So today is Day 7. Had one of the worst days ever working. On my way to my Sales location my truck was swerving side to side as if the alignment off and had to white knuckle my way all the way to where I was heading which is about 40 minutes from my depot. My truck broke down a couple times including in the middle of a really busy intersection. These types of days are days where I will chew Tobacco due to the anxiety of how my day is going. Especially when I have truck issues I would go through a couple tins in a day. Today was different, as frustrating of day it was and how upset I was I refused to jump. I refused to go back to that tin of Tobacco. Today was my first true test against the Nic Bitch. I defeated it today, I've defeated it for 7 days in a row now. We cominnnnnnnnnnn!
Nicotine never fixed a truck. And it never helped you fix a truck either. Today you are cracking the ice on a big bowl of lies... One day at a time you are gaining freedom.

Well done.
Great job Sam just keep winning every time! Damn proud to be quit with you my friend!
Tobacco is so addictive it took me a year after a massive heart attack, in which doctor confirmed caused from dipping to finally put a lid on the bitch! ODAAT EDD

4 days cold turkey now. It's been tough but it hasn't been impossible because here I am now. My craves aren't as bad as the first 48 hours but my irritation hasn't been the best things to deal with. I'll feel I can break this habit is if I get to about the 40-45 day mark. While being a 9 year chewer that was about the time when I took a break a couple times from it only to start back up. If I can clear that 45 day mark I believe I can prevent myself from chewing again. Only time will tell though. It is a day by day process but if you can get by day by day instead of taking it week by week the better chance you have of fighting the Nicotine bastard. It's really cool that there is a good support system out here for this. Everybody has their addictions. Fortunately mine is being taken care of. But I'm worried about some of the people that have stopped chewing only to feed themselves with another addiction. EATING. Quit eating junk only to satisfy what you once were doing. You create a new potentially dangerous addiction. I would love to help out those people that are dealing with those issues as well right now.
4 days is great man! The poison is out of your body and now the rewiring can begin. I say rewiring because nicotine kinda jacks with some of the thought processes we have. The physical part of your addiction is now fixed. You don't "need" nicotine after it has left you body, but you from time to time might think you do.

One day at a time you are going to get to a place of greatness. It might be in 45 days. It might be tomorrow. Or it might be in a year. I dunno, but here is what I do know...by giving your word every day and keeping it, you will get there. The only people that fail on this site are the ones that stop giving their word (99.9% of failures) or sociopaths. If you give your word you will get to freedom as you clearly are not a sociopath.

As far as addiction... I'm proud to be an addict. Took me a while to get there, but it is a personality trait that means that I'm all in on everything. Family. Work. Play. We are balls to the wall in all parts of life. Unfortunately that included tobacco. Now we are balls to the wall in beating that nasty fuck one day at a time.

Proud to quit with you on day 5. If I can ever help shoot me a note. I promise you... Greatness is ahead.
Do not fool yourself into thinking the food (etc, or ____,) is an "addiction" that is just as bad as nic. It is not. Do not worry about food. Eat bon bons til you pop if that's what it takes. There are MANY other posts backing me up. If you do not believe me, read any debate about the merits of using "fake dip" (it's the same debate). YOU HAVE TO EAT TO LIVE. You do not have to use nicotine. I don't have great eating habits, but I've never packed a months worth of Little Debbie pies because I won't be able to get them in Brazil. I HAVE packed two sleeves of cope...just in case.

Congrats on realizing it's time you stopped living as a slave. Don't worry about "when" you'll have this thing licked...just don't let it beat you TODAY.
*Quit today. Full stop. No qualifiers. Tomorrow?... IDK, IDC.

Congrats on quitting. It's the best thing you can do for yourself. You've been given some great advice. Make sure to not only follow that advice. Live and breath what you are learning here. Be the quit. It's the only way to succeed. At this point in your quit you are doing it. Failure would be completely unacceptable and pathetic. No excuses. Quit like fuck every damn day.

Post roll and KEEP YOUR WORD. Advice for replacements...candy, seeds, gum, mints, exercise, water, etc.

Don't forget to focus on what you are doing. You're saving a life here...your own. Quitting is a privilege reserved to those who have the character and determination to do it. You're in control now. So just DECIDE for yourself that this will not suck. Every urge is a reminder that you are doing something heroic and awesome. Everyday quit is reason to celebrate. Consciously decide that you will see it that way. Turn the tables on the Nic Bitch. Think of it this way...you GET to feel this shitty because you CHOSE to be free.

Nobody gets freedom for the asking. You have to earn it And that is exactly what you're doing one day at a time. Click around in the Quit Groups...not just your own, but a few other months and years. Then think...every name you see there is someone who has been right where you are right now...and they are WINNING one day at a time. Pretty cool, huh? Every day is another opportunity to live free and kick the Nic Bitch in the nuts.

The only thing that matters is TODAY. CONGRATS ON MAKING A GREAT CHOICE.

Well done posting roll Sam. Tomorrow post in the upper section of that page.

Your on a good start with some great quiters in the same place you are. During your breaks and lunch, get on the April quit group page and start sharing your thought, struggles and accomplishments... Go there and vent when you feel a craving.

Replace your time chewing with time here on KTC quiting!

Other people here need you, help them that's good medicine for you also.

Other than that drink water.. Stay off alcohol and caffeine for a bit... And be careful and aware your risk when you do.

I quit with you today on that truck!
Just focus on today.

An impenetrable quit shield is wrought from character, superheated in the kiln of accountability and is pounded daily on the anvil of brotherhood. There's a shit ton of soot covered, leather wearing, hammer wielding quit smiths to learn from here. The noise can be deafening and amber sparks fly. With this first step, your apprenticeship has begun.
'horsecrap'
You are forbid from defecating on anyone else's shield. That's the only rule. Welcome to the guild.

Advice:

1. Read as much as possible. There is so so much valuable knowledge on this site alone, and all it takes is the resourcefulness in finding it and reading it over and over until it makes sense. If you want to quit bad enough, you will dive head first into this site and embrace all it has to offer.
2. Drink water... Lots of it. Cranberry juice also really helps detox those nasty chemicals in nicotine
3. Flush all nicotine, including dip, chew, cigs, cigars, patches, gum, etc. right down the toilet... You'll thank yourself later for taking the plunge.
4. Post roll tomorrow morning under May 2015 and start owning your quit. If you are suffering all day in abstaining from nicotine, don't you feel like receiving some credit for it?
5. Journal in this introduction how you are doing in your quit. Everything from what triggers you've experienced, emotions, side effects, life bs that gets in the way of your quit... Your intro page serves as a great blog-type thread and is useful to veterans, newbies, and especially YOURSELF.

Finally taking a step...
« on: February 19, 2015, 10:18:00 PM »
My name is Sam. I've been chewing Tobacco since New Year's Day in 2006. I've "stopped" here and there for a few weeks but haven't completely quit the habit. Chewing Tobacco has been apart of my life more so than ever since I started a delivery job. I'm always in the truck and need things to do. I would go through over a tin per day when it used to be a tin per 3 days. I am a Tobacco Addict. Nicotine has always been apart of my life as well considering both my parents were/are heavy smokers so 2nd hand smoke was a daily thing. Since my Health Benefits are very good I thought about quitting just in time for Lent and got in touch with a Call Coach. I receive text messages every day to check up on my progress. I've been reading a lot of articles on this site and find them useful as far as what to expect and what are some tools you can use to quit the habit. It's been only Day 2 but my cravings have been awful but I'm getting by on seeds, gum, and toothpicks. I'm not looking forward to the future headaches of not receiving the nicotine my body thinks it needs. Any advice will be great as I'm taking it one day at a time!
