This is classic addict,

Guy lost a tooth because of dipping!! Thinks about not quitting until the fake shows up. ( excuse to keep using) . Has a moment of clarity after lurking on the site and flushes two cans.........then disappears.

Prolly stuffing his face with cherry flavored cancer right now. Waiting for his fake. Which he will decide doesn't work and go back to dipping inside a week. You don't need fake to quit, you just need to put the can down and DECIDE not to pick it up again. There is no magic bullet. But it isn't as hard as you think either.

Every reason you give yourself to not stop "yet" is just an excuse. There is no good reason to continue to do something you hate. You don't get a buzz so whats the point? Just like all addicts you need your drug to stay "well" or feel normal. This guy is just like a meth junkie covered in sores, saying just one more bump. Eventually the just one more will become the last before I die.

If you didn't use tobacco, you would feel normal all the time.

Nicotine only cures the problems it created.

Despite your teeth falling out, I am sure your fine. I mean. I'm pretty sure that cancer takes a break while it waits for your fake to show up in the mail right?

NOW IS THE ONLY TIME TO QUIT.

This may be the most powerful thing I have read on this site.

Welcome JJ. You have made the best decision of your life! You will find all the support you need here. But it is ultimately up to you to keep that shit out of your mouth. I believe you will find that your new quit brothers and sisters will go to great lengths to help you but they will not accept excuses or bullshit! We have all heard it before. If your word means anything to you then post up EVERY day EARLY and then you will not have the option because you have given your word. If you need help ask for a number and you will get many quitters providing you with one on one help. You can do this my brother, I did it after 24 years of daily dipping so can you!

..... and hopefully for the last time, used my fingernail to open a can of dip. I flushed them, and I am quitting.
Excellent choice! The responses below have set forth the plan you need to follow. I only have one comment: that "hopefully" attitude has got to go. I know you probalby meant nothing by it, but it's just an indicator that you haven't quite got your attitude right yet. We don't hope, try, or want on this site. We DO. We quit. Let me know if you need my help.

Around 6:00 pm last night I went to pick up two more cans of Kodiak, and some Arbys. While I was eating my roast beef I bit into something hard. Turns out half of one of by back teeth broke off. Tried not to panic, but I know what the cause was. 20 years of dipping, 2 cans a day. I immediatly went to the internet and stumbled onto this website. I ended up spending about 3 hours reading everybodys posts and decided to do this. I linked from this website and ordered some Jakes mint chew, as some people suggested. I told myself as soon as it comes in I will quit. I then logged off and did a dip. I then felt my tounge going from adjusting the dip, to feeling the back of my mouth where I now have half a tooth. I was disgusted with myself. After pacing back and forth, with two unopened cans in my pocket, trying to find the nerve, I finally went to the bathroom, and hopefully for the last time, used my fingernail to open a can of dip. I flushed them, and I am quitting.

When can I start the group? Do I start tomorrow morning and do I put day 1? I will need alot of help, I have never gone longer than a day without it. Tomorrow is going to be Hell, but worth it.
Welcome to the rest of your life! Great decision! I dumped 1.5 cans myself, and have found that decision to have been the toughest part (for me... Everyone's quit is different).

Now that the decision has been made, you have to get serious as a heart attack. Post roll every day, first thing. Literally as soon as you possibly can. It is your promise that you'll stay nic free for the rest of the day. After you post roll, all you have to do is fight to keep your word. It's a brutal battle a lot of the time, but you have hundred of people here at your side.

Speaking of the folks here, you need to do a couple things...

1. Get phone numbers of some vets and some people in your quit group. Thayer can help you fight through a really tough crave.
2. Read this site a ton. This is what has gotten me over most of my craves. Just being here keeps me from losing my mind.
3. Get involved with the community. Post your thoughts, jump into the live chat... make friends.

Let me know what I can do to help. I'm proud to be quit with you!

Most things worth doing require some effort.....

This is the most worthwhile cause of your life....

I am just like you....an addict. I survived...you WILL survive. Read, Learn and follow the path that has been beaten down.

Post roll first thing each morning.....realize you are looking me in the eye and shaking my hand....giving me your word.

I am doing the same.....I assure you, for so many reasons you will figure out....

I will keep my word.

I expect you to do the same....we got this...together.....today.

We'll worry about tomorrow in the morning.....focus on today.

Welcome JJ,

If your last nicotine hit your body 5/25 then today is day 2, otherwise it is day 1. You can do this.

Glad to be quit with you

Bravo! Best decision you could make, trust me you won't regret it.
Yes, tomorrow is going to suck balls. And so will the next and the next. But after 72 hours the poison is out of your system and its all head games.
I was where you are now 71 days ago, you can totally do this and after a month it gets better.
Last can I opened was a can of whoop ass.

JJMILLER: You are making the right decision to quit, and the best way to quit is start now by posting roll daily and taking it one day at a time the first few days are going to be the suck! HELL DAYS!!!! But it begins to get better as the quit progresses! Drink water, exercise, chew big red chewing gum, anything to keep that turd out of your piehole! POST ROLL DAILY, TAKE YOUR QUIT ONE DAY AT ATIME= KEY TO SUCCESS!!!!! NICO 'bang head' 'Remshot'
