We've taken those hour long shits just to get a dip in.

Wow, thought I was the only one!!! I agree that I'm addicted - that is why I'm here. Sorry if my choice of words offended.
Here's the most desperate thing that dip used to make me do. I've NEVER driven drunk in my life, so I was shit-outta-luck if I ran out of chew on a Saturday night. So, on the occasion that I would run out, I'd empty out the ol' spitter into a paper towell, squeeze out the 'juice,' and then scrape up when I could and re-dip it. Fuck me, does that sound like the sickest and most ridiculous (not to mention, most desperate) thing in the world?!?! I don't think I've ever told any one this, not even to my friends who dip. But, yeah, as nasty as that sounds, I used to do it. Usually, if I knew I was down to my last dip I'd try to set that last one down on the desk or back in the can, but when I'd forget, I'd resort to the filter-and-dry method.

That's one of the dozens of reasons I quit that shit 43 days ago and will keep quitting it every day. It fucks you up in more ways than just putting you on the road to cancer. Now I dip sunflower seeds - and, to date, I've not yet felt the urge to re-dip any sunflower seeds!

I never did refiltered thing, but I've heard others here say they've done it. It would win for most idiotic thing I've ever heard involving dip but for a guy on here who made "dip pills." Not that this is a competition or anything, but it helps to share these stories so we understand why we have to stay quit.

In any event, a dip pill, you see, is what my buddy Denny would do when traveling with his family. He couldn't dip, but still needed nic so he wouldnt rage on an 3 hour drive. His solution was to wrap up dip in tissue paper and swallow it so it would slowly release nic into his system and keep him "normal" throughout the drive.

Never again, men, for any reason.

Yeah, I remember "inventing" that move and thinking I was so smart, but when you look back it is kinda pathetic. I also remember having people over for drinks, etc and getting irritaed that they wouldn't leave so I could get the last dip in before bed. So sad.

Day 4 and doing well.

No offense, brother. Just wanted to make sure you truly recongnized yourself for what you are - an addict.

And believe me, most, if not all, of us have cowered in the shitter just to get our fix. Pretty pathetic, huh?

Hi everyone, just checking in... decided to quit (again)... been going through a divorce which at first led me to swear it off and I did well for about a week.  I was figuring on turning over a new leaf (not pun intended) and get rid of the bad habits before I started dating.  Then the stress of the break-up and divorce, and that fact that I was alone in the house a lot, led me to do it again.  I want to stop because I'm stll relatively young and I have two young kids that don't need to have a dad with dentures (or worse) at 40.

A little history... dipped for about 3 years in college.  Was doing a tin a day, and quit the day I graduated.  Never looked back.  Then about 5 years ago I was at a fantasy baseball draft and a few guys were doing it so I decided to have a pinch (a few beers in me at the time).  That led to slowly starting up - maybe a tin a week.  Now Im doing the pouches and I'm at a tin every few days.  No need for it - definitely a "habit".

So, here I am.  I bought some of the mint-leaf chew to help out, but it really doesn't compare.  I think I'll need to just "sack-up" and deal with it.

Glad to be here - wish me luck!

steve
Steve ingesting nicotine is NOT a habit! You are an addict and untill you realize this and that you always will be you are heading for failure. Spend a lot of time reading words of wisdom and HOF speeches, get active in your Dec, group. Pm me if you have questions or need help.
Listen to WT57. He's spot on - you (like me and WT and everyone else on this site) are a drug addict. You are addicted to nicotine. And you will do all of the things that addicts do - you will lie to your loved ones to get your fix, you will tell yourself that you can have "just one," and you will continue to shove the shit into your lip even though you know it is slowly killing you.

Picking your nose is a bad habit. You don't just have a bad habit.

People on this site know how the brain of an addict works. We know all of the tricks, we know all of the lies - not because we're psychics, but we've all been there. We've lied to our spouse's face, we've taken those hour long shits just to get a dip in, and we've ignored our kids for a fix.

If you are going to be successful here - and you can be - you need to understand and admit that you are a drug addict.

You can do this. One day at a time.

Be sure to use the website. Posting roll is important. Also, I dont know how many times I have had a crave and I just started looking through the website and have found the help I have needed.

Some folks here act like 'arse'
Some folks here are
Some are 'Crazy'

But for sure, they are all your quit brothers and sisters. All of us are addicts and quitting with you.

Quit now and stay quit!

Yeah I hear you on the kids thing, this is my second time quitting but this time seems so much more real once I have children.

Think about them an do whatever it takes to not go back. Stay quit.
