Hey yall, just joined up today and quit last night, so I thought I'd introduce myself and say hey.

I'm 29 and from good ole West Virginia. With the exception of about six months, I've been dippin every day since my sophomore year of high school.
And I'm not, no not isn't the right word. I wasn't just addicted to dip, I loved i.

I had my after breakfast, after lunch and after dinner dips (ABD, ALD and ADD), the lengthy drive dip, the short drive dip, the I'm at work and it ticks off the smokers because I can and they can't dip dip and the run of the mill, just for the heck of it dip.

What started with Skoal Cherry at a football bonfire and hiding it form my parents turned into copenhagen only, and then, whatever was cheapest at the time. For the most part, my vice consists of red seal long or fine cut, whichever is in stock.

My wife, god bless her, as put up with my habit from the start, but you can tell its starting to wear on her. Plus I have a beautiful baby girl that I want to be around for when she gets older.

But what finally got me to quit was my wife sending me a text mesage while I was at work, basically detailing she couldn't believe she married someone so disgusting ... I earned it, I spit in the shower and forget to drain properly.

And I got to thinking, she was right. Not only is this disgustin to those on the outside looking in, but it's killing my health, not to mention I'm sure it aint helping the old breath department. Plus the damage it does to the wallet.

So I quit, and didn't roll call Friday morning because I came to the site later in the day, but best bet, tomorrow I will.

Hope I can help yall as much as this site has already helped me.

I have just read someone else writing exactly my former dipping life! Here's one for you, the "I'll take the long way home just so I can enjoy my dip longer" dip. That was one of my favorites......not only was I wasting money on dip but I was burning fuel like I had a damn oil field in the backyard.

Glad you have made the commitment to quit. I made the call after my son's second birthday. I watched him open his gifts and tool around the yard on the new Deere Tractor that we got him and thought to myself, "I really want to see him grow up". I toseed my can and that was it.

The days that followed were a blur....I drive a lot to cover my region. There were days I would end up in Indianapolis and not remember getting there.

The days will get better.....I am now 22 days in and I feel like a new person. There are pitfalls along the way but simply coming to this site has curbed my cravings considerably!

If you ever need anything, you know where to find me! I look forward to celebrating 100 days with you in August.

Stay Quit!

First...cool name.

Second....remember how much these beginning days suck. It will help you stay quit when things get easier. And they will get easier. We promise. It only gets worse if you shovel that shit back in your mouth.

Third....Weekends bring new triggers. Remember that your quit is sacred. Your word on here is sacred. I don't care if you have chain yourself to the couch and avoid everyone and everthing in order to stay focused on quitting. If you have to do that then you better do it. We are talking about your life. You are literally saving your life.

Fourth....Post up whatever crazy shit comes to mind. Sad, post about it. Happy, post about it. Confused...post about it. Your quit group is going through the same things you are. Your post today might spark the conversation that helps someone in your group stay quit tomorrow. This is one of the ways we help each other.

Fifth...WELCOME ABOARD. YOU'VE MADE AN EXCELLENT DECISION.

Thanks fellas. I appreciate it.

Let me just tell you, I sat down at work tonight, about oh, 14 hours free, and I couldn't concentrate. I had that buzzed, dizzy feeling I'm sure everyone else has had. I don't remember that from when I quit before, I could barely function. But it's better than dying early, time to man up.
I member that shit. Here is what I did. I considered myself compeletly useless both at home and at work for the first week. I did not have any expectations of accomplishing anything except my quit. It worked for me.

You can do this. it will get better soon.

Great to have you GTB5. I'm in my 30's and my wife pretty much never said a word about it, unless I sneezed dip on the windshield, or spotted the sheets (or my shirts, or the couch, or the rug...).

I am 13 days into my quit and this site is a big part of that - read-up on the "what to expect" thread, and browse the other treads for some insight into some of the withdrawal fun we have to experience.

First 72 hours are key because you will be detoxifying - get through it, and it gets better.

I didn't even know I didn't feel good, until I kicked the can. Now I feel better than I remember ever feeling.

This shit is not getting the next 15 years of my life!
Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. -
