Title: Really need to quit...
Post by: mollie21 on June 24, 2014, 12:57:00 PM
Hey everyone,

I just happened upon this site while I was looking for information on quitting dipping. I haven't really started trying to quit yet, just the thought makes me sick to my stomach. I know I need to quit, but I also know that it is going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done. I just hope I have enough will power to stick with it. My quit date is July 1st, 2014. I only have a few days left...

So a little about myself: I started smoking cigarettes (Marlboro Red) when I was 14. When I was 17 my now-husband told me he didn't like how I smelled because I smoked a pack a day, and suggested I try dipping. I thought it was a great idea, so I started dipping Grizzly WG pouches. What I didn't realize is that it's not a good idea, because dip has a LOT more nicotine than cigarettes. I started dipping only when I would smoke a cigarette, but that soon turned into only waiting a half hour between dips, and then only waiting 15 minutes, and now I only am without a dip if I am sleeping (although I have fallen asleep with one in before). Now I am about to graduate college, and my husband and I want to have a baby. Obviously, I can't dip when I am pregnant so I need to quit way before hand. I have tried to get my husband to quit with me but he refuses. So I am on my own in this.

Wish me luck!
Mollie

Oh Mollie- First, welcome and congratulations!
Now, just flush (not pitch, flush) all your tobacco and quit today. Day 1. Jump in, do it now. The dips you take by July 1 might include the one that starts your cells mutating into cancer.

Go to the chat function here to discuss it all further, if you need to. Otherwise, please just learn how to post roll next, go post roll in your October 2014 class, which means you promise to be quit for today, then keep your word.

You will probably get a lot of advice to quit now. Please do! Join us today! By July 1 you will be a week quit! and putting it off really doesn't help. You'll even be cleaner by the 4th if you do it now!

Get rid of luck and hope. They don't work in this.

Are you looking to stop just during pregnancy? Or do you want to quit and stomp your nicotine addiction into the ground?

Hi Mollie. Why wait a week? Flush the chew down the toilet right now, and be quit today. We had 3 new quitters that posted roll for October yesterday for the first time, and you can be in the ground floor of October. Waiting a week just adds to the poison you are putting in your body.

Okay, so I really appreciate the concern. I do. I am waiting the week because I ordered some mint pouches and I am waiting for them to arrive before I quit, I really don't think I can quit without those. Maybe I am not giving myself enough credit, but oh well. Also, this is going to be especially hard for me because I can't just flush the dip. :( my husband also dips and he is NOT quitting. He made that very very clear to me. Oh and grizzlyhasclaws, I am looking to quit completely. Forever.

You really don't have a grasp of what you are dealing with. First of all, you need to quit cold turkey right now......fuck that quit date stuff. The quit is for you....not your dreamed of baby or husband or anything else. Quitting is and must be about you! There is no such thing as forever, only one day at a time, and that's what we do here. Read everything on this site, learn to post, and get on this ride. The freedom is worth it but your gonna have to dive in with everything you've got

Mollie, we just had a day 1 quitter today flush 17 cans of shit today. 17 cans! So your husband still wants to use the poison, whatever, but you can step up and show him what a quitter looks like. It's gonna suck with fake chew or not, wish I could tell you differently.

And before you think I'm being a prick, guess who delayed their quit by 30 days using a nic patch? Yes, I'm so smart I went through the SUCK twice. Don't be me, listen to solid advice.

Dump it all now and quit. Listen to these fine quitters.

The time to quit is now. Setting a date in the future is an absolute waste of time. You have done that 1000 times before I guarantee it.

You own your decisions in the present. Make the right one now -- Quit today!

Mollie, it's all solid advice on here. I am quitting like fuck right now, on day 5, and the fake stuff works for me. But I assure you, the only thing stopping you from quitting right now and posting roll is yourself. I set a million quit dates, and none ever worked. I wasn't truly invested in it. I wanted it to magically happen in a land called tomorrow. I failed to quit before. I have failed at quitting so many times, but now I quit failing. You can too. Flush your shit, embrace the suck, and QLF

Mollie. I was in your shoes as far as setting a quit date last month about the same time. I even posted it in my intro... I got the same response. I flushed my lip eating, cancer creating, bullshit down the toilet and started my journey. Don't wait. Make the decision to quit today and go.

Honestly, if you are going to hang your hat on mint pouches.... then I don't hold much faith in your desire to quit. That is weak.

It is gonna take a lot more resolve than that to stay quit today. No crutch is gonna get you thru today. the only thing that will is an intense desire and burn in your belly to say "FU Nicotine... not today!"

A mint pouch will not help you say no to nicotine. You can use any other alternative today, but you are choosing to give us a BS line about waiting for your delivery.

That will not cut it. Maybe you need to figure out if you are ready.

Drink a shit load of water. It helps with cravings and your body will need it for hydration purposes. If you pass by a bathroom and don't have to piss, you're not drinking enough water.

You made the right choice. The freedom from this poison is one of the best feelings in the world, but remember how much it sucks to quit and use it to fuel your quit. Nicotine did this to you. Learn to hate nicotine for doing this to you.

Hey Mollie.
Girl, quitting is hard. It is a battle every single day. It does get better though. You cannot get to "a better" unless you quit, and go through this battle. Until you flush it and just quit, you will always rationalize why "tomorrow" will be a good quit day. You will always have a reason to allow that next dip. We spoke briefly. I understand that your husband uses also. You know that mines does as well. At first, I saw this as an my largest obstacle. I thought for sure, there was no way I could quit because my husband had a can with him at all times. There is one in his truck, one or two in the fridge and one either in his back pocket or within an arms length. My addict brain would listen to that call of what we call "the nic bitch". She is very clever. She will use that fear and doubt and make it intensify ten fold. Posting roll was the only thing that made me push forward and fight every minute if I had to. I gave my word. All I had was my word and 24 hours. It works. You have to trust in it. You can't quit by yourself. You can't plan it out. You are proving that right now. You can quit. You can do this. You HAVE TO MAKE THIS ABOUT YOU. You will NOT get your husband to quit with you. He isn't ready. You have to do this alone. You got yourself here. Get yourself out of it. Use this place for help.

Quit time is now. Wait and die. Its your gamble. It's your move. Go get your big girl pants on and let's do this. You already have my number but I haven't received a text. There are times when a hand is held out for you in this lifetime.....and you need to know when to grab it and take the help.

IM Jeep and ill be waiting in October 2014 Titans for you

There is no other place that can offer you the support that is here.

This is honest, not BS undeniable truth staring you in the face.

You can do this.
Seriously Mollie. Post Roll today. Every person here at KTC has gone thru Day 1. We get it. This place will save your life! Just drink the koolaid.....

Day 1 sucks balls... er... whatever the appropriate phrase is.

But you CAN do it. Won't lie and tell you that it'll be pretty, but I can guarantee you one thing... it's SO worth it.

Welcome!

Mollie, I saw you lurking earlier today, what's the scoop? Quitting is not easy, but it can be done.

there are a lot of hands reaching out to help you. All you need to do is grab one of them. It doesn't matter which one. We all will do the same thing, help you quit right here right now. I can guarantee that you will quit one day eventually. Don't let that day be because of death from cancer. It really is time to get serious and get real. You may very well die if you continue to use. I understand everything you have talked about. I understand being scared. I think the fact that someday you may have to have your jaw cut off or worse is much more scary than putting the can down the toilet. I made my promise today. Are you going to do the same? Grab any single one hand in front of you,  I guarantee everyone else will follow you.

Come on in here and get this done. THink of it like a rollercoaster. Once you make it over that first hill, it's a helluva ride. All you have to do is strap in. The decision is made at that point. Make the decision.

I've read through this thread, and I tell you what I see:

I see Mollie who wants to quit....... who HAS to quit, but isn't sure where to go.
I see a bunch of sucessfull quitters who have the roadmap in hand.
I see Mollie who is hesitant.
I see a husband who should be ashamed of himself for not supporting his wife.

Reach out to some of these quitters if you can't make up your mind. It's a spectacular thing that's available here. We can't quit for you, but we can certainly help. Sing out and the support is yours.

EDIT: Read through my HOF speech and my intro. Those are two stories about a country boy, and his wife and kids. You might find something familiar.

Sorry Mollie, but I am bumping this to the top for your admitted cave and posting a new day 1. Please answer the questions that were given to you in you October 2014 group, and cut and paste the answers in your intro as well. This is the accountability part of KTC. I am not picking on you or singling you out, but if you want our support, this needs to get done.

***bump*** Accountability is key here! You were asked for the answers to three questions yesterday in your quit group when you posted a new day 1 admitting you caved. Today you did not answer them you just posted day 2 and ran. You need to answer the questions for your Titans. The same would be demanded of them if they caved!

Molly you need to answer the three questions. Freedom from nicotine depends upon accountability. You need to answer these questions to prove your commitment to your group and rebuild your reputation within the group. They won't trust you unless you follow the program and thus may not support you to the extent you need.

However, freedom from nicotine also depends upon choice. You also need to answer these questions for yourself. When you reflect upon the specifics of why you caved, you will eventually realize you can chose to problem solve and avoid the reasons for your cave. Once you realize you can chose to avoid or problem solve the reasons for your cave, you will realize freedom from addiction is a simple choice to not use every day.

Right now I suspect you would disagree with me. You might tell me choosing to remain quit one day at a time is bullshit because you're in the middle of the suck. Remember you're in the middle of the suck because you chose nicotine, likewise you can chose to embrace the suck and never feel it again. The balls in your court...

There's one thing and one thing in this world alone that you control: your actions. Listen to chargers here. He's spewing some wise advice.

Never again for any reason.

Whatever the reason for the cave, it was not a good reason. Nobody is forcing you to quit or to use. We are only here to help, and we will have your back always. Put everything into your quit you have. We will as well.

You can do this.

Mollie... Posting roll is a big deal. We take it very serious. You don't get to just cave and stroll back in here under the radar and post a new day 1!

It just don't work that way. You need to answer these because you need to figure out why the heck you posted roll and went against your word. That is BS so let's figure out what your deal is.

Here are the 3 questions.

What happened
Why did it happen
What are you gonna do different this time

Mollie, ya fucked up. Ok, move on kiddo. It's funny, I was debating this with myself the other day looking at all these younger quitters like yourself. Who has it harder in the quit? Some old fuck like myself who's been willingly putting poison in his lip for the better part of 27 years, or someone like yourself that's only been a slave to Madame nicotine for a few? Older right? Or is it younger? First I thought older, cause I dipped and by definition that means I am a selfish bastard who cares for no one other than himself. I've been chewing for 27 years so man it's got to be harder for me right?... No, it's the younger ones i then rationalized. They think they are bulletproof and immortal if you will. "Hell I have years before I need to quit and then it's no problem, I'll just quit then. Who has a lipper i can bum?" Sad truth is it's neither and it's both. Nicotine has no age tenure anymore than cancer has a preference to those who stand and pee to those that sit and pee (side note: one time I was at a Judas Priest concert with a buddy and we had to hit the head at intermission. I get to the front of the line and dropped trow to my ankles and said "don't ya just hate that guy?" Whole line busted out laughing and my buddy was fucking in tears laughing so gosh damned hard.) anyways I digress. My point is this: your suck equals my suck right now. It's the same. Maybe for different reasons, but we are all (even the hardened vets on this site,) going through the same shit and it's all equally as hard no matter what the age, gender or year stripes you have on your grizzly varsity jacket. I fucked up day 1 kiddo, day fucking 1 and immediately called myself out and answere for my fuckup as many times as I needed to, to as many people that I needed to. However, I didn't do it for anyone other than myself and my family because that is ultimately why you are quitting. The men and woman on this site are doing nothing more than helping you hold yourself to that accountability, because you are to weak right now to do it for yourself. Answer the questions and post an apology, because ultimately, it's for you. God bless and kick some chew ass for me. You will do this with us.

Oxman I think I just did a spit-take

Mollie, this is a difficult time for you (when one caves), but it can be the best learning experience for you. One of those times where when you put in the proper time, effort and inward thought can lead you to success in the future.

Those 3 questions are not to berate but rather to put down on paper your plan. It is showing that you understand what happened and to understand what to do so you do not fail.

Now I have seen some of the ladies here at KTC and they are a part of the baddest that come. Get on that horse and become one of them

You CAN do this.

That took Oxman serious balls to post that Mollie. Let someone in your group like him help you, and go through this horrible time together. As a slave to nicotine we have forgotten what freedom is, and until you allow yourself to quit you will never know what we are talking about. That first taste of feeling good on day 4 or 5 was such a wake up call to me that I became addicted to that feeling, and have strived everyday to feel like that..................and at day 88 it's almost everyday. Join, me, join the Oxman, join the KTC and get living again.

Hi Mollie. The point of answering the questions is yes, to help you get your quit in check. You shoudl realize exactly what went wrong, and how you are going to avoid it. We don't get to test out the water, we have to just jump right in. Everyone here had to jump in. Everyone will tell you it's gonna suck until it doesn't. However, everyone is also going to tell you that you CAN do this, and it DOES get better.

So, I am going to PM you again with my number. Please use it. You can call or text...whichever works for you. You are not alone in this. People are not here to beat you up and pull you down. You will get some tough love indeed, you must realize this. We are all here to help you face this head on, really truly understand that you are fighting for your life, and help you quit just for today. I can do 24 hours. You can too. Then, we can worry about tomorrow when it gets here.

Here is another hand held out to you again.....you HAVE TO GRAB ONE HERE MOLLIE!
