Shawn,

Welcome! I have freaked out because of odd sensations in my mouth, an irritated throat, an upset stomach... I was so constipated once I was sure it was a colo-rectal tumor. Everything has checked out...

51 days is awsome! I remember about that time I was getting setteled into my quit and started feeling I could sneek just one more dip and still be quit. Don't listen to this addict logic. You are quit, for good, no more nicotine, EVER.

Finally, listen to the "mediacl professional" 'crackup' 'crackup' 'crackup' he samrt... 'crackup' 'crackup' 'crackup'

Right now there are likely two things going on that could be leading to, or at least contributing to this issue.

First, your tongue was likely completely numb before. At this point, it is likely that the sensation is coming back. Therefore you are beginning to feel again where you previously were not. It's like when your arm or leg is asleep...at first, you just know that it is very numb...it's when it starts improving that it becomes really uncomfortable.

Second, you are hyperfocused on the issue. Everything will seem worse...wherther it is or not. As a medical professional, I have to tell you, TRUST your dentists and tech - ALL of the ones you went to. They aren't hiding anything from you.

Now, all that being said, keep coming on here. Post up when you are worried, concerned, SCARED. Most of us have been there. Also, there might be times when we are assholes and say all kinds of mean, nasty things - but when it comes to a brother or sister being scared, it isn't a joking matter or the reason to slam them. We are here for you. All you have to do is keep promising every day to keep the crap outta your mouth and you have our support.
Blah...Blah...Blah...You keep TALKIN....I'll keep QUITTIN

I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to support YOUR quit.

BigThib,

Welcome and congrats on quitting and coming clean with your family. Don't freak out about the numbness...at least for now. That crap that we all put in our mouths is so heinously poisonous that it easily could be causing you to have some strange things going on. if it persists after six months, then perhaps you investigate further.

Anyway, welcome and don't forget to post roll every day!

BTW, I used to live in Lower Burrell, PA. I thinks that's fairkly close to Sewickely.

Welcome and congrats on your decision. I had numbness and tingling on my tough for several months before and after I quit. I still have it occasionally. My dentist said it was most likely destroyed nerve ending in my tounge due to dipping.

I can't say that specificly happened to me, but I went about 3 days without sleeping. I think I developed night vision there for a while. I also had dip dreams so real that I had to get up, turn on the bathroom lights and examine my mouth to make sure. I also couldn't spell my own name for a few days...but I've never been a strong speller.

Relax...you did the right thing getting examined. Day 51 is fucking awesome. Enjoy the ride of recovery. The Nic Bitch doesn't give up her victims without a fight. Good thing we're badass quitters, huh?

Hello Everyone,

My name is Shawn Thibodeau and I live in Sewickley, PA (just north of Pittsburgh). I would like to take the time to introduce myself and tell you my story. I am originally from the state of Maine, married to a beautiful woman and have two beautiful children (7 year old girl and 2 year old boy). I have been dipping off and on for the past 20 years. When I met my wife 10 years ago, she asked me to quit dipping and I agreed. About one month into my quit, I caved and never looked back until December 5, 2011 when I noticed a lump on the roof of my mouth. I had the lump examined by my dentist and she said it looks like a clogged salivary gland and not cancer. She did however perform a full oral cancer exam and told me that everything looks normal. Two weeks after my oral cancer exam, I noticed that I had this weird sensation on my lips and my tongue and proceeded back to my dentist for a second oral cancer exam. After the exam, she said everything is normal and there is no cancer. To give me a piece of mind, she refered me to an oral surgeon for a second opinion. At this point I think I must be going nut because my dentist has done two oral cancer exams and has found nothing wrong and now I am going to an oral surgeon for a second opinion (WTF). The oral surgeon completed a full examantion of my mouth and told me my mouth is normal and to stop worrying. When I asked him about that weird sensation on my lips and tongue, he told me that I am probably so stressed out about cancer, that it's all in my head. Could I actually be going nuts? I must be because I went to see a different dentist who uses a special tool called a velscope to assist in the oral cancer exam. Both the dentist and hygenist each performed a visual exam and with the velscope and both came back with the same conclusion, everything is normal. I am on day 51 of my quit and I am still feeling this weird sensation on my tongue (not on the lips anymore). Could I be causing this sensation on my tongue, or could the dentists and oral surgeon missed something? When I finally quit on December 5, 2011, I finally came clean and told my wife that I had been still dipping. She told me that she knew that I still did it and she wondered how long it would take me to come clean. I lied to my wife, kids, friends and family and now I am 51 day quit. To this day I still experience that weird sensation on my tonque. Has anyone ever experienced this?
