Hello Everyone. My Name is Ben, I have been rubbing snuff for over 17 years now, I started out with Skoal wintergreen then eventually lead to Copenhagen. I reached a point to where I was at 2 cans a day. I have gotten myself down to about a can lasts me about a day or day n half. I would really like any tips from anyone on how they quit rubbing.
Now, I have tried countless times to quit, I wanna quit, I wanna quit for my wife and kids and for myself. I have tried the patches and the gum and with no luck what so ever, with the patches I got to the point where I tried wearing 4 of them at once, WIth the Gum I was chewing 3n 4 pieces and chomping on it like I was Mike Dikta. Neither one of them worked, I onced worked myself backwards and the longest I ever gone was 4 days, yeah 4 days, But by that point I was so mean so irritable and had a horrible headache, that my wife is the one that told to go buy a can, I was that bad.
its obvious the nicotine has me, to me I think its also that oral habit, I have to have a rub, always when im driving, when Im mowing the grass, after a meal or when I have to use the restroom. its involuntary, I can fall asleep with a rub in and wake up to no mess, I want to quit, everytime I try and get to a day or 2, somehitng happens, Get stressed out at work, or something, I honestly think that copenhagen has saved alot of lives, many times I have wanted to hurt someone and when I put a rub in, it relaxs me.
To me, smokeless tobacco is the most addictive thing in the world, I have never had problem with anything else, I have quit and do not drink anymore, back in college i did drugs, but had no problem walking away and quitting pot and cocaine. But these cans of copenhagen draw me in like a tractor beam and I cant help it. at one point in the past, I was able to put a rub in my top lip, because my bottom was so sore, those days are gone since I have slowed down, but I feel I have been lucky so far, I want to see my kids grow, I wanna walk my daughter down the isle. but I dont know how to quit, as of now my only goal is continue to slow down, Im trying to make a can last 2 days now, and then Ill go for 3 days. I know I have rambled on here and I am sorry your poor eyes have read this jumble, but I dont know how else to explain myself, dont know how to quit.

All of the reasons you posted were typed my the Nic Bitch! You are an addict just like the rest of us! There is no secret little pill. There is no magic wand. There is just a serious lack of Quit in your words. It pretty simple, Post Roll, Take it a day at a time and go to sleep. Wake up and repeat! Only person that can do this is you! I have only been on this site for a little over a month now and just have signed on to post roll and thats it. Was just reading some of the intro's and came across yours. It was like I wrote it myself. Im not the one to reach out to others and try and hold your hand, thats just not my style. I was about 18 years in and also went from skoal to copenhagen. I just quit one night, I really dont know why. Went to buy a can and the lady said they were out, I said thats ok I just quit. Never told my wife, by the third day she was ready to leave me as I was being a asshole. Told her I was done and well she liked the idea but hated the mood swings. I also tried gum/patches/coffee grounds. My savior was smokey mountain herbal. I could deal with the nic cravings but the oral was killing me. The first week the mood swings, and I was tired. Falling asleep by 6. After that it gets better, little by little. I guess just do it and be done..

Hey Big. I remember being exactly where you are now. First you need to realize some things.
Nicotine cannot be used to quit nicotine. Gum and patches have never been approved for use to quit dipping. They don't work, only make it harder.
Nicotine never relaxed you, the relief you felt (calm) was simply relief from withdrawal. Nicotine doesn't fix anything but the problems it created in the first place. Stuff isn't a crutch t is an anchor.
Cutting back isn't going to help you either. Your only placing yourself in withdrawal for longer periods of time.
Your an addict. The only difference between you and a crack junkie is your choice of drug.
You need to harden the fuck up. Quit cold turkey and live with the decision. There are a million excuses you can use to go back to the can, they're all bs. Your far from the biggest addict to walk these halls, if we can quit so can you. It isn't that you can't quit, it is that you refuse to. It's actually a hell of a lot easier than you think. You deserve to walk your little girl down the aisle, you deserve to grow old, you deserve to live a life free from a can of cancer.
The only way out is thru. Is short term discomfort worth a lifetime of freedom? You betcha. Grab your balls, grit your teeth, strap on your helmet , and let's get this done.
I promise you this, it can be done. Its worth it. The people here will stand by your side.

Welcome to Kill The Can brother. Your story is all too comman here. In fact it sounds a lot like me. I'm on day 43 quit and fucking proud. This is a cold turkey group. Pickle seeds and strawberry gum help me. But here is what I have done that helps. Start doing things for the first time quit. For example....for me....watching my Broncos play a game dip free. Playing Playstation with my son dip free. Driving home from work dip free. Mowing the grass.....etc....you get the picture. Just little things that gave me momentum and confidence. But work on quit for today. I will not dip today. Wash, rinse...repeat!!!
Find your group and start posting roll every day. The motto here is simple. "Hope is for pussies. Real men Quit!!!"

Here's the deal. I'm a 36 year addict. I will always be a 36 year addict. I can never have another dip as long as i live or that number 36 will get bigger.
50 days ago on Nov 24 2012 I quit cold turkey. I made the decision that I was never going to dip again. 5 days later I found this site. I signed up, read everything on here at least twice, posted roll and have never missed a day posting since.
The guys are right. There is no secret pill to swallow. There is no "method or thing you can do to make quitting easy. The only thing to do is make the committment to quit. Post roll every day rinse and repeat. We do it one day at a time here. I will never wish you good luck. Luck has nothing to do with it. It has everything to do with how bad you really want to quit and the level of committment you have to that quit.
There are alot of guys here who will help you through the tough times. But in the end it is up to you. Are you ready? If you are, post roll, build your accountability by swapping numbers with some of the guys here, especially the one in your April quit group. If you are having a hard time then don't hesitate to call a brother and let them talk you through it. I've done it and so have a bunch of the other guys on this site.

Rest assured, you will try to talk yourself into "1 last dip" a million times today. You will try all your old excuses -
- It will keep me from being an ass to my wife
- It will keep me from eating
- It will allow me to focus on work
- It will let me relax
- It will allow me to sleep
Each time, you will say "no". Count the times it happens today, it will blow you away. Tomorrow, trust us, it will happen less.
Make it through today without a dip, we will worry about tomorrow later.

Big daddy I want to say Copenhagen or any other dip never saved a life! Period!! If you quit, (big if) you will be a Big Asshole, at least for a while hell we all were. But don't take it out on the family, bring it here. I love a good rage fight. I said "if you quit" for a reason, I don't hear commitment or determination or hatred in your words. Now, I have tried countless times to quit, I wanna quit, I wanna quit for my wife and kids and for myself. I have tried the patches and the gum and with no luck what so ever, with the patches I got to the point where I tried wearing 4 of them at once, WIth the Gum I was chewing 3n 4 pieces and chomping on it like I was Mike Dikta. Neither one of them worked, I onced worked myself backwards and the longest I ever gone was 4 days, yeah 4 days, But by that point I was so mean so irritable and had a horrible headache, that my wife is the one that told to go buy a can, I was that bad.
its obvious the nicotine has me, to me I think its also that oral habit, I have to have a rub, always when im driving, when Im mowing the grass, after a meal or when I have to use the restroom. its involuntary, I can fall asleep with a rub in and wake up to no mess, I want to quit, everytime I try and get to a day or 2, somehitng happens, Get stressed out at work, or something, I honestly think that copenhagen has saved alot of lives, many times I have wanted to hurt someone and when I put a rub in, it relaxs me.
To me, smokeless tobacco is the most addictive thing in the world, I have never had problem with anything else, I have quit and do not drink anymore, back in college i did drugs, but had no problem walking away and quitting pot and cocaine. But these cans of copenhagen draw me in like a tractor beam and I cant help it. at one point in the past, I was able to put a rub in my top lip, because my bottom was so sore, those days are gone since I have slowed down, but I feel I have been lucky so far, I want to see my kids grow, I wanna walk my daughter down the isle. but I dont know how to quit, as of now my only goal is continue to slow down, Im trying to make a can last 2 days now, and then Ill go for 3 days.
