This is my first real attempt to quit after a long 10+ years dipping. Started when I got into sales after occasional dip on golf course and fishing with buddies once I got on the road it helped pass the time. Led me to the last 6 months where I was a tin a day Grizzly WinterGreen habit. Sneaking around for long trips to "get gas" or pick up 2 things from grocery store so my wife wouldn't know. OF course she did.
I am the proud father of 3 amazing, insane kids. I have a beautiful, incredible wife of 11 years and other than dip live damn healthy. I am former college football player who eats paleo, trains on corssfit and for triathlons. I still play hockey and occasional other sports. I am too damn lucky and smart to waste life and money with dip. I konw I am an addict, I know it will be a fight every day. The first couple have been good but tough. Everytime I step into my car I want to reach for the center console and pack a mouthpiece and just release. I have many othe rways I know to do that. I have stress we all do but the worry of losing my life to cancer that I have seen touch my mother and father and take my mother in law is a risk I cannot take. I have a live to live and want to be healthy and arond for a long time to try and help my fmaily.
I was pumped to find place like this that I hope can help me on my journey. I have no idea what is in store and surely it will get draker before it gets light but I am in this to win. I only know how to win and I wont lose this battle. ITs too damn important.
I can tell you what's in store, but I can't do it as well as Mr. T can:
What's your prediction for tonight's fight? These first few days suck and they suck hard core. Your body is physically addicted to nicotine and it will be in withdrawals for the next 3-7 days. You can hurry that process along by drinking tons of water and exercising. You need to get the poison out of your system before you begin healing. (Also, limit your caffeine right now. You'll be jittery enough already and it's quite potent at this stage in your quit.)
After this initial period, your body is "free"...but your brain is not. Nicotine makes your brain think that every action, thought, emotion, and EVERYTHING begins and ends with nicotine. Luckily, you just have to do tasks a few times before you break this "train of thought".
Now, one of the best things that we do here is that we don't worry about what to do to stay quit on day 30/300/3000. Let's focus on today.
(1) Post roll. That is your promise to stay quit today. You make that for yourself, but we have your back in this battle. We can help. When you're strong, you can help too. When you're weak, lean.
(2) Make some friends. It's easier to brandish a weapon if you know how to use it. Don't try to figure out roll while craving or try to get numbers or even just stack up on basic supplies like seeds, gums, and herbal snuffs. Be proactive.
(3) Keep your word man. You can do this because we are.
You got any questions? We're here. Welcome to the asylum.
