New here and Just found this place. My brother pointed the way. wish I would have found this site sooner... but better late than never.

Well this is the 4th serious quit attempt in as many years....
Last year I actually made it 20 days. Then I screwed up. bought one can thinking I can have only one, I can control it....and within a month I was chewing a tin a day again.

This year I thought for sure I had throat cancer. throat hurt for 3 weeks. found a lump and it was really red. Thank God I saw a throat specialist and she said No worries. lump is inflamed tonsil and red throat was allergy drainage.... well I've had allergies all my life but NEVER a sore throat from them....Still a bit scared. Who knows what is going on inside ya know?
Regardless, I was scared enough to quit and say never again. Had all the old quit reasons and a new Fear to boot.

I chewed for 20 years. mostly nonstop. Least a can a day. If I wasnt sleeping or eating I was chewing.

So...... Today I am celebrating the end of day 30 of no chew.. well celebrating is maybe too strong a word. but I am proud of myself and determined this time. Still tough tho.

Today was my first actual day with no nicotine whatsoever. Been doing the patch and the lowest dose ran out yesterday.... determined not to spend another dime that way...

But it was kind of  a tough day. Made it though it though.
No nicotine or tobacco today...

struggling but holding my own.
Just wanted to say Hi and tell my tale.

Wade, first off, sorry nobody replied for a while after your first post in here...I saw it around midnight as I was leaving work in the ER but didn't respond. You're showing a great attitude and glad to see that you waited to post day 1 until after stopping use of the nic substitutes. Look, we've all been there and it sucks, but as you will see EVERYONE telling you, it does get better. And with the suport you can gain from here, it keeps your mind focused on the big picture. Read as much as you can. Listen to what everyone is saying, filter out the BS and take in the good info. Don't take anything said here to heart if someone is busting your balls...it is definately a tough-love approach - because the nic beast will take no mercy on you, so you have to get mean, nasty and tough with your quit. You need support or a number, PM me (or nearly anyone else) and it is yours for the asking. Great decision to quit.
Not to worry Coach, I PM'd our newest Bro N2 yesterday. He's all squared away. Offer still stands N2, if you need a number, mine is yours for the asking.

Keep in mind N2, every single one of us has been through EXACTLY what you are going through right now. Hell, I wasn't even sure I could quit... but I never looked at more than just TODAY. I kept saying to myself... you gave your word... just get through today.... did that ever day for 135 days so far. By the way, it gets soooo much better/easier. It won't suck forever, I promise.

I'm supporting you in October.

Hang Tough Quitter,

Thought you could have just one. Funny, didn't that just happen again? What are you changing this time around? How are you NOT going to disappoint yourself and December? Are you serious about quitting or just pacifying time?

Wade - Now that you are no nic. Drink lots of water, read everything here, get seeds and fake chew. Then go find Oct and post your promise. This is a day by day thing. I chewed for 30 years. Set your mind to your quit. Don't think about anything but quiting for today. Then come back tomorrow, keep reading, post your promise for that day. No more patches, all you are doing is giving yourself nic via the patch. Be done and quit. Keep your word. I'm only on day 33, but this site and the vets are great. Use all the tools and learn from the messages. I've told myself all the same crap "just one more", "I can handle it", "my life sucks, this makes it better"... all bull shit. Quit and take control.

Welcome to the site -

Rob
