Hey my mouth hurt pretty bad for about a week after i quit, early on. It was healing. I was scared as hell that it was cancer. So far so good, i'm fine. Been to the dentist several times.

The more you read, the more you'll see pieces of what you go through here in people's intros. It's pretty amazing. Doesn't totally stop the fear/anxiety, whatever, but it does make you realize others go through stuff. I'd venture that someone could do a groundbreaking book on what sorts of things people go through when they quit chewing, based on what people log here. There's no other place where successful quitters lay it all out.

Hope the weekend goes well for you. Keep crushing the quit out strong!
Check in here with any problems or issues so others can help you out!

Thank you guys for the help and support! This is a great site and I will be posting here every day.
how'd it go for the weekend?
Not too bad man, just trying different things to help. Friends and the alternatives really help. Even gum!
Keep slugging away, learning what works for you. And keep building your quit, brick by brick. New contacts for support when you need it, new realizations, new craves defeated. You need it all. The more work you put into it, the stronger it will be and more likely to stick this time. You got this, just be sure you are committed to keep building, little by little.

Congrats on putting yourself out there and taking back the rest of your life! You really won't believe how amazing life is once you are free of the chains! It's hard as hell at first but thousands have done it using this site's methods-- jump in with both feet, don't hold back at all. This is your chance!

- Build a network here- for accountability and for support.
- Learn all you can about the addiction. The more you know, the easier it is to fight because you understand what is happening. And there are ways to see the hardest times as the biggest victories to celebrate!
- Use this intro as a place to log what you go through. You can look back later to see what you never want to go through again. A great deterrent to a cave. And, it helps others to see what you have gone through, just like reading other's intros will help you learn more about the many faces of this addiction.

Keep strong, but reach out for help when you need it. The network makes all the difference. Let me know via a PM here if I can help you in any way.

Check out "Grinds" for your oral fixation. They are ground coffee in pouches and are pretty good. I still use at times for my oral fix even after being quit now for over 800 days. I like the Carmel flavored ones myself, but they have numerous choices. I also think their pouches are the closest to the real thing. Anyway do what you have to so you can keep the cancer weed out of your mouth. One day at a time and one minute at a time if you need and it does get easier.........just remember you are an addict and as such any use will lead you back on the path of slavery.......

Sean here, started dipping right after basic back in 2009 continued intermittently after I got out up until a few weeks ago when I finally decided enough was enough and I didn't want to get mouth cancer. Already I feel my gums receding alarmingly, just hope I quit in time. Used about 2 cans per week at the most usually. For me triggers are usually watching a show, playing a game, reading a book, driving....there are a lot. The oral fixation is what usually gets me when I've tried to quit in the past, so I've been using SMC and then tried hooch a few days ago. The peppers in Hooch I think caused some problems though because my mouth's been super sore, so trying not to have anything in my mouth for today. Getting a bit difficult, especially since my co-worker dips too.
Sean--pumped to have you in the Platoon! Thanks for sharing a bit of your story.

Utilize all the tools on this site. So many great people, information, motivation, etc.. Be sure to get some digits from folks. A couple quick texts in the middle of a crave is a great way to get through it.

Make sure you post up first thing in the morning and keep your word for that day. Anything you have to do to keep that garbage out of your mouth for the day, and then make the same commitment the next day.

A quit is tough sledding. Obviously it is tough physically at first (drink. so. much. water.) but it becomes very much a mental game. That is where this site really shines. Posting roll EVERY SINGLE MORNING will keep you focused and committed.

Proud to quit with you today Sean. PM me for my number anytime.

-Josh

Congrats bro on the quit. Hook up with your group and start quitting.
X-change some #'s for the times when you need it most, it will help.
The feeling in the mouth will go away, if not and your worried, make that dreaded dental appointment.
I quit with YOU today.
2 Timothy 1:7 - For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Welcome SeanO and Congratulations on your decision.
Stay vigilant in your quit and stay active.
There are a lot of temptations out there so always be ready and come up with a game plan; if my co-worker puts in a chew in front of me  I put in a piece of gum. If he offers me a chew I tell hell no and that your are quit! put in a Altoids!
Anyways, proud to quit with you
