There is a long standing joke up here about Beals Island. The cemetary is filled with headstones that read either "Beals" or "Abel". Seriously. It's fucking creepy.

Anyway, the joke (which may or may not be true) is that the State of Maine errected the first bridge to Beals Island in the 50's to stop all the inbreeding.
