Day 3 was my worst day, then it all started getting better. I quit with you today.

Hello all, been trying to quit for the last few months. 27 now and I've been chewing since 13..... Sadly. I quit two days ago and decided to see a dentist. Now listen here boys, IF YOU GUNNAR CHEW STAY SEEING YOUR DENTIST!! My dentist told me I have Smokeless tobacco keratosis. A "pre cancer" of sorts. Anyone else ever been diagnosed with this. If it doesn't go away with in a few weeks of my quit date they gotta do a biopsy. I'm hoping this is something that just disappears like good ol gatorlip. Funny because I've watched countless videos and read hundreds of studies where snuff doesn't directly correlate with increased risk of oral cancer.... What a load of BS. Get back to me boys.
I'm pretty sure Mr. Devin-Dip-A lot posted this in the wrong place. I see he has an intro already and this post of his on your page is a copy of it.
Stay quit Brother. Use the tools on this site. WUPP - WAKE UP, PISS, POST EDD- EVERY DAMN DAY

First I appreciate the links to "What to expect" and "Symptoms".

Just a little more background on me.

I started using Skoal when I was a freshman in High School in Kansas and I made varsity wrestling, my teammates all upperclassmen chewed, so I figured why not?. I have literally been chewing a can/day since that day in 1997.

I have been married for 11 years and my wife has never asked that I quit. I have 2 children (4 and 1 years old).

I live in NYC.

Like I mentioned in my post yesterday, a family member was checked into rehab and I have since read multiple books on addiction. Reading the book caused me to come to the conclusion that I should probably quit. 2 weeks ago I decided that I would "Cut back": 3 dips/day all for a 1/2 hour each. Honestly it didn't feel like cutting back, so last week I decided to go with 1 dip every 12 hours (9:30am and 9:30pm) for a 1/2 hour each. Over the weekend, I thought I was sick(dizziness, headaches etc.) and I decided to Google symptoms of Chewing Tobacco Withdrawal, which lead me right to this site.

I read several pages and said "why am I fucking around?" and have gone all in on this process full cold turkey.

My wife is unaware that I have decided to quit, she didn't even know I was cutting back(though she has to have an idea because I always had dip in my mouth). Matter of fact, I have told no one except you fine people here.

I had trouble sleeping last night and when I was asleep I had some crazy and vivid dreams. This morning I was definitely in a foul mood and found myself unnecessarily barking at my children. I kept reminding myself not to take it out on anyone. So far I have been sucking on starlight mints and drinking green tea - they both seem to be solid replacements(mints orally and tea chemically). I already drink tons of water(I've had kidney stones twice and no interest in going down that path again) so I'm not sure if there is anything else?

From what was presented in earlier links the next couple days are really going to suck....
hey brother - welcome to the right place. I started at age 15 in Kansas too! still live in KC and am 144 days quit today. I feel better each day and week. and you will go through some rough spots no doubt, but the freedom is worth it. so hang tight. feel free to come in here to KTC to FUCKING RAGE as I did many times. Your loved ones didn't put you in this spot. you did. (and maybe the friends that passed you the can back at the wise age of 15)

but I will be the first to tell you that you might as well go ahead and share the good news with your wife. she should be there to support you too.

go get some sunflower seeds, gum, mints, toothpicks. buckle down. no alcohol for at least a couple weeks. and half your caffeine.

welcome - quit with with you today.

Hey Melted1 -

Today is my first quit day. Similar to you I had my last dip this morning on my way to work. I've been chewing for the past 10 years, and finally decided that its time to stop. Luckily through the support of other members of KTC, I'm hopeful that KTC will allow me and all others to quit for good!

You'll do great. Day 8 for me. But I had a day 8 many years ago too. This time was 14 yrs of Cope. And everything I read was right. After day 3, the crawling out of your skin stops. Most of my withdrawal issues are gone and I feel great pulse dropped from low 70's to mid 50's. That's good. Hang in there. People are tougher than cans of chopped up worm dirt.

Welcome aboard brother.

First order of business is for you to go find your quit group and post roll.

With a quit date of today that'll put you in the November Quit Group, so you'll wanna go here:

topic/11721588/33/#new

Posting roll is a bit of a pain in the ass until you get used to it but here are the instructions:
Quote
Instructions for posting roll:
1. Quote the LATEST roll post.
2. Left click the bottom box.
3. Ctrl + A
4. Ctrl + X
5. Left click in the top box.
6. Ctrl +V
7. Add your name and number of days to the BOTTOM of the Bad-Ass Quitters section.
If you can't figure all of that out, just go post SOMETHING in your quit group and the guys will take care of you.

Other than that, buckle in because the first couple of days are going to be rough.

There's a lot of good information on this website to help you with the cravings and withdraw symptoms you're going to have to battle:

http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/wha ... t-dipping/

http://www.killthecan.org/your-quit/sym ... -dip-chew/

I found that drinking a TON of water, as well as chewing gum and spitting sunflower seeds helped me most.

Welcome aboard.

^^^
Solid advice given there, read up and get ready to work for it.
My story is similar to yours, started chewing when I was 15, and tried to quit for years but this site is the secret sauce.
See you on roll

Hello, I'm 35 and I've been dipping since I was 15.

Due to a family issue I have been reading a lot of books on addiction and figured it was time to kick mine.

The last dip I had came at 9:30 ET this morning and that will be it going forward, any guidance is appreciated.
