After 30 years of dipping, I decided I was done. Took the last dip out of the last can, threw away all my spit bottles,  that's that. Now what? I know the nicotine addiction can be a bitch, but it's as much about the oral fixation for me. Like I said, I've done it for 30 years. I spend a lot of time on the road for work... I dip. When I'm working in the yard... I dip. When I'm watching tv/reading/surfing the web... I dip. Just bought 3 cans of Smokey Mountain wintergreen at WalMart. Hoping it helps...
welcome Jfrank, great decision to be quit.
Yes, the oral fixation is part of it, but combined with the addictive properties of nicotine it is about far more than just an oral fixation habit. After 30 years your brain has never been without the drug nicotine, and if your mouth isn't sucking on something your addict brain wants it filled up. Use a non-nic substitute, the fixation part will lessen over time. The key is to work up a serious dislike for nicotine, a drug that stole from your life, made you a slave, a liar.
Welcome to the journey. Many truths will be exposed to you along the way. Stay involved here.
I tried many lip packing products, and settled on sunflower seeds (the pepper ones are really good) and then, I didn't need them anymore. The timing is different for everyone.
For now, just get through the day, and put pebbles in your lip if it helps.. anything but nicotine.
Welcome Frank to the Best of YOUR life!
This will be the hardest thing you have ever done...It will be worth it beyond the description of words. We were not born with the poison in our mouths!
You're in the right place to "be quit".
Stay here, gather your weapons, post roll early in your a.m. and before you know it you quit daze will stack up bigger than Dolly Partons' tits!
You really can be Free from nictotine...ODAAT and NAFAR
Remember: 1 problem + Nictotine = 2 problems.
Keeping my jaw and tongue...I like them.

Welcome to the KTC quit train Jfrank. We are over 17,000 members strong and will support you all the way. What we do is provide you with the tools to quit and help you along that rough patch of track. We will be there for you every step of the way to freedom. We will be there when you are hurting, when you are in the suck, when you feel like raging, venting or just talking to someone on the phone. Around here, we call that Brotherhood.

Joining us means you will do a few things. First and foremost, you will post Roll. You need to post roll today. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the recently opened March 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less. The reason you are put in March is that will be the month that you will celebrate being 100 days free of nicotine.
I dipped for 28 years after a 17 year long horseback ride with the Marlboro Man, so I have a little experience in addiction and now quitting. Look up at the top right hand side of this screen and you will see Inbox (1). Open it and you will see a message from me with my telephone number. Call me with any questions or concerns or if you just need to vent or rage at someone...other than a family member! Welcome aboard. Wayne

I also assumed that the oral fixation was the main issue for me. I mean, I had something in my mouth 100% of the time I was awake for 25 years so it seemed impossible to have an empty mouth.

This ended up be one of my strongest motivators in my quit, I wanted an empty mouth.

I went through only 4 cans of Smokey Mountain, switched to beef jerky and then to gum and mints, after 3 months-an empty mouth is all that I required.
Welcome! I advise you to go to the Welcome Center and read everything. Reading this site gives me peace and the will to do this with the rest of my group. Don't want to let them or myself down. I use fake chew, seeds, gum, and atomic fireballs. I promise every day not to use any nicotine of any kind. I have actually caught myself a few times without anything in my mouth. Amazing! That's freedom!!
Hang in there and do this! It's so worth it and will be the best thing you ever do for yourself.

It's a li'l bit about the oral fixation. Mostly it's about the fact that you're an addict.
Try that on again... YOU are an addict. Nicotine is one of the nastiest drugs you'll ever run into. You can't "hope" to win against it. We don't "try" to win against it. We don't need "luck" to win against it. We... Just do it. Your start was perfect. Throw it all away. Remove everything about it from around you. This is a "no nicotine" sight so whatever you need to do to appease the oral fixation component of your addiction is all good... As long as it contains NO nicotine. Gum, seeds, herbal dips, candy... Whatever works man. It's gonna suck for awhile. No way around it. You chewed for 30 years... Your body and mind has some healing to do. Y'know what though? You can do it! I chewed for 25 years bro. Today is day 222 clean for me. Cold turkey. If I can, you can. Welcome in man. Glad to have you! Pm me if you want my number... I'll help you any way I can. Rock on...
Well, it’s one louder, isn’t it? It’s not ten.

Glad you're quitting. It's real easy here as long as you want to quit. All you have to do is make a promise in the morning, and keep it until your promise the next day. Here you have people that you can promise to. You can do it! It is so worth it!

Great choice my friend. The more I read the more I love this site. We all were slaves to the can. Associating everything we did to whether we could enjoy a dip while doing it. Taking a shit, yard work, etc. It always seemed better with a dip. Well how wrong we were. Without the lying, hiding, denial, and waste of money, everything is better without nicotine. Glad you took charge and glad to be quit with you brother.

J. I'm liking your quit. You just make up your mind to quit and then you strap in and get ready for Hell. Go read this website. Read as much as you can. I still go back and read things for the 100th time.

Post roll in the march 2014 quit group. Everyday post roll and promise you won't touch nicotine in any form that day. We will help you. If you mess it up we will fix it. Just promise to quit. Your honor is what holds us all accountable to quit.

Welcome to being a new free man.
