Where do we post for general conversation? I have tried to go to the cafe' or whatever it is and it says I'm not allowed. So anyway my sore throat has subsided quite a bit and my mouth seems to be healing but gums are sore. Headache is a monster though!! Day 12...no problem!
you can post here, in the cafe or in your home group (feb 09).

sounds like you're on the right track!

One more question. When quitting chew does your body go through the same "cleansing" process that causes "smoker's flu" when they quit. I started feeling sick other than the aforementioned gum and mouth soreness about three days after I quit. Kind of like a cold....??????

Thank you for the help!
Again, your doctor can give you the medical answer to this. But my very un-educated thought is that our addiction is to nicotine. The only difference between us and smokers is our method of delivery was more efficient. So alot of the "cleansing" process is likely to be very similar.

That's why posting roll call is a promise to not use tobacco in any form for that day. Most of the member tolerates folks who use the NRT (gum, patch, etc.) program providing they stick to the program EXACTLY as its laid out or even a little more aggressively. Having a cig, stogie, or even a piece of nicorette if you're not following the program all amount to the same thing here.....DAY 1!

Thank you gentlemen! I read and re-read the road map to 100. No doubts here as I said. I am SO appreciative of the knowledge on this site. I know I am not someone who dipped for 20 years or something but in the Army my last four years and during my two tours to Iraq especially I chewed ALOT. I don't drink or smoke and I stay pretty healthy otherwise so I hope I have avoided cancer or decreased the risk by stopping now. Yes we do play mind games and I guess I am learning as all of you did that nicotine is a dangerous substance with some serious brainwash power. I also NEVER knew the things it caused in your mouth such as the Ph changes. Thank you for the support and I will keep posted in Roll Call and WILL NOT TOUCH THOSE CANS. Even though the guys at the Police Academy think I am a wuss for quitting. (the ones that chew anyway) Others are proud so F----the dumb ones!!!!
All you can do is hope about any damage done to this point, but there is no need to about preventing any further damage from being done. That is well within you ability to prevent by just making the constant decision to not dip.

As for the fellas at the academy, they are either jealous of your quit or will soon be. If anyone of those guys offer you a dip to try to get you to fail or for any other reason for that matter, take the can and say "oh hell i'll have one". Then dump the thing on the ground in front of them. It will likely cause a little bruising, but they won't offer you a tin again. ;)

Hello all, my name is Paul and as I said above, I am ten days in to my quit. I am looking forward to getting to the one-hundred mark and have no doubts that I will. Already at ten days and I don't really crave chew that much. Here and there I suppose, but I have freaked myself out so much over cancer that I don't want to chew. I do have some questions right off the bat though. I never got any sores while chewing (Cope Long Cut 4 1/2 years) but now that I have quit I have sore gums and developed a sore on the "non-dip" side of my lower jaw between my cheek and gum. I have never dipped there and it has me worried. I have been chewing on sunflower seeds with alot of salt so maybe this is it as was previously stated on this site? Also my throat is sore and I am TIRED most of the time. Lastly when I feel my cheeks and lips I feel numerous small "lumps" in there but I don't know if they are all normal. My Fiance' says she feels them on her in her lips and cheeks so I guess they are ducts and glands? My cause for concern is one that is at the base of my jaw and cheek (lower) and is free moving. There is one in roughly the same spot on the oposite side that also seems to move a bit. Does all of this seem about normal?
Welcome to the site.

It can be generally said that any changes you are going through in the first month or so of your quit will be directly related to the quit. Your mouth is going through serious Ph changes. The tired feeling can be tied to your brain's "re-wiring" process. That said WE ARE NOT DOCTORS if it makes you feel better, go and see one, there's no harm in having piece of mind.

Hopefully you've seen it, but here's a pretty accurate road map of how you will feel for the 1st hundy days. And speaking of making it 100 days, it will come. Just worry about posting 11 days tomorrow for today. Then tomorrow you can worry about posting 12 the day after. You get the idea.

Welcome Brother and congrats on a great decision! 10 days in is awesome. Keep going.

I also had sores in my mouth during the early days of my quit and I also noticed every bump and wondered if it was cancer. Amazing how we play mind games. If you are really concerned, check with a doctor.
