I'm with souliman on this one. The sooner you get that nic out of your sysytem the better. Day 4 now and even though I crave I feel better than I have in 16 years. Especially with the knowledge of having that shit outta my system.

Thing to do: grab balls, make a fist with the other hand and scream out loud "I quit". Tell folks you are quit. Tell your friends. Tell your dog. Most importantly, tell the guy behind the counter at the cancer supply hut that you don't do that shit anymore. You tell that candy ass doctor of yours to call me. That mentality is failure. YOU CAN OVERCOME. YOU CAN FIGHT. Tell Dr. Nonuts that you own this. The sooner we get the nicotine out of your system the better. More oxygen getting to that brain of yours. Better sleep. No more dehydration. Lower blood pressure. All this and no more poison in your body. If you get yourself into a "rational mind" framework, you can make good decisions around all the other aspects of stress in your life. Just my opinion. I'm no doctor. I'm an addict.

I don't get what you mean by "because of my stress level".? Do you and/or your doctor think your levels of stress are special compared to everyone else and that nicotine will help? Keith this is addict talk and you need to start recognizing it sooner rather than later. Quitters on this site are going though all kinds of shit in their life and guess what? Nicotine doesn't help whether you get it in a dip or from a patch.

It's hard no doubt, and if you are 4 days in that's a great start but you need to adjust your thinking to make the quit stick.

You say you are four days chew free. Are you also four days nicotine free?

If you are, you have eliminated all the nicotine from your system. I would not recommend using NRT to anyone who is quitting because it drags out the Nicotine withdrawls. However in your case (assuming you are four days Nic free) would be a huge step backwards. You would be putting nicotine back in your system, after fighting so hard the first 4 days without it. Starting the patch now would be a huge mistake.

Obviously you will get some pretty passionate arguments for going cold turkey and the truth is that even if you use gum, lozenges, etc at some point you're going to go cold turkey too. The danger is that many people quit dipping and start with the nicotine replacement and never get off of it.

The NRT is a crutch that too many people rely on well after the time they should stop. I believe the recommendation on the box is some ridiculously long period of time like 6 weeks to taper off. That's just long enough to form a new 'habit' and transfer your addiction to an alternate source. If you stubbornly stick to the notion that NRT is the way to go for you then I'd seriously consider a very, very short time period. Like a day or two.

Then again how well has the 'taper off' method worked for you in the past? I'm willing to bet you've told yourself you're going to slow down this week and quit next week. Or some such words.

Have I come full circle yet? You know where I'm headed, right?

radar my plan was to go on nic lozenges to stop dipping...guess what I was on lozenges for over 5 years. Either way you are still delivering nicotine to your system and that is what you need to quit. I would highly recommend that you just quit nicotine completely. I'm on day 11 and it feels great to not be sending money to them crooks any more.

Cold turkey is more successful than all other tactics combined, according to research from XYZ Prestigious Institution.

Seriously though. Don't make it any harder than it has to be. The nic is what's after you. Don't keep feeding it to your brain. Dump the shit out and say no to the patch. Like Kayak said, get some seeds or gum if need be.

I found it beneficial to do NOTHING for the first few days. No gum, seeds, hell I even eliminated caffeine (nicotine slows the rate at which caffeine is absorbed, so you'll be more jacked than ever before now that you're quit).

Pretty much every guy on here will tell you no to the patch.

If anything it prolongs your quit, will make it harder to stop.

I say go cold turkey. Get some fake dips, sunflower seeds, whatever it is you need to keep a dip out of your lip.
