welcome to the forum and welcome to your new life.

We do this 1 day at a time. Read everything you can and use the resources here.
I dipped for 19 years, 2 cans a day at the end and with the help of my brothers and sisters here and my family offline I just crossed the 1 year mark.

you are formally in the suck. It does get better.

Post roll and more importantly keep your word.

Welcome aboard Louis! Chewed pretty heavily for 6 years myself prior to hitting the "no shit I'm quitting" point. On day 5 myself. Welcome to the suck hoss, but these guys are bad-ass at keeping you moving forward and the one day at a time thing works.

I'm just starting out myself so I don't have anything profound to relay but I can say this:

1. Post to roll call
2. Keep your one day no nic pledge
3. Don't over engineer this shit = one day at a time
4. Chat/email/call whomever you need to in order to vent/kill time when cravings hit
5. Keep moving forward

Need anything...let me know via PM. Congrats on your decision. Now let's get to work.
Quit Day: 15 May 2011

Welcome, Louis. You have made an excellent decision, now you have to fine tune your mindset a bit. You gotta be definitive to beat this thing. Think warriors going into battle screaming and shouting.
Around here, we:
"are quitting" instead of "want to quit"
"will post EVERY day" instead of "try to post every day".

See the difference? Not trying to be a smartass, just offering some insight. Let me know if I can help you out.

welcome aboard, louis!

i'm not sure how long you've been reading, but if you're new around here, you should read this.

once you know the drill, you need to make sure you post roll. that's your word that you're not going to use nicotine that day. keep your word... to yourself, your family, and your quit brothers and sisters. you'll be in the august '11 quit group, so head on over there and post roll if you haven't already.

there are some great people here that are amazingly giving and helpful. they'll give a kick in the ass when you need one too.

i'm glad you're here, and i'm proud to be quit with you.
Quit- 5/16/2011. One day at a time.

Day 1
« on: May 20, 2011, 10:50:00 AM »
Hi all,

This is the 3rd or 4th time I have tried to quit in the past 6 years. I have been been dipping/chewing for the last 6 years. In the past I would try to half-heartedly quit because my parents, friends, family, or girlfriends would tell me its gross or bad for me. Their urging was not enough because I wasn't willing to quit for myself. I have a habitual personality and unless I'm willing to do something for myself: I wont do it. Finally, I was searching the web, found this site, and realized this could help me.

I have wanted to quit for a while, but didn't want to ask people who had never chewed to help because in the past that didnt work. It didn't work because they didnt understand the urges or habitual times when I would chew. However, this site is full of men and women who have chewed and want to quit like me. Thus, I know that by working with others to hold myself accountable while supporting others in the same struggle; I will finally be able to kick the can. I will because I want to do this for me, rather than to keep a girlfriend or make momma proud. I want to do this for my health and my wallet.

Thank you and today is day 1 and I promise to myself and the other members of this forum; that today I will use no form of tobacco (chew, dip, snuff, cigarettes, cigars, pipe, etc) or nicotine because I have the power to say now and the willpower to make it through today.

One day at a time,

Louis Liberatore
