Hello everyone,

I started my terrible nicotine habit 9 years ago in Iraq, for years I have been poisoning my body and for what? I haven't had a nicotine buzz in 8 years, I was literally addicted to this nasty stuff. I Was sitting at work on 1/16/2016 "googling" websites about information on quitting. I was looking around this site and someone said " You are never ready to quit, you just have to do it" that was probably the best advice I've gotten. My last chew was at 12:30pm on 1/16/2016 I've been looking at this from a different perspective. I am enjoying how bad this sucks I literally laugh my cravings off, because in essence I have no one else to blame but myself for what I put myself through. So this is my bitter sweet hell, It is exciting I think the high of my self perseverance is better from abstaining then from the actual nicotine. Hopefully we can keep knocking this out 1 day at a time!

Alex,

Glad to have you on board man. There never is a perfect time to quit, there is just right now. That is all we really have at the end of the day is just right now. Stay strong as you are getting into the heart of the quit. If you ever need help, check the site or let me know.

Best,

Dustin

Hi Alex and nice to meet you.

Nobody is ever 100% ready to quit. Hell, 4 years ago I watched my 6 year old son pack a can of beef jerky like his old man. I continued to dip for 2 weeks but knew I was ready to quit. The difference between the quit me and the wants-to-be quit me is action (and that's all it is). Everybody signs up to nicotine because of the buzz. We stayed because it was so addictive. We quit because the bad outweighs the good and it's impossible to see that until you experience it.

You, sir, are quitting. It has its ups and downs, but we can help keep you quit. All we ask is that you help us to stay quit. Like I said, I've been here over 4 years quit. I couldn't do this on my own. I have thousands of people here making sure I stay quit. We'll have your back, but you have to have ours. It's that simple.

If you haven't figured it out, check out the Welcome Center. It will tell you what we do. It will tell you how we do it. We post roll (promise to stay quit) each morning. We keep our words. We repeat. You're an April 2016 quitter. Go in there. Make some friends. Kick some ass in this quit. Ask questions. Lean when you need to. Lead when you can. Most importantly, be quit. That's all we ask.
In the end I Surrender, I and I alone accept that I have and always will have a Nicotene ADDICTION. It is my choice to quit, but I can't do it alone. I get to go down this path one time, I want to do it right. I recognize that my word, my integrety to you is on the line and is only as good as my actions. Caving is not an option in this plan-Eafman 7/11

I am not cured. I will quit one day at a time. I will continue to do what works. Posting roll everyday. To do otherwise would be foolish on my part. You can do this-Ready 12/11

Theres a lot of people that come here, especially vets, that WANT to be reminded that they are addicts.-Tarpon 6/12

Alex, that is one bad ass way to start your quit! Important note: ADDICTION, not habit.

The good news is addiction can be beat, one day at a time by going to the April 2016 quit group and posting roll - your daily promise not to use nicotine for 24 hours. Get to know as many quitters as you can, exchange digits and build up a network of support and accountability.

Read around the site, check out the forums for military (past and present) for any special issues from Iraq.

Enjoying the suck, remembering it so you don't have to do it again are good moves. Also drink lots of water, exercise, and bring any quit rage here instead of your family, neighbors, or co-workers.
