When times are good, practice for the bad. When times are bad...well, you won't have to think about what to do.

You'll know.
Good thoughts. There have been several days where the bag of sunflower seeds or pack of gum in my car is all that kept me from buying a can of dip. But I only had those things there because I prepared while I wasn't having a craving.

It's like Kennedy said, "The time to fix the roof is when the sun is shining."
I like this. This is a good point to all of you new quitters and vets alike. Good job Breadherring! There is no doubt in my mind that with a plan and accountability you can do this.

Just wanted to check in again here and memorialize some of what I've been feeling the last few weeks. Today is day 20 and, while I know the battle is not won, I'm feeling a lot better. The first few days were as awful as everyone said they would be and I was not very pleasant to be around. I thought when I was through the first three or four days that the hardest part was behind me, but after barely thinking about dip for days 6-13, the cravings came back with a vengeance on day 14. Hopping in chat and just getting my mind off it was key for much of that week.

Anyway, as today marks 1/5 of the way to the HOF, I just wanted to say I really appreciate the support from everybody on KTC.
You are a sexy quittin Sultan is what you are!
Be prepared, and stay quit my friend.

20 days is awesome, but you're still recovering.

Quitting is like a pendulum initially. One side represents "Awesome", and the other represents "Sucks". When you make the decision to quit, you start to pull that pointer into the suck territory. It goes further and further over until all that nicotine is out of your system (3-7 days). At that point...you let it go. Things don't get immediately better.

But they get slightly better.

And then more.

The pointer moves past the middle point and travels into the "Awesome" territory. This occurs in the somewhere in the teens and twenties. It's significant as this is when most people decide "I got this" and decide to do it on their own. They're tired of the bullshit associated with quitting. They're sick of the drama. They want to relax rather than be diligent on their quit.

These people do not notice that the pointer is traveling back to the suck...

When times are good, practice for the bad. When times are bad...well, you won't have to think about what to do.

You'll know.

Eventually, your moods will be dictated not by this pendulum. It will be centered in the middle. Events can make it swing slightly for a moment, but you'll never have to worry about these big swings again.

You can do this. I know you can because I am.
In the end I Surrender, I and I alone accept that I have and always will have a Nicotene ADDICTION. It is my choice to quit, but I can't do it alone. I get to go down this path one time, I want to do it right. I recognize that my word, my integrety to you is on the line and is only as good as my actions. Caving is not an option in this plan-Eafman 7/11

I am not cured. I will quit one day at a time. I will continue to do what works. Posting roll everyday. To do otherwise would be foolish on my part. You can do this-Ready 12/11

To overcome your addiction you must comprehend what it means to fail-Razd 3/12

Theres a lot of people that come here, especially vets, that WANT to be reminded that they are addicts.-Tarpon 6/12

Just as a building starts with architectural drawings. Your daily quit begins with a promise.-Scowick 2/13

Here and now, focused on today, minute by minute, whatever it takes, I promise to all my bros and myself not to become a negative stat and stay quit!-krok 1/15

Thanks, guys. Just posted roll for day 2. Looking forward to getting in my car and not smelling a big rancid cup of dip spit.

Breadherring,

Just saw your post. Congratulations on the decision and welcome. You've joined the baddest group of Quittin' MFers there is, bubba. The fun is just beginning. Ol Man LOOT says to embrace the SUCK, remember it, burn in into your conscience so you never, ever want to go back. Just remember you can't die from nicotine withdrawals, no matter what the nicbitch tries to tell you.

Post early. Take the option to use off the table first thing. Read a lot; helps knowing others are in the SUCK with you. Build a network...reach out to others, they'll return the favor.

Again, welcome to the Sultans....glad to have you onboard.

Hi all. I just took out what I've decided is my last dip. I've convinced myself that I'm not a "real dipper" since "I only do it occasionally" but I realized I've been dipping two cans a week for a year, which pretty much makes me a "real dipper."

I've got a can and a half in the car that I'm going to throw away as soon as I get off work. Today is shot, obviously, but I'll post roll tomorrow morning for Day One.
If you dump it all, today is day 1. There is no tomorrow. Flush it all and post day 1 today.
