JD and Del,
I remember Day 2. I actually didn't find this site until Day 9, but I still recall Day 2. My advice - don't think about Day 3, next week, next month, next year, etc. Those kind of thoughts always overwhelmed me. I couldn't imagine "quitting forever." It sounded impossible.
What I have learned is that quitting forever is impossible. It is. But good news... nobody is asking you to do that. Just focus on right now, today, this five minutes. Resolve to yourself that come hell or high water you will not put any nicotine in your body today. Then tomorrow, simply do it again. But don't think about tomorrow now. There is nothing you can do about tomorrow until it gets here.
Here's the deal. You can't change the past...what's done is done. And nobody knows what the future...whatever will be, will be. Not a damn thing we can do about either of those. So don't worry about them. Tomorrow is something we'll deal with when it gets here. BUT IT AIN'T HERE NOW, SO FORGET IT.
Just focus on what you can control...and you can control your actions right now. Nothing in the world can force you to put tobacco in your lip. You can control that right now. See? Chop the problem down to a manageable size and you begin to see that you can do it!!! Like asking how to eat an elephant - one bite at a time. Well, we quit one day at a time.
How you get through today is up to you. And this site is full of good ideas...exercise, water, seeds, fake stuff, sex, etc. The list goes on forever, really. And any nicotine-free alternative is a good one...so let you imagination run wild. But whatever you do, remember that we're quit with you today.
