...

Dont freak. It is normal to have sores in your mouth. It is healing. Go to the welcome center and read the what to expect page.
Relax...

I've had this appointment for the last six months. I read everything to expect, but it still sucks to get that shit after your quit. Looking forward to going to my first nic free dental appt in 27 years. He dips so I'm going to encourage him to look at KTC.

Pushing the caver down with Smokeyg!

Travelled all week with boss and was in mad crave mode. I think I'm at that point everyone before said would come about this time. I beat back the bitch with fake and now I'm thinking I need to find a KTFC ( Kill The Fake Can) site to start posting. Better than the alternative.

see that's what I was afraid of. I've looked up all the so call herbal or natural chew or whatever that is a good alternative to dip. Then I was like ok my goal is to quit the dip all together not trade one in for the other. although the other is suppose to be healthier for you. I don't want to dip anymore at all. That goes for the nicotine or the natural chew. But stay with the quit bud. try cinnamon sticks. They helped me a ton.

I used fake early on in my quit. Dipped it daily until probably 250 or so. Then I just stopped using it. There is nothing in it to make you keep using it. I know there are different opinions on the subject here so this is my two cents.
If it keeps you off the real shit then I say do it. Plenty of quitters have used it successfully. If you are one of the people who thinks it may lead to temptation then avoid it. It is your quit... use the tools that work.
Along with fake dip I ate the shit out of sunflower seeds, gum, candy, straws, toothpicks, boobies occasionally. Just keep your mind occupied.

Thanks Guys, I just saw your posts. I'm still using the fake. For me it is a good alternative and in no way does it make me want the real thing. I have to go into my old tobacco shop to by the fake and never once do I think about buying the real shit. The girl at the counter already has my smokey mtn wintergreen in her hand when I walk up. Some major headaches and urge to chew something lately...fake and toothpicks continue to do the trick. I make my promise everyday, and I will honor you all by keeping that promise.

No boobies here in Baghdad, but I use the Hooch a couple of times a day. I like it because in addition to keeping me from dipping, it keeps me from eating as well, so i'm not constantly stuffing my face with food or candy.
I've also found that I use significantly less of it than I did the real stuff that I had stuffed in my face for 14-16 hours a day.

Didn't think it would be a big deal, but I'm on my first flight since I started my quit. Flying is one of the biggest triggers I've faced. I was actually looking forward to not having to buy two bottles of water just so that I could pour one out to use as a spitter. Now once I got in my seat I've had cravings, I brought plenty of gum and in flight Internet will keep me quit. Still quit at 30,000 feet.

I recall the strange looks from people as I opened a brand new bottle of way-overpriced water and poured it down the drain, so I would have a spitter on the plane. I shake my head just thinking about it... 'help'
-
Thanks everyone. Round trip to Dallas and Back today. Good thing I was quit. Not an empty seat on the plane, stuck in the middle between two women. Would not have been comfortable putting one in during that situation, but I'm sure the old me would have found a way. Still quit!!!

Nice work NC! Proud to be in the same group with you man!

90 Days quit and having the worse craves I've had in months. Took some clients out to dinner, had a couple beers and then was craving. Now I have drank during my quit, been around users during my quit, no problems. Then today I'm craving out of nowhere. That's what this is all about. Make a promise, keep the promise, repeat. This will never end, I'm glad to be here and to be quit with all of you.

You're the man ncgolfer...I had a terrible time with craves right around my HOF...in fact, I remember having one of my worst as I was writing my speech, but I had already posted that day so all I could do was rage and write! Just keep making the promise everyday

Yes, just keep going. You have been an inspiration.
