My name is Clint. I have been addicted to nicotine for over 22 years. It all started with my attempt to impress a girl by smoking one of her cigarettes back in high school. I smoked for a few months then decided to quit by switching to chew. I have maintained a 2+ can/day addiction for close to 20 years. Like many other addicts, I have made several attempts to quit in the past, whether it was gum, patches, or lozenges. These measures only seemed to get me conditioned to a different nicotine delivery method which always led right back to the Copenhagen.
I am so tired of that silver topped can having such a large influence on my decision making, the troubles it is causing in my marriage with all my lying, and how it generally controls my life!! It is time for me to go cold turkey and get control of this addiction. I must admit my fear of having another failed quit but it wonÂ’t be today.
Thanks for having me.
Thats good stuff Clint, and welcome! Quitting is difficult but thousands of us have done it, so just know that you can make it thru. It will get better as time goes on, but just take it one day at a time, or even 1 minute at a time if you need to.
Use distractions, like sunflower seeds, atomic fireballs, jolly ranchers, or fake/herbal chew. Anything that does not contain nicotine is fine. Find something that works for you.
Exercise is also a grea idea - it will relieve the stress and anxiety you are feeling right now.
