Hi all. My name is Justin. After 22 years and a can a day I quit. After 2 days of reading your site I decided for myself I was done. It was right after reading the Kern's story actually. It was 2:15 pm December 10th to be exact. I looked at my wife and said come with me and we dumped out 4 tins together. Now: help please!!
This guy went from this quote to posting roll 100% of the time and now is free of nic on DAY 72. What a great feeling !!! ;Ironman:
That is awesome, Justin. Seems like there was a pre-HOF, but post fog funk that set in at about Day 60-80 for me. The Nic Bitch tried to get me to rationalize that I proved that I could quit if I wanted to, so no harm in just having one occassionally. Oh, the mind of an addict!!! IGNORE THIS SHIT That is fail-speak. ODAAT and NAFAR are what you should focus on. Also, develope a strong hatred for all things nicotine. Keep your resolve!!!

Welcome to KTC BBQer. Nice job of reading the materials and posting roll as well. Roll is your daily promise to yourself and all of your new brothers and sisters that you will not use tobacco in any form that day. You will post your name and the number of days you are quit each day in the March 2014 quit group. Each and every day you will post your promise. No exceptions. That is the price of admission to KTC. Nothing more and nothing less.
Now, look up at Inbox(1). Open it and you will find a message from me with my telephone number. Put it in your phone with the others you will get from your KTC brothers in March quit group. This is your lifeline. Use it and call those numbers whenever you feel tempted to use nicotine...or just to shoot the shit. We call that brotherhood. Congrats on making this the best decision of your life. Wayne

Congrats on a great choice, BBQ!!! Quitting is done ONE DAY AT A TIME. That is all that matters...just getting through today. We'll deal with tomorrow when it gets here. Welcome, brother!!!

The Kern story is gut wrenching. I couldn't even read the whole thing at first. It took me 2 weeks to bring myself to read that whole story. You'll find many more postings along the way to keep you motivated. Keep reading, this site is full of first hand accounts. The people are here to support you.

I eat a lot of sunflower seeds. For the first 3 weeks I didn't go anywhere without seeds. I keep them on my nightstand.

There's tons of people on here who've been quit for hundreds and even thousands of days. They got there by counting one day at a time. That's how you quit this shit long term. ODAAT.

Stay strong!

  • Interests: I'm an ol' country boy from Texas: where I started dipping in the 8th grade over 37 years ago. The US Navy brought me to SO CAL in 1985. I got married to So CAL girl and remained here after I got out of the Navy. I love the outdoors; camping, hiking, hunting and fishing but mostly I love to do wood working. I guess now that I am not wasting money on crap I can have more to do the things I like to do.

Justin,
Welcome to KTC. I see that you have already posted roll with the Pre-HOF March, 2014 group. Huge Kudos on that.

I am glad to hear that you reached your decision and then asked your spouse to dump the cans with you. You will need her support, but first you have to want wit which it looks like you do.

Prepare fro every day with an alternative to dip. You will get cravings at the most inopportune time, so prepare for them ahead of that time.

Exercise works great as well as drinking mass quantities of water, and for some reason cinnamon candies seem to work fantastically.

Do what you can to control anger and realize that you are an addict because you chose to be, no one else is to blame nor should they be the target of your anger or rage. When you get that pissed off or close to a boiling point, get on here, go into chat, or exchange phone numbers with a fellow quitter. This will all prove to be priceless to you. Yell at us, we get it and most of us quitters love that because it helps us remember when we were at that stage in out quit.
