I quit nearly 2 months ago.
I dipped for nearly 5 years... almost a can a day for the past 3.
It seems that nearly every day I'm finding something new and disturbing going on in my mouth. It started off with a sore tongue... inlamed around the edges and hurts against my teeth. This has been happening on and off every few days... there one day, gone the next. More recently... in the past 2-3 weeks... my tongue is experiencing a scalloped tongue (at least that is abit what it looks like on google...) where it is taking the form of my teeth impressions occasionally. It forms little bumps that get sore against my teeth. I can also feel them. They come and go every other day or so...and I have 2 on each side in the exact same spot.
I've had a small bump on my cheek for idk maybe a month... i thought it was nearly gone the other day when all the sudden it got large over night and painful. now it has nearly disapeared a day later.
For a week or so, I've had a bump on the upper inner side of my cheeks near my cheek bones. One on each side, exact same spot. Hadnt really bothered me till today when i used scope mouthwash and thought it was going to explode...got irritated then swoll up for a bit. has gone down in the past few hours. They are about same color as my cheek...and are about size of a pea now... not super hard kind of squishy.
Then, today I pulled my lip down and searched around and found that on my lower lip there is red patchy area.. not painful.. roughly where I used to dip. (Freaking out..)
I've read that stress can lead to mouth problems as well as diet. I do admit I've gone under a ton of stress lately... New Job, Broke up with Girlfriend a couple months ago (together for 5 years) DUI a couple weeks ago, Thinking I'm dying constantly or have some STD?, and just quitting tobacco in general.I've heard a lot of people have mouth problems when they quit... but mine seems to be exploding. Any thoughts?
Also, I went to the dentist when my conditions were just starting... he seemed to think the side of my tongue being red and swollen was due to a sharp tooth... and filed it down. The swelling went away but seems to be back now. I feel like im in a constant battle with myself and I'm so stressed out. I dont know whether to go back to dentist or find a doctor?
I've been doign Smokey Mountain chew constantly since I quit... and went through a ton of sunflower seeds... but havent had any in a couple weeks. Maybe the amount of sugar in there explains my tongue?
I've been trying home remidies to help... Warm Salt Water / Hydrogen Peroxide / Oil Pulling with Coconut oil / and an extremely high Vitamin Diet... I heard lack of b12 and b vitamins cause scalloped tongue.
Please Help if you have had similar experiences
Welcome aboard dude.
First things first, and someone will give more detailed instructions, but this site is a brotherhood, andvthe price of admission to this brotherhood is that you post roll daily with your group. Learn how to post roll. I thought it was lame and unnecessary when I joined KTC but I posted the first time under peer pressure. It isn't lame... trust me.
Mouth/tongue problems are very very common with new quits. Your mouth has been under assault from hundreds of chemicals for years and now is recovering. Anxiety from your brain not getting its fix if a powerful neurotoxin is amplifying what is probably a very normal reaction. The seeds and salt are compounding everything... and making you worry a lot.
If I were you... I would...
1. Post roll. And read about why posting works.
2. Take a deep breath.
3. Probably not use salt water. The seeds are already kinda giving you a seawater mouth st the moment.
4. Sit back and pat yourself on the back for being a winner at something that you lost at for a long time.
5. Spend a lot of time this weekend on this website. Get some contact names/numbers. Know your enemy and learn here how to win.
6. Mid to late next week, if you are still worried, go to the dentist. It won't hurt to do that... BUT... before doing that, it is important that you start immersing yourself here... building relationships, trust, posting roll...because a good dentist report without a good quit plan can quickly result in a mouthful of dip on the way home from the dentist.
You can do this sir. You can keep being a winner. Post roll. Keep your word. We will help.
