Today is day 7 with no Snuff. I use to dip Grizzly Snuff at the rate of a can a day. Around here it's only $1.00 / can so it never cost me that much. Me and a coworker decided to quit together and so far we are both still dip free after 7 days.
I am 39 and have been dipping since I was 15. I'm quiting because it has become a real barrier between my wife and I. Also, I'd like to hang on to as many teeth as is possible.
I've been watching the site since before I quit but decided to join today.

Welcome Russ - glad you made the right choice to quit. Review all the things in the welcome area, get some contacts from your group and post up. I'm guessing you'd be in the Nov class since you are 7 days in.
Post up your word, then keep it. You are heading into the weekend so have a plan and be ready for triggers.
I dipped for way too many years also and I'm enjoying being clean finally. If you need to vent PM me.
I quit with you today!
Stay strong this weekend,
Rob

You've got the first 7 days under your belt. Congrats!!! You've gotten the nic out of your body, now it's time for the physical aspects of nic to start trying to take you out. Don't cave, come in here and pm someone, call someone, go to chat, anything to get that off your mind. I'm glad to have you here and I'll stay quit with ya!!!

Thanks guys. I have to say that the site saved me today. I was "jumpy" all day at work....felt like running circles around the neighborhood or something....Like an ADHD kid with a super-soaker....like a Kennedy at happy hour...you know.
Anyway I decided to mow the grass when I got home...which is a HUGE trigger for me. After reading about smokeless alternatives, I called HOOCH Snuff Co. and found out there is 1 store in my area that carries it. So I drove 30 miles to get some.
I have to say that it worked out well. I'm not a big fan of snuff alternatives, but it did keep me from longing for a pinch of Grizzly.
Thanks!

Attaboy, Cap. Sunflower seeds have done wonders for me on my commutes to from work, as well as mowing / yard work.

About Chewing Tobacco...
Last time I quit (the only other time) was about 6 years ago. I was off the nic for approx 3 years. during this time I'd use chewing tobacco to handle BAD triggers....about 3 times a month tops. I never got hooked on it and never used it at work or in the house. However, once I tried one dip of Skoal, it was only 3 weeks until I was back to dipping a can a day.
I'm doing another 30 miles on the Appalachian trail in two weeks. I'm considering taking one pack of chewing tobacco along with me.....has anyone else ever had this contrast between dip and snuff?

Captain, It sounds like a bad idea. The goal here is nic-free not snuff-free. If you're on this site, you've realized you didn't have any control over chewing and you want to stop. Not sometimes, but for good. I saw some beef jerky chew which looked like it was a substitute for those who liked side chew. I think it's cool you plan to hike the trail. It would be cooler to do it tobacco-free this time.

Great job, Capt Ajax!!! You're showing that Grizzly who the boss is. I tried the fake for a while, but it made me so sick I never want anything that comes in a nice, neat round can around me. For the first few months, I bought tons of gum and big bags of Wintergreen Lifesavers. It helped with the oral fixation. We're here for you.

I know you are all correct. The spitfire Hooch was pretty good. I think I will take it with me on the A.T. and leave the chew behind. After this set, we will have one more 30 mile stint and we will have completed the whole A.T. through the state of TN!!
Did 36 miles through the Grand Canyon this past may.....the whole way while dipping Grizzly........In Vietnam last November hiking....packed 3 logs of Grizzly for a two week stay.....NO snuff anywhere in that country. you should have seen them looking at me taking a dip....like I was nutz or something.
I guess it really is all over. 'bang head'
The good side to it is that it will save me about 1 lb 2 oz in my pack. if anyone here is a hiker they know how much that can come out to be in the long hall.
You guys are right, and I suppose I already knew it anyway.
Thanks
