Dear Professor,

I know what you mean--I'm also a professor at a major university, and was a serious
secret dipper. It's easy to hide around work--nobody has any idea what you are doing.
It's also easy to go work at home.

I found this site and quit--just past 100 days. It was so nice to realize that I
could sit at work with my door open and not worry about where the can was in my office.
If you are here, you know that you have to quit--so get it done.

If you get in trouble, come on the site and post--these guys will help you out.

PM me if you need anything.

You definately are in the right place man, many of us here are in the medical field and had the same problem with not having anyone to support or even acknowledge our attempt to quit. Dipping is often a secret torture that dippers carry with them wherever they go. If you have ever changed your plans for something simply because of dip then you know what I mean. I have had to get up at a nice restaurant and pretend to go to the bathroom just to spit a dip out prior to the meal being served. I have had to fake a cough in bed when my wife leaned over and wanted a kiss just because I knew she would taste/smell my dip. It is wonderful being Free and the only challenge of this site is to stay Nicotine free for today, one day at a time. Welcome to the quit!
One day at a time.

You will quickly find you are not alone here. I am a high school counselor and no body knew I dipped at work for 10 years. Welcome aboard

You're in the right place friend. Buckle down and get this shit done and over with. We know the slavery and abuse nicotine can ravage upon your soul, mind, and body. Sign up, post roll, get invovled. You'll come to know some of the finest friends you could ever meet. The ones that will save your face and your life. B)

Time to get schooled
« on: December 11, 2008, 06:15:00 PM »
Greetings. I am a 31 year old college professor at a well-known, religiously-oriented university in northern Indiana. I started dipping regularly about 4 years ago, while working on my doctoral dissertation. In the stress and solitude of writing papers for hours each day, I found that chewing gave me something to do and helped to ease some of my anxiety. Lately, IÂ’ve been going through about a can every two to three days. As you can imagine, there arenÂ’t many people in my line of work that share my addiction. In fact, most of my friends and colleagues donÂ’t even know that I chew, so itÂ’s been hard for me to find support in quitting. In an effort to conceal my problem from other people, I spend a lot of time working at home, in isolation. After trying unsuccessfully to quit several times during the past year, I decided to come to you for help. Maybe IÂ’m the one that needs a lecture.
