I'm James McGillis. I'm 19 years old, and have only been dipping a couple of months. I smoked for about 6 months, until "quitting" and started dip. I haven't been dipping to an extreme amount, probably 2 cans a week, but I've definitely had a nicotine addiction for well over a year. I've been getting sores in my mouth, and I know now is the time to quit. I don't really think that it's anything serious, but I have wanted to be free of this addiction since it started. I'm just looking for advice, what to expect, etc. Thanks!
James, you're 19 and you're about to make an incredibly smart decision. I think you'll be surprised how difficult it is to quit nicotine even with your relatively short term use.
I started when I was 13, and I wish I never had. I'm 31 now, and quitting is proving to be one of the most difficult things I've ever done.
Making the decison to not be part of this ridiculous addiction at a young age is great. Your life will be filled with many important decisions. Imagine not having to worry about whether or not your tobacco use will influence your children because you quit when you were 19... Think about being able to tell your insurance guy to go ahead and give you the premium elite rate, because you're not a dumbass. Think about going to the dentist without him getting that big toothbrush out and showing you how to brush your teeth like you're a damn child because he thinks you have no dental hygiene.
And think about significantly decreasing the odds of hearing this sentence "Mr. Mgillis, you have cancer."
Quit it.
