Hello, I am new and dont really understand how this site works. I could use a little direction on where to go and how to navigate this site. Anyway.. A guy I work with had most of his tonque removed last week in a 13 hour surgery at 38 years old...So after nearly 20 years of chewing I have decided to quit. I am still tapering off at this point but have reduced my chewing by nearly 90%. Any words of wisdom????
-
As far as advice, quit. Tapering off is ok, but make the decision to quit, completely. If you allow yourself to continue doing it, even if it's significantly less, you're less likely to quit. Take it one day at a time. We post roll every morning here to make a commitment to ourselves and our brothers and sisters on this forum that we're not going to use nicotine today.
If you need help or encouragement: reach out to someone. This place is full of people who want to help you succeed in your quit. Send me a private message if you'd like contact info to get ahold of me outside of the forum.

Welcome. We don't taper off here. We don't hope, try or think about quitting.
WE QUIT PERIOD!!!
The only thing you are doing is prolonging the inevitable and torturing yourself. It takes three days for the nicotine to get out of your system once you quit. Then it becomes mental. In no time you will look back and want to kick yourself right in the a@@ for torturing yourself by tapering off. I say this, because I was you 389 days ago. How stupid I was. You can't beat this poison by trying to trick it. You must take it completely out of the equation.
Lets get some quit on my friend. Go to the welcome center at the top left. Begin reading how and why we post roll. Pay particular attention to why. Begin reading everything you can on this site. Begin learning your addiction/nicotine. Learn your enemy it knows you.
You want your life back your going to have to take the plunge my friend. No more games. There is nothing to fear. The water is fine. Jump the hell in, what you got to lose?

Don't "taper" off. Just quit for gods sake. Read the welcome center. Read everything. Post roll ever day. Come on in man. Don't be scared to quit.

Take your can, empty it in the toilet and post roll. Quit now. I'll quit with you. PM me or anyone else here if you have any questions or want to vent to others who have been through and are going through the exact same thing you are. You got this, and we'll help in any way possible.

I look at it this way, if you taper and 1 of your 10% dips is the one that puts you in a position for tongue removal, well then probably should have cut the cord 100%. And so you have it, the KTC creed. No nicotine, read up and learn to post roll, get active, and build support using this thread.
srans is a stud badass quitter and has given you all the direction you need. Suck it all in and read these stories. You will soon learn that, maybe, for the first time in your life there are others out there just like you. Addicts who engaged in pathetic addictive behavior to feed the nic bitch addiction. Get ready to embrace the next 72 hours of no nicotine, it's going to joyfully suck ass. You'll love the notion of being quitÂ…I'm telling you to also love the notion of how bad this sucks now and the promise to yourself never to go through it again. In 3 days, you will be able to look at yourself with different eyes, those of a quitter rather than those of an addict. Quit hard brother.

There should be a link for the video showing you how to post roll, step by step. I had to watch it a couple of times before I understood what I was doing.

Nice one, Dave. Stay with it. I can't put the words together to express how accomplished you will feel in the next few days.
-
Hey Dave! I'm new to this group too. Still trying to figure out how to post roll myself. Spit my last dip of Cope out at 2356 Tuesday the 4th. Like everyone has said, the first 72 hrs suck!! It does get better though. I've been using Jake's Mint Chew to help through the habit. I also mixed coffee grounds with honey. Feels like Cope Fine Cut and the caffeine gives the same zoned-in feeling (I started dipping so I could concentrate while studying) and cuts down some of the irritability. Hang in there!

Post Roll every damn day, keep promise not to use nicotine in any form that day, repeat daily. Take it like everyone here one day at a time. Welcome to freedom, you're gonna have to fight for it but it is worth it! I'll quit with you today

This fucking website is so hard to figure out. I posted a explanation of my first day fuckup on roll call and now its gone. It is nearly impossible to figure out where to go for imformation or how to explain myself. Sorry... Day 2 getting easily irretateted.
Dave here is your intro page. After a few days the irritation of quitting eases and with practice the site really isn't that difficult. I'm a 56 year old that has very little background with computers. Keep posting roll daily and quit one day at a time and before long you will wonder where the time went.

I had the same frustrations as you, then a vet offered his explanation. The site might be set up this way for the simple fact that it keeps new quitters busy trying to navigate their way thru.
Wade is correct, fight through this. The quit and the navigation become easier.
-
Bump this up, was 100% poster, hasn't been online in a few days. Anyone got digits?
-
Traded emails with Electricdave today. He says he's still quit. He told me that posting roll daily is a bigger pain than it was worth given his "very limited computer time" (this email was sent by Iphone btw) I hope he does stay quit but figured it was worth posting this here in case he comes back and just to satisfy anyone who was still wondering.
Dave if you read this I wish you the best of luck.
-
It is my humble opinion that people that call posting roll more hassle then whats it is worth are just dumber than a bag of hammers....if you have the IQ of a third grader and you are on here for more than 3 days it takes about 10 seconds if you are bad at it. If you're good it takes about 5 seconds.
My other opinion on this matter is that those that say its too much of a hassle are saying that quitting is too much of a hassle and we'll see them post day 1 again...or they'll just die with a can in their pocket. And if mr. ed has any issue with what i just said, well i can tell you along with some others that we found it to be too much of a "hassle" to post after awhile...and guess what...i posted day 23 today instead of day 345.

Huh!?
So he can send you an e-mail from his iPhone but can't post roll? Whatever.
Yeah... good luck man.

My sentiments exactly on the Iphone. He will be back when he forgets about his addiction.

'Bigger pain than it's worth'? Posting roll is so much harder than getting your cancer cured. Takes about 1 minute to post from iPhone, I do it all the time. Usually during my morning dump. I hope this guy stays quit or comes back before anything negative happens

He must have it all figured out. Why the hell do people come to the site for help, then leave because they dont want to put in even a shred of effort. Your a fucking punk

Posting Roll is the foundation of our quit. Without it I would still be a slave.
I love it here. Saved my life, period
