Nate your story is similar to mine. I started in my early teens and dipped heavily until age 37. I've been off the can for 57 days. If you'd have asked me if I'd be able to do that 2 months ago, I might have laughed you out of the room. The system on this site works great. The catch is that you have to jump into this thing with both feet. It's a pretty simple premise. It sounds like you know that until now, since you've made the decision to quit, your life has been modified to meet the schedule that works best for your ability to dip. You're an addict (so am I and everyone else here) and you will be for the rest of your life. The core of this community is built on accountability.

The first part is based on posting roll in your quit group. I think I seen a link to your group in an earlier post. You'll be part of the April quit group. You'll see the acronym WUPP. That means wake up, piss, post roll to your quit group. That's your daily promise to your quit group and the rest of this community that you're no longer a slave and you will live your life without nicotine. You'll see the acronym ODAAT. That's short for one day at a time. The further I get into my quit, the more importance that carries for me. It's hard to fathom quitting anything for the rest of your life. However, making the promise for one day is a lot more palatable.

It's important to use the site to immerse yourself during those first couple of weeks. As long as you and I have been slaves to the nicotine, I can promise your first couple weeks will be brutal. It sounds crazy, but exchange phone numbers. Being able to text someone when you're quit-raging is a life saver! It's better to take the aggression out on someone here who knows what you're going through, versus one of your family members. It's also great to be able to reach out when you're having some major dip cravings (that's going to happen too, I promise!).

I dipped and smoked for 26 years and made many attempts at quitting. the only plan that worked for me was KTC. so here is the plan:
as stranger said: post roll every day.
this will be the foundation of your success. it might seem a bit weird at first, posting roll with a group of screen names. and then think that this should in any way help you in your quit.
but stick with it.
read as much as you can on this site. get involved in the discussions, get on live chat. you won't believe the good it will do.
the hard truth is this: it will suck to quit. it will really, really suck hard. and in those moments your addict brain will want to throw in the towel. You say you haven't had a drink in 5 years, so I assume you know a thing or two about addiction.
in those moments of suck, you come here, you read, you grind it out for 5 minutes and stare that craving down and watch it fizzle.
you'll feel foggy as hell and won't be able to concentrate.
that is how your day will go.
then tomorrow, you come back here and do it again.
there is no secret plan, it is just you with your determination and will power and us, here to support you.

I quit with you.
