My rereference to habits is refering to the habits I have formed for when I used to chew (After eating, while watching tv, playing video games, etc) I personally think these will be the hardest to change after making my addiction habit forming! ]

Drains,

We all had to conquer our triggers and "relearn" to do all those thngs we "had" to have a dip in while doing. Just know that you CAN do it. Just worry about quitting for today and follow the KTC plan and it will work.

One of the old jokes around here is how STUNNED you'll be when the lawnmower starts without you having a dip in! Well it will start and you won't need that crap in your face to do it. Just like you won't need it after you eat or to watch TV, etc. Get some fake dip, sunflower seeds, atomic fireball, gum - anything except nicotine and you'll be good.

Take advantage of that inability to sleep. Read up on the website and see how others are kicking a$$. It took me a while to get back into a normal daily battle rhythm. This is normal and part of getting nicotine out of your system. You filled your body with poison for years - it takes a bit to get it out of you. You are in the middle of the suck and it is called that for a reason. Fight thru this. You can do it!
Yes, as we say in these parts, embrace the suck. Think of it this way, the more it sucks, the better for you. Why?...because the deeper the scar it will burn in your memory, a scar that will remind yourself never to put yourself through the suck ever again. I promise and we all promise, it will get better.

Once that fog lifts and you can turn around and look at the silhouette of an active user left behind in your contrails of quit...the feeling of freedom will overtake you. And man, what a feeling that is.
Not sleeping means you are healing. Stay strong and stay close to the KTC. The LIVE chat feature was helpful to me early on in my quit.
Some of my fondest and clearest memories are peeing in places that aren't bathrooms.

Thank you for your service. Tuco nailed it, it's an addiction. I wrestled for weeks calling myself an addict before I accepted the truth, but as they say, the truth will set you free.

I see your roll call post, but your month is February, not January.
Thumblewort,

Thanks for letting me know! 'facepalm''

On top of work and my chew cravings I must have miss clicked or didn't read write!
Fucking up roll posts is a right of passage here. I could give two shits if you fuck it up daily for the next week just as long as you are here to quit and you fuck up roll daily.

I look forward to seeing your Roll Post tomorrow.

Hello,

I have been chewing for roughly 6 years, I have tried to quit many of times to only be pulled back in by the grizzly. I have decided that today is the day to finally put an end to the disgusting habit. It has been something I have wanted to do for awhile but enough is enough. I'm leaving the US Air Force in January and I need to kick the habit by then! I'm hoping KTC can be the edge to finally help kick the habit!!
Welcome to KTC. I have to point out one major item in your words though. You reference this as a habit; it is an addiction. Way to decide to nut up and quit. You will quickly notice several current and ex-military members are here, we are all addicts too.

Now get your ass in here and start doing this right (all of the below words that are bold and underlined are links to this website).

Step 1 - Post Roll and here is How to Post Roll, here is why we post roll; then post roll daily as early as possible. This is your promise to you and all of us that you are quit today (only today though).

Step 2 - Read all that you can read (sorry no books on tape), here are some of my personal favorites: Kern's Story, Randy's story, Sean Marsee's story

Step 3 - get to know your fellow quitters, exchange numbers and help them while they help you; this path is long and windy don't do it alone

Step 4 - drink lots of water, it helps flush the system and keeps your mind off the shit (warning you will piss a lot if you di this right)

Step 5 - find an alternative (fake dip, candy, toothpicks, testicles slammed in a desk drawer); anything that works and does not include tobacco or nicotine is good by us

Step 6 - do more than the minimum around here, the minimum is posting roll. Tell jokes, share stories, go to chat, etc.

Step 7 - prepare for the worst, you will have rage, you will be foggy, you will hate everyone...focus your anger on where it should be; you are an addict because of your choices, be mad at you and build the new you at the same time

Step 8 - make no excuses but buckle down and own your quit and admit your mistakes

I will never wish you luck because luck is for pussies, but I offer you my hand to help you along this journey.

Pinched,

You are correct it is an addiction. An addiction that I used to love and have grown to hate. My rereference to habits is refering to the habits I have formed for when I used to chew (After eating, while watching tv, playing video games, etc) I personally think these will be the hardest to change after making my addiction habit forming! Thank you for the links!

Welcome.

First thing's first. Go post roll in the February 2015 quit group. Posting roll is the price of admission here and is a promise you make to yourself and the rest of us that you will not use nicotine in any form today. As long as you are a man of your word, you will have taken the option to use nicotine completely off the table. Tomorrow, you'll come back and do the same thing, first thing.

Couple more things:

1) We quit one day at a time here. There is no forever, just today. It's a lot more manageable to think in terms of being quit for 24 hours rather than some abstraction of forever. Forever happens one day at a time.

2) This isn't a habit, it's an addiction. You are a nicotine addict and you will never be "cured". From now until the day you die, you will be a nicotine addict which is precisely why you can never have "just one" again. Fortunately, you have all of the power and control to decide to no longer be an active addict. That's a crucial distinction.

3) Read up as much as you can on the site. Get involved with your new quit group. Swap digits with your new quit brothers. Make plans on how you're going to deal with the craves and triggers that you will encounter. Drink plenty of water. If you're a drinker, lay off the booze for a while. Keep a stockpile of seeds, gum, candy, chewing sticks, fake dip, whatever.

The next few weeks especially are going to suck, but you can absolutely do this. Better to embrace the suck, since this will be the last time you ever post up a Day 1, right?
