Title: This is the one hundredth time.
Post by: TonyFlynn on December 21, 2014, 01:21:00 AM
This feels like (and possibly is, being as I haven't kept track) the hundredth time
I have quit dipping. I started off smoking at around 17 years old, just at parties while we were drinking and hanging out. Smoking became an addiction that I loved, but it took too much of a toll on my lungs. It got to the point that I would be out of breath just tying my shoe! So, I swapped to dipping, and actually ended up liking it alot more. I've quit so many times, using so many different methods, from the gum, to the patch, to the lozenges, that it gets depressing after a while and you think you'll never succeed. It's usually the mind games that get me. 5 or 6 days in I just get wild eyed and run to the store.

However.
I have read a lot of excellent info and post on this site and I fully believe that I will win this time because of this site. You guys are doing an awesome job here. I look forward to the hundredth day tobacco free versus the hundredth time caved!

Hey, welcome to KTC. Coming here is one of the best decisions you've ever made. We first have to get one thing straight, you've never done THIS before. What happened in the past were mere stoppages. This is your first and only QUIT. The next step in your KTC membership is to rid yourself of all things nicotine, yes, even the empty cans that have become small parts bins in your garage. You must get rid of every kind of tobacco including cigars, cigarettes, chew, snuff, snus, gum, lozenges, and patches and quit cold turkey right now. Once you've got that done go post roll call (Go to the Welcome Center and educate yourself on how to post roll). Daily roll call is the cornerstone of this website. You gotta do it every single day in order for it to be effective. The daily requirement helps you and your group build two very important things called brotherhood and accountability. When you bring those two things together and use them to their fullest, you will get success. If you have any notion that you'll dip again in the future you're not going to make it. We don't look to the future here at all. We do it one day at a time because tomorrow is not guaranteed. Your quit group is going to be March 2015 because you will hit 100 days in that month. Speaking of 100, realize now that you will not be cured of your addiction at that point. You will never be cured as everyone on this site could easily relapse back into using nicotine but the power of KTC keeps us grounded.
Learn to use the site by reading everything you see. Read the other introductions too. They're quit informative and you may see common ground with all these quitters. Make contacts, get phone numbers using the private message or email system and say goodbye to being a slave to the Nic.
Again, welcome to KTC, I quit with you today.

Make damn sure you don't get bumped off roll man. You gotta check back periodically throughout the day. Please don't post and ghost. Be active in your group and come back here to your intro and update it regularly. Keep it as a journal of your quit. You would not believe how much it helps to write your thoughts down then have another veteran quitter put up a positive reply. I quit with you today man.

This is Christmas 2014 and my gift to myself is quitting! Been quit for 11 days and it's getting better all the time. Don't know if there are any gun lovers or deer hunters on here but I live in Mississippi and I'm all about both. So I've started and envelope with what I would spend on lip shit every week and I'm going to buy a browning x-bolt with it. I would stay quit anyway without that little motivation just because I've made the choice to quit for good. But that gun is just icing on the cake my friends! What does Charlie sheen say? Winning.

There are more hunters here than in the nra! You are among friends. Nice job on 11 days. First Christmas of freedom in a while!

Since quitting I've bought 2 shotguns, 9mm, AR and thousands of rounds of ammo with my savings.

My name is BazookaJoe and I'm a Gun Nut and Huntaholic. Yes you are definitely among likeminded folks. I'm a bolt rifle kind of guy with only 2 ARs and one M1A that hunts West Texas Whitetails, wild hogs, and predators. I just called a bobcat this weekend with a FoxPro and easily dropped him with a 220 swift. A full body mount is forthcoming and my Nic savings may just cover the cost.

Many fans of hunting and guns here. And yes--definitely consider a gift for yourself as you meet significant milestones. For deer hunting, I am a big fan of Savages. We have a 270 that is a Whitetail machine...and it loves Core-Lokt ammo (inexpensive).

Since my quit date hunting was without nicotine, of course. I was nervous about it before, but hunting while quit worked out just fine.

I hunt with a .270 as well. An excellent caliber for whitetail. I want to buy a .243 in the xbolt, as I have never owned a Browning. Yeah the first hunt I went on without dip was just one big long craving-fest! since then its a lot easier, just got to keep my guard up. Bazooka Joe that FoxPro is pretty cool. I have a buddy that has one he uses for coyotes. Stat, I have never owned a Savage myself but I have a lot of buddies that love them. Wt57, that is a hell of a list, you must be pretty far in your quit.

I hunt with a frickin arsenal:
223, 220 Swift, 257 Wby, 280, 308, 3006, 300 Wby, 338 Win Mag, 45-70 (reloading today), 44 Mag, 10mm, and 500 Smith.

I have a hard time choosing which gun because I only have so many tags.

Not at all. Recoil is there but it's not unbearable except if you shoot it 12 times with 250s.

I have a Stoger 12 gauge turkey gun that shoots 3 1/2 inch shells. That thing will put your dick in your watch-pocket for you if you shoot it more than once or twice. The only way I'll pull the trigger on that is if a gobbler is in front of it

I just loaded some 4570 with 350 grain round nose soft points over 45.3 grains of 4198. They should leave dead hogs on one end minimal bruised shoulders on the other.

Well... I am on day 29 and out of nowhere, the cravings return with a vengeance! I mean, all of a sudden it's like I'm back in day one or two! I was seriously contemplating leaving work and getting a can! I couldn't focus on anything because of it. Two things stopped me.. First, I reached out to BazookaJoe who told me that the fog will hit you again around day 30 and again at approximately day 70. Those words helped me tremendously and I want to thank BazookaJoe for that. Second, the fact that I had posted roll and promised that I wouldn't use nicotine that day. The accountability thing hit me just as hard as the facts about the fog. So... I decided that even if I messed something up at work and got wrote up I was not going to leave and cave! I'll tell anybody that this is the toughest thing I've ever done, but has been totally worth it.

Hey Pab! I am probably a bigger fishing junkie than I am hunting. I love crappie, bass, catfish, and saltwater red snapper fishing. Its hard to have enough tackle to pursue all of those as it gets pretty expensive. Crappie is probably the best tasting freshwater fish there is. I can eat my weight in fried crappie. I do appreciate what you're saying about being a man of you're word. If a man has a conscience then it is hard to break that promise that he makes during roll call. I am glad to quit with you as well!

Well.. I'm at day 41 and I think I'm going to weigh 600 pounds if I don't stop eating all the damn time, but the cravings have returned the past day or so. Been eating like a stud. Working nights is the worst, it just seems to drag by, and leaves my mind free to wonder. Guess where it wonders to???

Hey bud we're in the same boat although I was a food addict while I was dipping so after I quit I didn't miss a beat with eating. I finally ended up in the hospital for what turned out to be an anxiety attack. I thought it was more so I immediately made some substantial changes in my life. I stopped eating fast food and junk food and drinking soda and anything with caffeine. I'm tracking those quits on here over in Getting My Act Together and you are more than welcome there.
P.S. I quit drinking alcohol too 663 days ago today.

Congrats on your quit thus far! I gained some weight as well during my first 100 days, I found that completely throwing out any bad food I had in the house was the starting point and then supplementing exercise for any abnormal (outside the regular three meals). It's worked well. Wish you good luck.

Hey Tony. Don't worry about gaining weight. Let me be honest with you. It is going to be a lot easier to lose some weight than it will be to lose your jaw or tongue right? So, keep your quit number one. Add in whatever food adjustments you need to, along with some exercise and it will level out.

Perspective friend....it's necessary.

I tell y'all what.. I went out today and shot some rounds through my rifle, just to make sure it was still on point before I put it up (which makes absolutely no sense as I am fixing to put it up until next season, I just like to shoot) and as I left I stopped at the Texaco to get a drink. There was two guys in line in front of me and the first one was buying two cans of cope and he turned around and looked at the second guy and said "There is just something about this Copenhagen straight, I have to have it in my mouth and I don't know why" . The second guy agreed with him and they paid and left.

Meanwhile I'm standing back there thinking "you're a fucking addict is why you have to have it"
So I guess I'm just saying that at day 53 I was posted up at the back of the line feeling like a wise motherfucker!! I started to put my shades on and say "deal with it"! 'archer'

'archer'
Kind of nice being on the other side, huh? Looking at the addict through the eyes of quitter is a whole different ball of wax and you should be damn proud of the fact that you can see through that lens. But, like those two addicts in line, we too are addicts. The only difference between us and them, however, is that we made a promise to be quit for today.

Yep Tony I know what you felt there. I see addicts that don't know they're addicts all the time. They're like mindless drones that unknowingly play Russian Roulette every damn day. Quitters have taken that same pistol, loaded it's cylinder full of 44 caliber brotherhood and accountability, and aimed it at the Nic Bitch. If she makes a move, she gets dealt with. Thank you again for your words over in my intro and I'm proud to quit with you EDD.

Pab1964 that is a good idea leaving something behind that will lead someone here. I'm an addict just like they are. It kills me that a lot of people around here don't even think the stuff is that bad. They think its just a bad habit, like those two gentlemen.
