Welcome, nice intro.

I agree, I envy your decision to quit at 20.

Two things in your intro stick out to me -

1. You refer to it as a habit. It is an addiction. You (we, all of us here) are no different than the strung-out heroin junkie. The sooner you realize the extent of the addiction, the sooner you will be free.

2. You said you truly enjoyed dipping. I used to think the same way. You need to develop a hatred for nicotine. And realize on thing - the only thing nicotine satisfied was the need for itself. Think about that. It didn't relieve stress, or calm you down, or relax you. It satisfied its own craving for itself.

There is life after tobacco. There are thousands of us here that can attest to that. The most important thing you can do is to join your Quit Group and post roll. Here is a link to your Septhember Quit Group. See instructions for posting roll at the top.

Post roll daily, get to know the guys in your group, swap digits, reach out when you need to, offer support when needed. Make your promise, keep your promise. Refuse to cave, no matter what. That's the secret to staying quit.

Proud to quit with you.

Done with this stuff for good.

Hey y'all, my name is James, I am 20 years old and have decided its time to kick this habit for good. Some backstory, I was 16 years old sitting in the seat of my buddies truck outside of school when he brought out this beautiful blue tin labeled "skoal mint." He opened it up and said we should give it a shot, I remember thinking, "what the hell, why not" and balled some up in my fingers and threw it in. I had never felt something so purely relaxing. I never got sick, dizzy, or any sort of negative symptom from dipping in the early days. I loved it. Flash forward about a year and I was once again given the opportunity to use dip. I didn't know it at the time but that can of grizzly wintergreen I was looking at was about to make me her bitch for the next 3 years. If I wasn't eating or sleeping, I was dipping. Now, i'm done with it though. I refuse to spend the rest of my life letting that can walk me on a leash. It's going to be really hard because I truly enjoyed dipping but it's just not worth the risks. I am quitting while I am home from college because I had such a refined "dipping" schedule while I was there and I could never shake it. Not to mention, it seems that everyone at my male-only college smokes or dips and peer pressure when trying to quit is an SOB. At college it was simple, run out of dip, no worries, the school sells it on campus. I have been working myself down from a can a day and yesterday I only used twice so I figured today was the day to finally begin the journey back to freedom.

Anyway, there's my intro. I have about 10000 more toothpicks to gnaw on before my Jakes mint chew gets here so I better get to work on them.
