Thanks guys! I have almost made it all the way through day one. Ive been using Hooch mint herbal snuff. It tastes ok but doesnt really help. I know it will get better, just cant wait to get there. Take care fellas. I'm gonna go post roll,, if I can figure out how.
Give it three or four days, let the body get rid of all the nicotine in your system and you may find yourself liking the fake stuff more. I found the hooch snuff to be a quit saver in the second and third weeks, when I couldn't get over the oral fixation (giggity). I don't think anything helps that first week except good ole fashioned exercise, water, and heart. Don't give up and keep going!!! We're all here for you!!!
Or you can just use this as an opportunity to get away from the can altogether. THere are differing opinions here, but I wanted the whole dang image out of my life. All of it.... can, spit, fat lip... everything. For me, continuing to pack my jaw seemed like flirting with danger by keeping the habit alive even after the addiction withdrawals had subsided. What if I couldn't find a store that carried fake? Just seemed like a trap to me. Besides, most folks can't tell fake from real, so I figured I'd still LOOK like a dumbass. I chewed through a truckload of sunflower seeds in that first year. Put a ziplock bag full of em in one of your bunker pockets. That saved my quit a couple times on extended calls when several of the other guys were smoking/dipping/chewing.

But, if you need the fake..... carry on. Whatever works, bro.
Mychime..if you have to use fake to stay quit, ok, but you still look like an idiot with a lump. you're just delaying the inevitable. I pondered using fake but it reminded me of the reg crap. used seeds,  gum. Cut the cord, and set yourself free. I'm flying right now...

My dad was happy when I started dipping at age 14. He even hooked me up with a few cans. That's what cowboys do. When he died of cancer,,,I kept on chewing for another ten + years. It wasn't because I was a cowboy. It was because I was addicted to the nicotene.

Welcome, hosedragger. Reread what Wastepanel posted, for it is gospel. If you are who your screen name says, then you know something about brotherhood. We all have each other's backs here. Any time, any place, any method. Via PM, text, or call..... reach out if you need anything or if you have any consideration of ingesting nicotine. Contact somebody here and get permission first. You won't regret it. Get some numbers. Any here are available to you. That's how it works.

You and I have several similarities. After chewing and dipping for 19-20 years, one of my toddlers made me aware that I was failing as a father. I was teaching my kids by example that tobacco use is OK. I pride myself on on being a good dad, but somehow that had slipped under my radar. I fixed it. That was over 2 years ago. There are quitters here that say you can't quit for you kids. I am not one of them. Reach out if you need anything, bro.

Great choice, Leefireman...or leaf fireman? Whatever...welcome brother!

West covered pretty much covered it. Posting roll is the key to freedom. Also, since you mentioned kids, I recommend you read The Tom and Jenny Kern Story. Click on KilltheCan.org link above and it is at the bottom right corner.

Your motivation is, and will always be, your desire to be free. But their story is touching and has been a source of inspiration for me. Cancer pics and dentist scares didn't phase me. But Tom and Jenny's story did.

Stay strong, brother!!!

Today is day one. I just wanted to make a literary pledge that says I am done. I dipped for almost 20 years. I have 2 boys that see me slave to a substance I have preached to them as "the devil". I feel like I am a strong father and husband, but how can I be when I am dependant on something that is killing me. Anyway, I am truly done.
Good for you man.

Now, make that promise stick.

We quit here at the KTC through a 3 step program:

Post roll-We post our promise with our quit brothers. Our brothers are other quitters going through the same shit we are. They are determined by when we quit (your group is the March 2013 group). These brothers will have your back, and make sure that you are not alone in this fight. The vets (and any other quitter on this site) are at your disposal in this fight. We've walked this path before, and chances are if you are going through something, one of us has dealt with it in the past.

Keep your word-Do whatever you can to stay quit. Anything. Read this site. Use the tools it describes. Contribute. Make a quit plan. Live your quit. You can do this.

Repeat-We only ask that you quit one day at a time. After you get through today, come back here tomorrow and I'll tell you what to do then.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, rage, or have fun with this.
In the end I Surrender, I and I alone accept that I have and always will have a Nicotene ADDICTION. It is my choice to quit, but I can't do it alone. I get to go down this path one time, I want to do it right. I recognize that my word, my integrety to you is on the line and is only as good as my actions. Caving is not an option in this plan-Eafman 7/11

I am not cured. I will quit one day at a time. I will continue to do what works. Posting roll everyday. To do otherwise would be foolish on my part. You can do this-Ready 12/11

To overcome your addiction you must comprehend what it means to fail-Razd 3/12

Theres a lot of people that come here, especially vets, that WANT to be reminded that they are addicts.-Tarpon 6/12

Just as a building starts with architectural drawings. Your daily quit begins with a promise.-Scowick 2/13

Here and now, focused on today, minute by minute, whatever it takes, I promise to all my bros and myself not to become a negative stat and stay quit!-krok 1/15

I want everyone to be quit. Even the assholes.-Probe1957 1/18

Ignoring history or erasing history fixes nothing and leads you inevitably down the same path.-69franx 04/30/2021
