Title: New to KTC
Post by: rhamsher on October 01, 2014, 10:53:00 AM
Started day 8 of my quite today after 26 years of use. At 44 years of age I came to the realization that it was much more than a chemical addiction. It was a fear of living life without a habit I enjoyed most of the time.

Not sure how to best use this forum??? Any help would be appreciated!

Use your intro here as your Quit journal. Post roll first thing when you wake up every morning to promise yourself and everyone else that TODAY you are quit. And then keep your promise today. Then do it again tomorrow.

January Quit Group (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/10564902/50/)

Depending on your quit date (you stated 8 days ago?) ... you are either with December (09/23 quit + 100 days = 12/31/14) or January (09/24 quit +100 = 01/01/15).

Your quit group is where you post roll. Get to know these quitters, they'll be your backbone when you feel yours has gone missing. Quitting with you today!

rhamsher,
Well use this forum to quit daily, which means posting roll. Posting roll is your daily promise to quit, it may sound strange to promise on here, but I want you to remember that your promise is specifically for you, shit changes when you type it. So to do this right and so here is how you Post Roll Call (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/1003072/1/#new).

Next when you have time look around on the site there are several tools here, but beyond the people that are tools there are also several helpful items that can help you in your daily quit; I have listed some of the items that I have used and continue to use to reenergize/confirm why I come here daily:
- Words Of Wisdom (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55572/), I dare you to read the Kern story and not tear up
- Wildcard Section (http://forum.killthecan.org/forum/55581/) (place to have fun and laugh)

Beyond that go find your quit group Pre-HOF December 2014 (http://forum.killthecan.org/topic/10503924/447/), this is your quit group because in December of 2014 you will hit the Hall Of Fame (HOF) meaning 100 days of being quit. Get to know other in this group and exchange phone numbers with other quitters, this will become vital and invaluable to you and your quit. Other quitters know what you are and will go through, we have walked this path and know what to expect, plus we know what worked for us.

Also, find an alternative to dipping fake dip, gum, sunflower seeds, cinnamon candies all work well, Patches or nicotine gum is for fake quitters. Also drink lots of water and start thinking about an exercise program because after the euphoria wears off you may start eating more and then creating more of yourself in the process.

Finally, prepare for the worst and never ever rage at anyone but yourself because odds are no one made you dip, you need to remember that you are an addict and you helped cause your addiction.

I quit with you and will be here every step of the way when you need it.

P.S. the above underlined and bold words are links to location here at KTC to help guide you.

Welcome,
You are in the right place. Read everything on the site, get active, post as much as you can and build a network of support.
It is hard to unwind years of addiction but we do it here ODAAT (one day at a time). Post your promise, keep your promise, repeat!

It's mainly a chemical addiction. Look into the science of it. It's evil nasty shit and you're in for a fight. Are you up for it?

Plenty of badass quitters have already formally welcomed you to the fray. Heed their words (Pinched's post is gold), and keep pressing on with this business of staying quit. It's a lifelong battle, but KTC will keep you in the win column if you buy in enough.

I am curious if anyone on hear has experienced the symptoms of Hypothyroid while removing nicotine from your system??? For me it has been a living hell! Much worse than my initial 3 day fog. Went to see my Endo today and adjusted my meds... praying it works!!!

Hey,

I did experience hypothyroid systems when I quit. I probably like you had to get my meds adjusted which takes a few weeks to get straight again. From what I understand its very common when quitting nic.

PM me if I can help with any questions or concerns you may have.

Hang in there.
