hi MSymonds,
Glad you could make your "get your life back" appointment. You did have an appointment, didn't you? You didn't arrive here by accident....you were looking for help with your "gotta have a pinch" urge....
Well, you're gonna get alot of support and hear alot of shit that is 100% true cause we ain't sellin' nothing, we're just quittin' nicotine.
It is real simple here:
post roll when you wake up in the morning (earlier the better), Keep your promise, get to bed, wake and REPEAT. See how simple it is....Welcome to hell brother. I said it is simple, not easy. It is far from easy and the 1st week is the hardest (for me anyway I am day 14).
Read everything on this site, all the links, subjects. Bury your ass here as long as you can everyday.
oh before i forget. You're an addict just like me. You're not allowed any nictotine gum, patches or even a little pinch. you have to BURN YOUR BRIDGES, DESTROY THE PILINGS, SO THE NIC BITCH CAN'T REBUILD.
You see, the can is the big nic bitch, the sissy patches and gum are the little nic bitches. Kick them all in the teeth, flush them down the toilet, destroy anything/everything dip related. Quit now, quit today. You can do this MSymonds. If I can, YOU can. Get quit now.
30isEnuff is right.
"My wife just doesn't understand what it's like to just give up."
Neither did mine. She was hurt that I didn't love her enough to quit for her. She was shocked when my kids pleaded with me and had an intervention that I didn't quit for them.
Oh every time, I thought, "This shit isn't worth it, this is my last can." It never was.
I am 86 days quit today and so intrigued with how great I feel to be quit. It hasn't been an easy road, but it was easier to control my addiction vs. hide it from everyone.
Are you sick of tobacco running and ruining your life? Do you wonder why you still use it when it is no longer fun and you really don't want it? If you are wanting to quit because you are guilty but still worship the drug, you will fail yet again. You see, you are an addict. Addicts have to be the ones that want and desire to be done. You can't quit for God, your wife, your job. Nothing is more important to your desire to quit except you. Are you selfish enough to do this for you? If you are, then you can quit.
You will need your wife to support you. She doesn't understand because it sounds like she isn't an addict. When you quit, post roll and then print out the article on how a spouse can support a quitter. I gave that to my wife. I also send her weekly emails to let her know the struggles and successes of staying quit. She didn't understand how hard it was but she loved that I was so determined. My sex life is fantastic BTW. Almost 21 years of marriage and she treats me like George Clooney! She probably thinks of him in the act but I don't care It is a fun roll in the hay.
Finally the need for a pinch. Anything nicotine free is acceptable to stay quit. I wrestle with the term, "Need" for a pinch though. It is a want for a pinch but if you don't do it and restrain, you wont die. So you need to breathe and you want a pinch.
I wanted a pinch but went cold turkey. I did use some Aussie licorice at times but I didn't ever want it to appear that I was dipping so I stayed away from the fake stuff.
If you want a pinch, shredded carrots, Shredded beef jerky, smokey mountain etc. If it isn't nicotine, do what you must to stay quit. Alcohol is a huge trigger to a cave it is recommended that you abstain from alcohol for the first 50 days while your brain rewires.
