So I've chewed for 15 years. The last several have been a can a day. It seemed like I always had one in. I haven't even attempted to quit in at least 6 plus years. In recent months I've tried the cut back method with a goal date. It failed every time. I love Cope long cut regular. Especially after a good steak dinner and baked potato. Anyways...10 days ago I had two full cans. I decided after these two that I was done. I stretched them out about 5 days. I haven't looked back since. Day 5 of zero nicotine. Using BACCOFF to help, which is surprisingly effective. Cravings haven't been terrible.,,mornings and night I'm at my worst/grumpiest. My motivation is multiple. It's for my wife, my son, myself and my wallet. Cost of chew keeps going up plus my life insurance costs more each month because of it. My first big goal is the 4 week mark...I don't plan on going back...as far as I'm concerned I don't chew anymore. It's nice that there's a group for support. My worst systems so far have been my guts. Gassy/bloated...constipation...and the endless desire to snack! Proud to be here with you all. What we're attempting and actually doing isn't easy. Looking forward to being part of the group.
Hey Elk, welcome to the brotherhood of quit! You've just made one of the best decisions of your life. I'm a former 28-year dipper myself. If I was awake I had a dip in, so I know what you're going through and how rough it's going to be. Find your group on here (Pre-HOF May) and start posting roll with them. There are instructions on how to do it in the introduction section. Read everything you can on this site. When you think you've read all that you can, read more. Drink lots of water. Use the fake stuff, seeds, gum, whatever works for you. Next, and here is where a lot of folks fail, build a web of accountability by trading numbers with several members of your May group as well as several of the vets. Everyone on this site is here for the same reason you are, and every person here is or has struggled with the same stuff you're going through. Listen to those who have been quit longer than you, and lean on your May brothers who are at the same stage in their quit as you. Make this quit about you, otherwise when you start craving and raging you'll blame your family. Take it one day at a time (ODAAT) and don't worry about tomorrow.
PM me if you want my number for support.
Now go post roll in May and don't fight this alone. Proud to quit with you today, brother.
