Title: Quit Day 2
Post by: CoachW on September 20, 2017, 11:52:00 AM
Hi Everyone, I'm a newbie to the site but have been dipping for 15 to 20 years and decided to quit a few days ago. My last dip was yesterday morning in the shower. I have 4 kids and a wife who are going to be very happy that I have quit, really they already are that I have. I'm 37 years old and want to live as long as I can, that's my main reason for quitting. I also have recently had some high anxiety and I'm not sure why, I'm taking a hard look at my life and making necessary changes to be healthy and quit dipping is one of them. I've been wanting to quit for what seems like forever, telling myself just one more can, or just get through this stressful week but never did. This morning I threw away my half empty tin and haven't had a dip since yesterday morning. I'm not looking back, gonna deal with the tough times ahead and take it one day at a time.

drink lots of water coach, get yourself some seeds, gum, fake chew, or whatever you need to fight the craves. The first few days are going to be rough as you removed the nicotine from your body. We are all addicts here and have been through it so don't hesitate to reach out.

Day 2 has been tough, it feels like the cravings come every 30 minutes or so, which almost feel like panic attacks. I'm drinking plenty of water and chewing some gum. I do have some of Jakes to throw in every once in a while but I dont' want to get hooked on that either...

Hang in there. Don't worry about the fake too much, Coach. Use it as you have to. It's not nicotine, so it's just another tool in your arsenal. If plowing through a can of fake keeps you from stuffing cancer in your mouth, use it. I just passed 250, and really, even the fake stuff is kinda gross to me now. I'll still use it to kill or head off a crave, but I'm going through a can every 2-3 weeks now instead of every day. It might help if you pick a flavor that you've never used before - for me, as a cope longcut guy, Jake's cola flavored stuff and Grinds coffee pouches are just weird. It helps kill a craving, but after five minutes, I'm thinking, "Why am I sucking on this again?" and out it comes.

Lots of water has definitely been helping me. Also just chewing on a toothpick, really anything to keep my mouth busy. Reach out if you need anything, we are all going through the same thing day in and day out

Thanks, I guess Jakes is better than the real thing for now. One day at a time...

That's the Nic Bitch coach. She's got your playbook and she's knows how to get you. She is in the game to win. You know how she wins? She gets that cat turd back in your mouth and she watches you rot and die from cancer coach.
You need to stay strong. Change your game plan. Get numbers from your group and anyone else who you can and call them. I'm quit 1389 days coach and I had to call some folks the other day. That bitch will never stop. She wants you. Bad.
Here's the good news. You can win. Easy. Just quit today. Make your promise and do it for one day coach. It's gonna suck for the first quarter. Maybe even the second. But eventually you'll get to halftime and can take a breath. Weather the storm and stick to the game plan buddy. Thousands before you have done it. You can do it too.

You got this.

Day 4... Last night I slept a little more than the night before, however, I woke up to cold sweats, soaked in sweat but was able to get back to sleep. I'm expecting this to be the new normal for a week or two... Once I got out of bed I was ok, felt like puking and I did dry heave a few times but made it to work and here I am. I can feel the anxiety in my arms and legs, my body craving the nic... This morning at 9am was 72 hours nictoine free. I can't wait to make it to double digits and then to my 100.

Even though I feel slightly depressed and anxious all the time I do feel like I have some thing to look forward to.

Slightly worried about a party I am going to tomorrow night where alcohol will be involved. I don't plan on drinking too much, maybe just one or two beers.

Hey Coach

I had a party last weekend and was freaking out about it being my first one nicotine free. I drank one long neck beer -- really sipped slowly. Then switched over to seltzer / lime for the remainder of the night. I also used the nicotine substitutes just like I use to use snus. So I had the same mouth feel -- and my hands and old habits physical habits were covered. This worked for me.

Stay Tough my December Bro!

Day 7 - things seem to be getting better and better. Sleep is improving slowly but at least slowly. My muscles don't ache as much as they have been. The dry mouth, dry throat and dry sinus' seems to be continuing, same with the sore throat. Cravings come and go, the Jakes helps, the fog remains but I'm hopefully and happy that I'm quit for 7 days, it feels good to tell people that I quit.

I walked right into the store I used to buy my dip at and told them I quit, I even asked the owner if he would start stocking Jakes and he said yes!

Ok, that's about as long as I can focus for now. See ya tomorrow!!!

Glad to be quitting with you today Coach! The fake dip (Smokey Mountain) is really helping me through the rough times right now!

Day 10 - So glad to be here, this has been a focal point of mine for some reason, get to 10 get to 10... Now I'm getting to 14, new goal. I need small goals, to reach for, one day at time is also a goal of mine but to think out ahead of that a little bit also helps me.

I can't say that I'm feeling much better than day 5, still foggy, anxious feeling, cravings are pretty rough and even stronger now. The fake stuff helps with that. Sleep is returning to normal and I have a positive outlook on life in general. Things are heading in the right direction for me right now. Great feeling.

This is truly life or death for me in my mind. I don't want to die young or even die old of cancer, I want to enjoy my life with my kids and family. Every time I have a craving, I tell myself, this isn't as bad as cancer and I'm reminded of the reasons I'm quit and staying quit!

Peace, Love and Quit!

Coach

Day 15! Another small milestone reached for me. Feels good adding to those numbers each day. Still anxious, still having some cravings periodically throughout the day and the acid reflux has kicked into high gear for some reason... My sleep has stalled a little bit but not all that bad I guess. Still waking up after about 5 hours of sleep and then going back to bed. The fog also creeps in and out of my mind, feels a little like tunnel vision and being out of touch in a way.

Using the Jakes to help with the cravings but not nearly as often as I dipped in the past. Maybe a tin every 5 or 6 days of the Jakes right now. I'm really trying not to create another habit but it does help tremendously to fight off a crave.

All in all, it feels great to be 2 weeks quit and I'm looking forward to one day at a time for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the support!

Day 17 and counting, I do feel a little better each day. Some days are worse than others but overall heading in the right direction. The fog doesn't seen so bad this morning and last night was a great night.

Day 20 and the cravings seem to be stronger than ever... anxiety seems to be slowing down and I'm sleeping better. Each day does seem to be better than the last and I'm extremely proud of myself for being quit.

Coach W,

Congratulations on making it to day 21. It is a hard fight and you will keep on feeling the cravings up to your 700s and higher. It is a fact of being a former dipper.

When you are ready to pat yourself on the back and say look how far I have come, then the craves will pop up and scare you. You will think i should be over it. That is why you must remain vigilant forever.

Here are some of my hints that I share to help you continue to be successful:

The main way to be successful is to just decide that you have quit. Once you stop the negotiating in your head as to whether you will do one more or not the rest becomes far more simple.

Next, you will learn to distract your attention from your desire for a dip to anything else that interests you. This ability to change your focus will guarantee your success and make your quit that much easier.

When you place a dip in your mouth, your brain releases sugars. Well, those sugars are now going to be gone.

However, you can replace them with OJ or other fruit juices with sugar. This will provide some comfort, especially in your initial quit days.

Make sure to exercise with weights and cardio when you feel that nagging tension in your muscles, you feel that rage, when you can not sleep and when you can not focus. Exercise really helps.

Here is one that most people overlook. Get at least 3 square meals a day. Hunger can really bring on those urges so squash those urges before they come. Eat full healthy meals and do not let yourself get excessively hungry. You will see this helps a great deal.

I waited until I was 59 quit after using tobacco for 40 years.

I quit with you today.

Day 30! Wow, never thought I'd make it this far. I have to say, it has gone fast. Couldn't have done it without the Jakes and the help and support from people on this site.

Sleep is improving still, almost back to normal. Anxiety has subsided for the most part, still feel it faintly from time to time. The cravings are a little stronger every now and then but seem to be longer and longer in between.

Most importantly, I feel better about myself for being quit. I don't have the constant stress of wanting to quit every day. I am quit, have been for 30 days and feels awesome!
