Use the fake dip. Why not. You are quitting nicotine - the stuff that wants to kill you. You aren't - at least right now - quitting habits like oral fixation of having stuff in your mouth. You can quit that laterÂ… if you want.
I am just two days quit. Fake stuff is a lifesaver for me. I am trying different brands, flavors which makes it more interesting and tolerable.
I have looked for the fake stuff but I can't find it anywhere. It probably has something to do with me being out in the middle of nowhere and only having access to a couple gas stations. So far sunflower seeds and gum has helped, along with doing as many push-ups and sit-ups I can possible do at a time. I feel like shit, but I feel better than yesterday. At this point I can't do anything but take it one day at a time, or even 5 minutes at a time. There aren't "cravings" there is THE craving that won't go away. At best it is at the edge of my thoughts, and at times like now it consumes my thoughts. But I won't cave. I am never going to go through this again.
Remember , right now it is a all out war and should be addressed as such. the first few day bring out all your guns. Exercise, drink water till you pop, meditate, pray. Understand there is something else in control of your body, do you really want that..

I had to order the fake stuff online, but it helped me so much early in my quit. You might be able to find beef jerky chew in stores. That little bit of familiar feel can be enough to get through the craves... Hell I used to chew fresh mint last summer to beat back the craves.

Thanks for the advice and support, I am looking forward to the next few months and leaving this habit behind.
Wait a minute.....habit......

mind altering thought here....you do not have a habit, you are addicted. You are addicted to the strongest drug known to man. It is this addiction to nicotine that you need to strip yourself away from

so buckle down as you have come to the right place, and then hold on as you are in for the ride.

read the site and remember that as a group we can beat this together. Learn the secrets this site has to offer, use the tools that will be shown to you if you read and step outside of yourself to all of us 'strangers' who have been there where you are right now.

take what you can and apply it to your life.

Do this and you can beat this addiction on a daily basis.

I quit with you today and only today, then ask me tomorrow.

Glad to see you quittin' man! I'm also 21 and guess what? Fuck dip. I don't care how many of my friends dip, I won't be one of 'em. Life is too good to miss it because we're too addicted to nicotine to notice. You're doing the right thing bro. If you need anything PM me and I'll give you my number.

Do you remember nicotine? Do you truly remember her? The way she controlled you financially, emotionally and physically? The lies she whispered in your ear daily? Remember how one dip was too many and one thousand was never enough? Yeah, so do I. That's why I'm here. That's why I post roll. That's why I support my brothers and sisters. Because I remember her too damn well.

And BTW Westend, I really dig your lyrics.

Too many shadows, whispering voices
Faces on posters, too many choices
If, when, why, what?
How much have you got?
Have you got it, do you get it, if so, how often?
And which do you choose, a hard or soft option?

Hi WestEnd-
If you don't already know about it, check out the Welcome Center- the salmon-ish colored link in the back menu bar, towards the upper left of this web page. Posting roll is key. Also keep learning all you can about what to expect from your quit. And reach out to others -- get numbers- you might want to text people on breaks, etc. There are a lot of oil crews by where I live, and I've often wondered how I'd deal with it if I worked on a crew. ALL the guys seem to dip. You can beat it though, even in that situation. Others here have similar situations and make it. What it really takes is knowledge, committment, integrity for your own word, and brotherhood for support. All of that is yours for free here, and the price of admission is only a daily promise not to use for that day.
This info helped me early on, and still does today: https://whyquit.com/whyquit/linksaaddiction.html

Quitters I’ve met so far: Ihatecope, >Pinched<, T-Cell, grizzlyhasclaws, Canvasback, BaseballPlayer, Cbird65, ERDVM, BradleyGuy, Ted, Zeno, AppleJack, Bronc, Knockout, MookieBlaylock, Rdad, 2mch2lv4, MN_Ben, Natro, Lippizaner, Amquash, ChristopherJ, GDubya, SRohde  -- always eager to meet more!

Congrats on taking off the nicotine leash, brother. Running free is uncomfortable at first, but trust me, you'll find it SWEET before too long.
First of all, nicotine does not keep you alert. What nicotine is doing for you, if you wish to look at it from that point of view, is reducing your WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS so that you can concentrate on what you are doing (until you need another fix, of course, then your addicted brain will demand attention again, and you will find it hard to concentrate on work....again). Think about that process, and understand that nicotine is NOT helping you. I hope I'm explaining this simply and clearly enough. If not, PM Wastepanel or Keddy for an explanation of the process, they have described it very clearly. Debunking myths such as "It mellows me out" and "it helps me concentrate" are key to you knowing that there is NOTHING in this drug that logically justifies it's use.
PM me if I can help. Congrats again on taking positive steps to change your life.

You can do it!  For me sunflower seeds and chewing gum.  Stay as busy as possible.  Drink coffee instead if you need to stay awake.
I'm on day 4 of the quit and loving it. Withdrawal sucks dickbags, but that shit don't control me no more. I control my life. Smokey Mountain is a great friend.

So I have looked at this site for a while but I never joined until now. I quit Copenhagen yesterday and this time I am serious. I started dipping when I was 13, by the time I was 15 I was dipping a can a day. Now I'm 21 and ready to stop. I have tried several times before, my record being 13 days tobacco free. It is pretty difficult right now, as I work in the oil field and absolutely every person I work with dips and/ or smokes. My excuse has always been that it keeps me awake and alert, which is necessary since I work 18-20 hours a day 7 days at a time. I guess I'm just looking for some folks who have done it before, because I don't have many people in my life who actually want me to quit, and those that do have no idea what it is like.
