Glad you found us @pmfergus !! KTC is a ZERO nicotine site and community. So if you are completely nic free and want to surround yourself with some critical accountability and brotherhood, use the link Dweirick provided and we can get you plugged into a quit group with others who are in the trenches alongside you.Hi I'm PM and I stumbled across this site while searching for reasons not to give in to urges. Found some good stuff here so decided to join.
Im 54 years old and started dipping at 13 while bailing hay (nickel a bail back then). Been doing close to a can a day of kodiak and then grizly for a decade.
Had a toothache that led to root canal and decided it was time to quit.
I quit on July 28th.
On July 29th i could barely hold focus for work. The urges weren't overwhelmingly 'strong', I could consciously deny each individual urge, but they were incessant.
It was a vicious cycle:
Would focus on work
Would have instinct to reach in pocket for chew
Would remind self I quit chew and accept pocket is empty and focus on work
Seconds later would reach for pocket
all day long
At end of work that day I went the NRT path, which Im not sure was the right decision. I am dip free since then, have stepped down from the 21mg step 1 patch to the 14mg step 2 patch. Used some 4 mg lozenges the first 2 weeks but stopped those.
Urges have never been as strong or frequent as the July 29th day, but I am worried as urges have not decreased at all from when I first put patch on.
Not sure if I'm doing this right at all, do not want to fail at all so I am open to thoughts or advice or anything you got that helps me never go back.
Have you been to the Discord portion of this site? Here is the link if you are interested in checking it out! https://discord.gg/H8JWPxWQ Tons of quitters over there, tons of help and resources if you are looking to quit chewing!!
