Pakese come over to June's quit group and post roll. It will be the best decision you make. Let's get this show on the road already

Stop waiting. The addict thought just continues if you think you need to extend your usage. Throw your shit out and post a day one now.

Pakese - we have similar stories. Started this shitty addiction in the Army, thought it was temporary and next thing you know 20 years later you're still going strong looking like an a complete idiot. GREAT call on just tossing the can, saying f*k it, I'm done. The set a date thing never works...just go cold turkey and be done with it for good. I made that same decision 363 days ago and it's the best decision I've ever made. I have my freedom and am no longer controlled by a little round can.

Get into your quit group (Pre-HOF June 2016) and post roll every single morning, first thing, every day. Make your promise not to use for that day, stick to it, repeat. Get some tools in place to curb the cravings when they hit...because they will hit hard early. Seeds, gum, and mints worked the best for me. Drink lots of water to flush out the system. Celebrate the small victories and stay strong...you've got this. No excuses this time, this is it, you're quit...one day at a time, every damn day!

Just saw a pinned thread about quit day. My apologies.

Well, to not make myself a rule breaker, I just started day #1 two minutes ago. I guess it's better I do it like this anyways, it's like ripping off a band-aid.
I fuckin' love this. 1000% better than quietly disappearing. 'oh yeah'

I'll have to pick up some stuff to help with, at the very least, the oral fixation.
I use ground coffee. Very dry, not even close to dip, but it gets me by for the moment. It's all about decisions. It always has been.

Hope to see you join me in the June group. We're trying to figure out some cutsie name that has words that rhyme with June. I'm stuck on "prune", but that really sucks.

Thanks wildIrish, and yeah, I just dumped a fairly new can of Cope. I tried to plan my quit day to be around the weekend, like that'll help me or something, but you're right, there's no better time than right now.

In the morning when I get my coffee I'll have to pick up some stuff to help with, at the very least, the oral fixation. I'd rather not prolong the addiction by getting the nicotine gum or patches, etc.

And don't let "retired" fool you. The government just gives me a check once a month, but I still do 50+ hours per week. :p

Anyhow, I'll be back in 24 hours.

Pakese, where do I begin?

Let's start with age. You always said you'd stop dipping before 40. I never thought I'd live to be 40. (I will be 56 this month, and probably live to be 90, based on my parents.) The age milestone really doesn't exist. Toss that one.

You haven't gotten cancer yet. You've dipped from age 11 to 40. That's 29 years, give or take. I've dipped from age 18 (maybe 17) to 55. That's 37 years. I haven't gotten cancer yet. That's not a reason to quit. (It's not a reason to keep dipping either.)

You just retired. Fock you, I'm jealous!

You are making some life changes. This will probably make quitting much more difficult. I wouldn't have said this two weeks ago, before I quit, but starting my second week of quit, my focus at work is taking a serious hit.

You've set a date. I did that too. It was sometime in the future. I went out at lunch time and bought a can of Copenhagen Long Cut Wintergreen. I came back to work and started browsing this site. 30 minutes later, after taking ONE FOCKING DIP out of the can, I flushed it down the toilet, rinsed out the can (there's always a good dip left when empty) and tossed it. Here I am, one week later.

You will know it's time when you quit. You are not ready until then. If you want the help of this site, be prepared to quit only for today. Then be prepared to wake up in the morning and declare to the world that you will remain quit for one day. Then be prepared to do this every day, for the rest of your life.

Quitting nicotine is simple. Quitting nicotine will be the hardest thing you do in this life. Quitting nicotine is something you do because you want to do it.

Pour out that can and go post your day 1 in the june 2016 pre hof group. Tomorrow, post your promise early and keep it, repeat. If I can do it, you sure as hell can.

Date set: Preparing to do this
« on: March 02, 2016, 10:56:00 PM »
I had my first dip when I was 11, but I didn't consistently start dipping until I joined the Army. I always said I'd stop dipping before I reached age 40. Well, I celebrated my 40th birthday a few weeks ago, and I'm still dipping. I think I've convinced myself that I enjoy dipping, and that giving it up would lead to boredom. And since I haven't gotten cancer yet, I'm probably one of the lucky ones that won't get it. Yeah, I know that's the nicotine addiction making me think all that, but it sure is convincing.

I also just retired from the Army, got a new job, moved to the east coast...everything has changed. I don't know if all of these changes makes it easier or more difficult, but I guess we'll see. I'm not around many others that dip now, so I'm thinking, even with the stress of everything being new, that this is the time to do it before I get into a routine at work where I'm dipping all day.

I have never been a part of any support group or anything like that, but I've tried to quit before and I always come back. Even after several months of not having a single dip I've come back to it. So I thought I'd look for some help, so hopefully I've found it here.

I haven't quit yet, but I've set a date for myself. I intend to wake up on 5 March to start my first day. I'm debating cold-turkey vs nicotine gum or other subs. If anyone has suggestions (to include brands) please share, though I'm sure I can find previous posts here that have already covered this. My biggest concern is not going into work and freaking out on everyone because of withdrawals. My job is pretty high-stress, so I really need to consider the best course of action.

Anyhow, thanks for creating this site, and everyone else for being a part of the community. Hopefully I can kick this for good this time!
