Wow, it seems we have had a similar life of cope, I too hadn't been more than 12 hours quit (maybe even less) over a 26 year span. Today is day 72 quit for me and beyond that, I can't say but I do know I'm quit right now. The support and drive on this site is like no other.....

Welcome to the site and your quit.....contact me if I can ever be of help.

Mike

Not for even a second. You're just addicted. Now, you need to be an addict, but a QUIT addict.

I hope you stay the course, brother.

SAA, you've come to the right place. Best decision you will ever make. I dumped a 30+ year cope and/or smoke habit using this website. I am 273 days quit, the most I have gone in may years. This site is your lifeline. USE it daily, get active with your quit group, get in chat if you have questions or need to fight off craves. Also make sure you have numbers and use them if you are in danger of caving. If i can dot this so can you. My number is available for the asking. Hang on for the ride.

SAA's Intro

I'm 50 years old and I have chewed Copenhagen since I was al least 18. I went to a can a day pretty quick and have been there ever since. I have tried to quit many time with gum or patches. My wife, kids and family have always known I chew, but I have worked in offices for 25 years and most people didn't know I chewed. It is amazing how much effort goes into hiding chewing at work.

This has been a big year for me. About 8 months ago my brother had cancer of the esophagus. He was 43. They took out his whole esophagus and a third of his stomach. He lives on my property and I went through the whole thing with him. It was an 8 hour surgery, didnÂ’t faze me, I just kept on chewing.

About 6 months ago my wife starts nagging me about a mole on my back and I just ignore her, that stuff doesnÂ’t happen to me. She makes an appointment for me with a dermatologist anyway. I end up having stage one melanoma. They take it off, leaving about a 4 inch scar on my back. DidnÂ’t faze me, I just kept on chewing.

About 2 months I went to get a physical because I turned 50. Part of that was a colonoscopy, I had some pre-cancerous biopsies. DidnÂ’t faze me, I just kept on chewing.

From reading the 3 paragraphs above you would think I am a pretty stupid guy. I donÂ’t really think so, IÂ’ve been pretty successful in business, socially and I am a deacon at my church. What is really shown is how addictive tobacco is. IÂ’ve always known it could/was killing me, but I had a chew in if I wasnÂ’t eating or sleeping.

Memorial Day weekend I ran out of chew. It was about 10 miles to town to get some more. I just decided to quit instead. I had some outdated patches from previous attempts and I put one on. It was a pretty unspectacular way to quit really. When I went back to work on Tuesday I went online to look for something to help and found KTC. I read some, dumped the stupid patches and have been posting roll and nicotine free since. This is the longest time I have ever been off nicotine.

The whole accountability thing is pretty amazing. You are being accountable to people who actually know how it feels and are willing to help. I quit telling my wife and family when I was trying to quit. I hated failing and it seemed they just wanted me to quit quitting just so I wasnÂ’t such a jerk. Here they get on people and let them have it. They donÂ’t let you give in to weakness.

IÂ’m glad to be quit with all you September 2009 people. Stay quit and post roll everyday. How about putting something here in the introductions so we are more that just names to each other.
